Scaling for USM is always challenging for any product unless it is purpose-built or overbuilt at the front end. They will use Palo Alto and its competitors, and LevelBlue will manage that implementation. The main area where the AlienVault product was lacking around the 2018 timeframe was in its ability to scale. By pushing it to a cloud-based system, they've largely alleviated scale issues. It's native in Amazon but will also run in Azure. They have worked with cloud service providers to offer enough throughput at a cost reasonable for a corporation. Scaling was their biggest problem, and they've largely conquered those issues.

Improved threat detection has provided clear user risk insights and streamlined incident response
Exabeam's UEBA is the most valuable feature that I have found so far. Exabeam's UEBA displays the type of description that it could show in a console regarding one particular user, the rating that it shows, and how vulnerable the user is, which is very good. Exabeam's automation for incident response is very good. The machine learning capabilities of Exabeam are also good.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Its user-friendliness is the most valuable. It is very easy to use and explore. The dashboard is very well packaged and integrated. You don't have to spend a lot of time in configuring it and checking out the RPM etc. It is also free and very powerful."
"The tool's security detection is good. It helps us with login tracking and generating reports. We aim to identify potential issues, such as brute-force attacks on user accounts or server-level anomalies. For instance, if I receive a report indicating a server is at an abnormal level, I investigate and address the issue."
"The solution has a very good open source community, and whenever we have problems, we are always able to resolve it online."
"The product is majorly used for threat detection of the agents on servers and endpoints."
"Network traffic analysis is highly efficient."
"AlienVault OSSIM's GUI is very user-friendly."
"OSSIM is the only solution that includes the large number of modules that we need: a vulnerability scanner, a network IDS system, a host IDS system."
"You can customize the dashboards as well as the reporting."
"Exabeam's UEBA displays the type of description that it could show in a console regarding one particular user, the rating that it shows, and how vulnerable the user is, which is very good."
"The Exabeam SIEM has a user friendly UI interface."
"Exabeam has improved our organization by speeding up the investigation process."
"It is user-friendly and quite simple to use."
"The platform is not extremely expensive compared to its direct competitors; I would rate its pricing around six out of ten."
"Timeline based analysis; good platform support"
"The most valuable feature of Exabeam is the timeline creation based on log sources, which helps in security investigations."
"The solution's initial setup process is easy."

Cons

"AlienVault OSSIM failed to provide our company a full insight, while also giving out a lot of false positives."
"I suggest more in-built rules based on modern threats and environments to make it a more competitive solution."
"AlienVault OSSIM on-premise version is more difficult to implement than the cloud version. Additionally, they should add integration between several different environments at once and improve their online knowledge base."
"AlienVault OSSIM is costly."
"The documentation could be improved."
"I would like the solution to be able to integrate with my firewall, my IDS and my Honeypot solutions so that it can provide real-time reporting as things occur and then have alert sent to me on my phone when suspicious activity is happening."
"The solution needs more integration with cyber intelligence systems."
"The user interface needs to be friendlier across the board."
"Exabeam needs to improve its adaptive nature towards rules and its capability to understand the entire client environment faster."
"Exabeam's reporting dashboard could have included a filtering option to filter by the most recent detection."
"The solution's reporting and dashboarding could be improved."
"Exabeam's integration capabilities are not good, as Exabeam has a very limited number of integrations and no out-of-box integration, which is an area where Exabeam should improve."
"Adding to the number of certifications that they have, for example, ISO 27001, would be helpful."
"We still have questions surrounding hardware deployment."
"We use the on-prem Exabeam product and face limitations using the web UI and administration of custom models and rules."
"The customer service and support are not satisfactory."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The tool's licensing costs are yearly."
"I used the paid version of the tool and found it to be expensive. It has been a while since I changed to Securonix. I will have to check whether AlienVault charges per device, user, or log."
"AlienVault OSSIM is expensive compared to its competitors."
"The solution is open source, so it's free to use."
"We are using the community version, which can be used for free."
"OSSIM is open source, and USM is the paid license. So, if you want, you can switch to USM. There you will have to buy a license, and they have a support team that helps you out on issues you face."
"The licensing fees for the non-community edition are paid on an annual basis, and there are no costs in addition to this."
"OSSIM is free."
"They have a great model for pricing that can be based either on user count or gigabits per day."
"The solution is expensive."
"The platform is not extremely expensive compared to its direct competitors; I would rate its pricing around six out of ten."
"Exabeam Fusion SIEM's pricing is reasonable."

"Exabeam is not a cheap solution."
