I work with BMC TrueSight and have been using it for eight-plus years BMC TrueSight brought a positive impact and benefits to our organization. The customization part is one of the advantages of the product, along with the monitoring capabilities. Automated root cause analysis and predictive…

Proactive monitoring has improved user experience and reduces downtime through early issue detection
The best features Catchpoint offers are synthetic monitoring, real user monitoring, network and cloud performance monitoring, root cause analysis, and alerting. Synthetic monitoring and root cause analysis have helped my team by allowing root cause monitoring to help us understand where the threat is coming from, enabling us to catch the threat before it impacts our users. It helps us detect and resolve issues before they impact users through root cause analysis and alerting. Catchpoint has positively impacted my organization because it has been a great tool due to reduced downtime and faster incident resolution, improved user experience and retention, and cost saving through performance optimization. Regarding cost savings or performance optimization, it has reduced downtime by 55%, and there is a cost saving of about 40%.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"We're using native monitoring capabilities for all our server hardware, for visibility for applications, for URLs, for webpage response and accuracy, and for monitoring network throughput in a lot of particular instances. We're using lightweight protocols for pinging, for DNS, for LDAP."
"The initial setup of BMC TrueSight Operations Management was easy."
"I like the deep-dive detail and end-user metrics data. The synthetic monitor is the best one. The best point of the new one is that there's no need for configuration. You can inject the Java script and start to change major developments in the application. This is a good approach, and we received all the data using this."
"The most valuable features of the solution are alert management, alert generation, and event management."
"It is a very stable product."
"It is a stable solution."
"The most beneficial part of the product in terms of IT monitoring revolves around the areas involving automation, and it also serves as an end-to-end event management and incident management tool."
"It is a scalable solution."
"Catchpoint has positively impacted my organization because it has been a great tool due to reduced downtime and faster incident resolution, improved user experience and retention, and cost saving through performance optimization."
"Catchpoint is a great tool in synthetic monitoring, addressing a critical piece of monitoring by providing detailed information on failures and exceptions so teams can focus on resolution instead of making sense of tons of alerts and then addressing the core issue."
"Catchpoint is very flexible and also provides logs for troubleshooting purposes. It helps us fix issues within the SLAs signed with the end users. The tool is easy to learn."
"Catchpoint's customer service and support are valuable."
"The product's most valuable feature is the ability to identify and troubleshoot network issues."
"During business hours, it has worked absolutely fine without any issues."
"The drill-down feature of this product was very good. It allowed us to identify the exact page or area of the site that was causing our customers an issue."
"Catchpoint provides a great amount of information."

Cons

"More modules for less popular applications and better documentation."
"The product must provide more AI capabilities."
"The UI for the end users could be improved and more flexible than it is now."
"The solution should improve predicting events and flaws in service. It also needs to improve integration with other systems."
"It's too complex, too many servers are required, there are too many different components in the solution, and a lot of agents are required."
"The pricing could be better."
"The graphs are extremely limited. We don't have a lot of dashboard options. To make reports and dashboards more useful, we usually need to integrate some dashboard solutions."
"It would be better if the initial setup and deployment were more straightforward."
"The old user version was better, it was more user-friendly."
"As part of the improvement, there are certain categories, like for the China market, where we face issues."
"There's still too much manual involvement in getting customized test configurations out there. It's good, but it still takes a lot of effort. In other words, it's when you need to configure it to collect a specific variable and that kind of thing."
"We would like the script creation feature of this solution to be improved, as it currently requires a complicated manual process to update the scripts."
"A room for improvement in Catchpoint is that it lacks an automated page updating feature. My company receives all the alerts and notifications it needs, but the page doesn't update automatically. You need to manually refresh the page, so every five minutes you need to refresh it to see the most updated information. If there's an automated page refresh feature, that would help my company. It's a feature that Grafana has. The page auto-refreshes in Grafana, so you don't have to manually refresh the page. If that feature is implemented in Catchpoint, it'll be useful for the users. Another area for improvement in the tool is you have to do a manual task, for example, when you have a notification for a market, you get a zip code that the user could have entered, but if the zip code is incorrect, you have to manually go into Catchpoint and update that parameter, so that manual step is another area in the tool that needs improvement."
"As part of the improvement, there are certain categories, like for the China market, where we face issues."
"Catchpoint can be improved by focusing solely on network monitoring."
"There are essentially a lot of quotas. Nobody wants to sit and manually create monitors for someone who uses synthetic monitoring."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"They have changed the licensing fees."
"We're end-of-lifeing it now. Overall, the licensing costs of BMC are a challenge for us in that they're hard costs, whereas open-source monitoring has soft costs, where it's harder to line-item."
"Other products are more expensive than BMC TrueSight."
"We did a five-year, multimillion dollar deal."
"The cost depends on the usage."
"Though I have no clue about the tool's actual price, I know that it is astronomical."
"We pay license fees of between $150 and $200 per asset. There is an enterprise software license fee, and then you pay a percentage for your maintenance, and then Premier Support. For example, if you buy a two-year license for the product, then the maintenance fee is added to that for two years at X percent a year. Then there's a small fee on top of that for Premier Support..."
"It is a relatively inexpensive solution."
"The pricing is based on consumption and works on a point scale. For example, let's say I want to look at www.google.com, and I'm going to test it to see if it's there. It will bring back all this data that tells me how long it took to connect and how long it took to get the first byte. It will list all the resources on the page, showing that they all work and there are no broken links. It brings that data back. That test has an assigned point value depending on what you decide to extract from that test. If all I do is check to see whether it's available, it might be one point. I don't know the exact point values off-hand. This is just an example."
"In terms of licensing fees, I believe they were slightly higher."
"The price and licensing are very, very high. They have to come down on the pricing to match with the industry standard."
"The solution's pricing varies based on services and licensing models."
"The solution's pricing is comparable to the last tool we were using."
