General Consul of Japan with self employed
Allows for remote access from home offices, but can't handle gigabyte speeds
Pros and Cons
- "The most valuable feature of this solution is they have IT consultants that know SonicWall."
- "The overall menu is not very user-friendly and it could be easier."
What is our primary use case?
The primary use case of this solution is to provide remote access from home offices.
The deployment model we are using is on-premises.
How has it helped my organization?
Secure remote access is now available from home offices.
What is most valuable?
The most valuable feature of this solution is they have IT consultants that know SonicWall.
What needs improvement?
This solution is very slow, and the competitors have much higher speeds.
We are now running at gigabyte-speed and SonicWall just can't handle it.
For a user, doing the setup alone is hopeless because the menu structure is not very clear and many of the features are hidden. They are very difficult to access.
The overall menu is not very user-friendly and it could be easier.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using this solution for four years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
This solution is stable but very slow.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The solution is scalable. So far, we have had no issues.
There are approximately eight users.
How are customer service and technical support?
We have very good IT consultants who provide technical support.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup was complex. You could not possibly do it yourself without an IT consultant.
What about the implementation team?
We had IT consultants help us with the implementation.
What other advice do I have?
We do not have a relationship with SonicWall, we are customers.
I would not recommend this solution without them speaking to an IT consultant. They have IT consultants, and it's recommended to use a consultant to handle it.
We are currently looking at other solutions because SonicWall just cannot compare and we feel that we need to increase the speed.
I would rate this solution a six out of ten.

Consultant at a tech services company with 501-1,000 employees
Integrates well, feature rich, and reliable
Pros and Cons
- "Secure Mobile Access (SMA) is easy to configure and the deployment is straightforward. However, this is mostly because of the AWS setup."
- "The solution has 2FA, it will generate a token and send it to an email, but multifactor authentication is not available. I would suggest that there should be MFA integration and provided with the appliance."
What is our primary use case?
Since the pandemic began, we have started using SonicWall to allow users to work from home.
What is most valuable?
We have found the most valuable features to be:
- Secure Mobile Access (SMA) is easy to configure and the deployment is straightforward. However, this is mostly because of the AWS setup
- Easy to use
- Simple to manage
- Integrated with NSa
What needs improvement?
The solution has 2FA, it will generate a token and send it to an email, but multifactor authentication is not available. I would suggest that there should be MFA integration and provided with the appliance.
I have to manage the SMA separately, there should be centralized management and reporting features.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using this solution within the last 12 months.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The solution is stable and very reliable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Since the solution is on the cloud the scalability should not be an issue.
We have approximately 200 people using this solution in my organization. We do not have more than 180 users connected at one time.
How are customer service and technical support?
The technical support was responsive.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup was easy.
What about the implementation team?
We had a team from SonicWall help us with the implementation of the solution.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
This solution is priced well and we currently have the maximum number of licenses allowed.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
We did evaluate other solutions before we chose this one.
What other advice do I have?
My advice to others is this solution is reliable, feature-rich, and reasonable-priced. If they want to have an SSL VPN solution, then SonicWall SMA is probably a good choice. It is has a two-factor authentication already in-built, and it will help you connect your mobile users without any issues. It has the capability of connecting all your devices, such as laptops, Linux systems, and MacBooks.
I rate SonicWall SMA an eight out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
Public Cloud
If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?
Amazon Web Services (AWS)

Stable with good technical support, but the management interfaces need to be consolidated
Pros and Cons

What is our primary use case?
We are a system integrator and SonicWall SMA is one of the products that we implement for our clients. They use it to protect their data.
What needs improvement?
We need to keep applying updates that are supplied from the OEM.
On the customer's side, we have a centralized system. There is software to manage their security appliance, as well as their network appliance, and they have some kind of endpoint security. The problem is that when combined with what the client already has, there are two different logins and two different management systems, and these should be consolidated into a single interface.
For how long have I used the solution?
We have been working with SonicWall SMA for 13 years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
This is a stable product.
How are customer service and technical support?

I have a team of four people who handle the implementation for our clients.
What other advice do I have?
This is definitely a product that I can recommend to others.
I would rate this solution a seven out of ten.

On-premises
