Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Work item management integration with source control."
"This tool provides a complete solution for ALM."
"TFS sits at the core of our entire software delivery strategy."
"We use it as our primary on-premise source control for both Git and TFVC allowing the flexibility for different delivery team to use different source control that best suits them."
"What I like the most is that you can set permissions on just one folder."
"For what I need TFS for, I have never run into any limitation."
"This solution enables us to link all items usefully, in the way we use Agile."
"Test Management is immature for an application lifecycle management tool and it might take a couple more releases and pricing/functionality restructuring."
"It has many features, but the main things that we need are the test cycles and integration with automation because we have automation for the web and mobile applications. We use it for test case management to run the test cases and get the results. At this moment, it is fulfilling our requirements. We are able to get the test execution report and the test pass and fail report. This summary is delivered to our management."
"It has a very intuitive user experience."
"Zephyr really improves the testing of the product on many levels - planning, test case creation, automation goals, test reporting, and verification of the testing."
"Zephyr Enterprise is a stable solution."
"We use the solution for test case management."
"Now, we are getting consolidated reports in one place, we have all our metrics and repository together, and this is helpful."
"The solution does its job well."
"It has integration with test automation tools."

Cons

"The product needs to stay competitive with its peers like Github, and the adoption of other markup language renderings in the code section of TFS."
"I'd like to see some kind of visualization tool for TFS that would make life much easier."
"Automatic tests may need some improvements."
"I only use 1% of the functionality, so I am not familiar enough to know what needs to be improved."
"For VSTS, more flexibility around the customisation of test reports."
"The current dashboard has limited report charts, we need more in reporting as charts are not enough to represent the project full stat."
"The solution is stable but could improve."
"TFS and MTM have their own style of working and they are different from other tools like Jira or TestRail, which are simpler and easy to use."
"Security needs improvement to protect customer information better."
"We faced some errors while uploading the test cases."
"We would like support for the agile and behavior-driven development (BDD) approaches."
"Zephyr Enterprise needs to redesign the reporting."
"We are looking for advanced support with integration to CI tools. This is something which Zephyr does not have today."
"We have a lot of automation for our products, and we require a utility for its integration with automation. Currently, we have to write this utility ourselves. It would be great if they can provide such a utility."
"The only thing I have missed is an easy way to configure showing the latest execution results of all test cases linked in JIRA (story/epic), thus, receiving the state of a feature."
"Additionally, they could improve the daily reporting. It does generate reports, but they are screen based reports."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The price of the solution is cheaper than other competitors and it is a per-user license."
"We pay subscription fees on a yearly basis and the price is reasonable."
"The tool's licensing costs are yearly."
"You will need to obtain server and account licenses."
"It is pretty expensive compared to other project management tools."
"I believe we pay on a yearly basis. I don't know the current costs of them. We outsource all that to a third party. Each of the developers gets a Microsoft Visual Studio Azure DevOps license, which gives them access to the TFS server as well. We probably pay on average about 1,800 Canadian Dollars a year for every developer, but that covers a lot more than just TFS."
"I would like to see TFS improve its web interface as there are some limitations with IDs and the integration behind it and with open source tools like VS Code."
"We pay for the license yearly."
"It costs a couple of thousand dollars for a little more than 125 users, per month."
"DFS is more expensive than Zephyr. DFS is around $32 per person, whereas Zephyr is $10 per person. There is a major difference in the price, which is the main reason why we are trying to shift to Zephyr."
