Good quality and pricing with the capabilities to optimize as needed
Pros and Cons
  • "The quality of the solution is good."
  • "The solution should improve the recovery aspects that it has on offer."

What is our primary use case?

We have multiple teams in our organization that use the solution.

What is most valuable?

There are plenty of services from the database. There are many features that are valuable.

Scalability and agility are good.

The pricing is okay.

The quality of the solution is good.

The solution delivers well on optimization.

In terms of customization, it's quite good and can work with any other cloud platforms.

What needs improvement?

I don't have a deep knowledge of the solution and its compatibility, so I don't know if I can speak to what might be lacking.

Scalability and agility could be improved slightly, even though we find them good right now.

The solution should improve the recovery aspects that it has on offer.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using the solution for two to three years now.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We also use Azure.

How was the initial setup?

Since my role is restricted to security protocols, I don't have too much information on the deployment and implementation of this solution.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The solution is very cost-effective.

What other advice do I have?

My role and responsibility is to check the services of the security platform in question to see if it fits the requirements. For example, there are members of our team who are looking to leverage some services from the public cloud, I just look at their business requirements and see what services they want to leverage on a solution.

Physically if there is something that is lacking in security that I can foresee, I explain the best practices to follow to enable additional security controls. This may be making stronger authentications, authorizations, or having stronger data security and encryption.

I'd rate the solution nine out of ten.

Depending on an organization's requirements and budgets, cloud services would be recommended. A user must just decide what they need and stick to one thing.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Public Cloud

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

Amazon Web Services (AWS)

Poor technical support and problems with GDPR compliance
Pros and Cons
  • "AWS CloudSearch's best features are good performance under high CPU and memory use, and ease of deployment and scaling."
  • "AWS CloudSearch's documentation isn't very clear. Also, the on-premise version of the solution is less stable than the cloud version."

What is our primary use case?

I mainly use AWS CloudSearch for cluster-based AWS, EC2 services, cloud-front services, and Amazon Kubernetes services.

What is most valuable?

AWS CloudSearch's best features are good performance under high CPU and memory use, and ease of deployment and scaling.

What needs improvement?

AWS CloudSearch's documentation isn't very clear. Also, the on-premise version of the solution is less stable than the cloud version. In the next release, I'd like AWS CloudSearch to include a Python-based library improvement to communicate with other services and support for more languages.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using AWS CloudSearch for about two years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The cloud version of AWS CloudSearch is the most stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

AWS CloudSearch is easy to scale.

How are customer service and support?

Amazon's technical support needs to improve as they only solve about half our problems.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Negative

How was the initial setup?

AWS CloudSearch is easy to deploy.

What about the implementation team?

We used an in-house team.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Our license costs around $4,000 per month.

What other advice do I have?

We're switching to Microsoft Azure because customers in Europe prefer it due to their GDPR laws. I would rate AWS CloudSearch three out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Private Cloud

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

Microsoft Azure

Text-based search API and geospatial searches are valuable but index cleanup can be painful
Pros and Cons
  • "Document indexing, text-based search API, and Geospatial searches are all good features."
  • "Latlon data type only supports single value per document. All other types support multiple values. We faced issues with this because we had scenarios where, for each document, we needed to store multiple latlon values for different geographical locations."
  • "Index cleanup is sometimes painful. No easy way to clean indexes or a bulk of documents. Full indexing or regeneration of entire indexes sometimes gets stuck. In one instance, we had to delete the entire index and re-create it."

How has it helped my organization?

We were able to build the core search functionality using this product.

What is most valuable?

  • Document indexing
  • Text-based search API
  • Geospatial searches

What needs improvement?

Latlon data type only supports single value per document. All other types support multiple values. We faced issues with this because we had scenarios where, for each document, we needed to store multiple latlon values for different geographical locations.

For how long have I used the solution?

One to three years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

No issues with stability.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Index cleanup is sometimes painful. No easy way to clean indexes or a bulk of documents. Full indexing or regeneration of entire indexes sometimes gets stuck. In one instance, we had to delete the entire index and re-create it.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

This was the first implementation, we did not switch from any other product.

How was the initial setup?

No setup required, as it is on cloud.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I was not involved with pricing and licensing, I was only involved in implementation.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I would suggest looking at Elasticsearch. I am currently using it and I feel it is more flexible and easy to use.

Has the ability to scale your requirements on the fly and is easy to set up
Pros and Cons
  • "The best feature is its scalability in that Cloud is always on the fly."
  • "Security is a concern but they're working on it."

What is most valuable?

The best feature is its scalability in that Cloud is always on the fly. You can scale your requirements on the fly. Cloud also has other features but scalability comes first. This is one of the best features.

What needs improvement?

I think AWS is doing a good job. I don't think it needs much improvement. Security is a concern but they're working on it. I am not saying there is no security, but maybe they can bring in more controls.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using AWS CloudSearch for three months.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The stability of the product is good.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

As I mentioned, its scalability is its best feature.

We had a team of 15 - 20 people using it.

How are customer service and support?

In terms of support, it's good - it's a market leader. Most of the issues are documented, so you really don't need support except for out of the ordinary stuff.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is simple.

What other advice do I have?

I'd definitely recommend Amazon AWS CloudSearch. On a scale of one to ten I'd rate it an eight.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Public Cloud

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

Amazon Web Services (AWS)
