Ensures team collaboration with strong version control but could improve testing capabilities
Version control is the most basic feature in TFS. It has been there since the beginning. We use it primarily for that purpose. Basically ensuring that the code is not overwritten by other team members and maintaining the sanctity of the code. Bringing order to a disparate team which is virtual at different locations is very important, and TFS provides that control. Once you update a code, nobody can modify it until you are done working on it and check in. It is a great product that revolutionized the way teams work together on Microsoft pieces of code. The versioning part has unique features and capabilities which are unmatched with other products out there.

Integration with tool streamlines test management but needs better exporting options
I use it for test management within Jira This tool boasts an incredibly user-friendly interface that integrates seamlessly with other Jira tools. I particularly appreciate its intuitive features for designing test plans, creating test cases, and executing test cycles. Some areas for improvement,…

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"If you want to secure your code, TFS is a good choice, as it can do it easily."
"From the project management perspective, the tool is efficiently managing teams by giving management information, such as reports, graphs, velocity, capacity, etc."
"I like its MTM (Microsoft Test Manager) section which gives us options to create various test plans and add test cases into it."
"If you are on MS stack, I can only recommend TFS since it’s much more than just a source code repository."
"The scrum template to manage our development process, as well as the continuous build and release functionality."
"TFS allows me to handle automated builds and release management quite easily."
"TFS is more useful, organized and user-friendly."
"With TFS we can manage the whole application lifecycle with a single product, and it is visible for all the team members."
"Now, we are getting consolidated reports in one place, we have all our metrics and repository together, and this is helpful."
"We use the solution for test case management."
"It has integration with test automation tools."
"Zephyr Enterprise is a stable solution."
"At this moment, it is fulfilling our requirements."
"It has a very intuitive user experience."
"The solution does its job well."
"Zephyr really improves the testing of the product on many levels - planning, test case creation, automation goals, test reporting, and verification of the testing."

Cons

"In the next release, I would like them to include integration for various projects, similar to what JIRA has, and they could create this feature on the dashboard."
"I would like to see the reporting features expanded so that I can see details on the users connected to all of the projects."
"There are better tools for Agile and CI/CD in the market."
"Build definition management - there needs to be change control for build definitions"
"If TFS was completely free (not limited to five members for online), I would suggest using it, but the price for extra members is too expensive in my opinion and is worth it only if you are using Visual Studio, otherwise other solutions can do basically the same (talking only about source control)."
"The program and portfolio planning facility can be improved."
"Basic, manual testing should not be only available at the most expensive pricing level."
"The price could be cheaper."
"Security needs improvement to protect customer information better."
"The reporting, and the ability to reorganize the test repository, which are a little stifling. There is definitely room for improvement there."
"We are looking for advanced support with integration to CI tools. This is something which Zephyr does not have today."
"Creating better default varieties of reporting would make the product much better and more popular."
"The reporting, and the ability to reorganize the test repository, which are a little stifling. There is definitely room for improvement there."
"The solution is not really stable. Sometimes in the past, some pages wouldn't load due to issues."
"We faced some errors while uploading the test cases."
"We have a lot of automation for our products, and we require a utility for its integration with automation. Currently, we have to write this utility ourselves. It would be great if they can provide such a utility."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The price of the solution is cheaper than other competitors and it is a per-user license."
"I would like to see TFS improve its web interface as there are some limitations with IDs and the integration behind it and with open source tools like VS Code."
"The overall price of TFS is good."
"I am not in a position to comment on the licensing terms, as we are talking about an enterprise arrangement."
"There is a yearly licensing fee that needs to be paid."
"We are using the open-source version."
"It is an expensive solution."
"There are different prices depending on the configurations. There is a free version available. There is no extra cost for the solution. However, the hardware could be something that needs to be considered."
"It costs a couple of thousand dollars for a little more than 125 users, per month."
"DFS is more expensive than Zephyr. DFS is around $32 per person, whereas Zephyr is $10 per person. There is a major difference in the price, which is the main reason why we are trying to shift to Zephyr."
