It's a strong product that's easy to manage and costs significantly less than competing solutions
Setting up FortiSwitch is pretty straightforward. The complex part is correctly configuring FortiGate. You might want to get a professional to help you or a partner. After that, deploying the switching and the wireless access layer is rinse and repeat. Customers can do that once they have the methodology. The deployment time depends on the number of campuses or remote sites. A $500,000 contract would probably involve 10 to 15 days of service. The customer can deploy parts of it. You have someone like us come in to deploy FortiGate and the core switching and do the rest on your own.

Greatly simplifies troubleshooting; remote access to the router is a huge time saver
Our primary use case is for internal network distribution and for supplying voiceover IP. It depends on customer requirements but usually it's easier to set up voiceover IP, ePoE from the switch. The routers, such as XWR-3150, can support two different location access points, which is very…

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The software is very stable."
"Fortinet FortiSwitch - Secure Access has essential features for managing switches."
"Ability to manage FortiAP, FortiClient, and FortiGate all from a single console"
"The most valuable feature is that I can completely isolate devices that are compromising the network."
"Integration is good, as well as price and technical support."
"I like that everything flows back to FortiGate, which is the controller, management console, and firewall. There's one central point for the entire network, so the security, switching, wireless, etc., flows back to the FortiGate. The ease of management is what customers like. They don't need separate solutions like Cisco."
"It is easy to set up."
"The product is a total solution with the FortiGate, switch, and access point. It is integrated with FortiGate, allowing us to manage all the equipment through it. You can handle everything from a single point."
"The solution is less expensive than other options."
"Remote access to the router is a huge time saver."
"The ePoE+ is great."

Cons

"The product must improve its prices."
"It would be easier if Fortinet FortiSwitch - Secure Access could be managed via cloud, and this is something that could be improved in this product. Bandwidth display could also be better."
"It would also help if they lowered the cost of their service."
"Fortinet FortiSwitch - Secure Access is confusing with too many add-ons."
"The initial setup is pretty easy; we have built a knowledge base. But there's a learning curve for beginners."
"I'd like to see more integration with different platforms."
"The product's pricing needs improvement for small and medium businesses."
"While Fortinet is good for school boards and mid-sized businesses, enterprise-class networks require a zero-trust solution. If you're building a zero-trust network with end-to-end security, that's where Fortinet falls behind Cisco, HPE, and Aruba."
"The documentation could be improved; it's quite basic."
"Documentation and access to it could be greatly improved."
"You do need to be an IT person in order to handle the initial setup. An AV person would struggle a bit."

"It's affordable and there are no additional costs, just regular support, and license fees."
