Tableau hands down. The bulk of analysts in HC are not data scientists nor IT types. They are indeed the under-served business user. I have been at this for 8 years and have written a 150 page document for a F-1000 corporation comparing Qlik-Tek and Tableau. The points…

Commented on Reporting Tools -- New Reviews Q2 2017
Folks - The primary Tableau audience remains the under-served business user. With all respect to Mr. Krishna, his comment is interesting but not representative of the WW user base. And it is hardly a shock to see that he cites calculated fields as a good feature given his…

Contributed a review of Tableau: Geo-encoding, shape content, cluster analysis, and cross-DB joins are helpful.

Answered a question: Tableau 10: Best New/Improved Features
Further to Jhornber's response - I have written and trained desktop users on versions 7.0 to and including 10.0. Companies with large implementations of Tableau do not jump at the first major release of anything. I could cite several corporations that have more than 500…

Answered a question: Tableau 10: Best New/Improved Features
Mr. Paredes: The use of the words methodology and discipline speak volumes if you truly understood the origins of Tableau Software. The whole premise was and is a tool for the under served business user. Further, the words business intelligence are a bit long in the tooth…

My practice is Tableau centric but I have to agree that there are no real scores of 10 in life for anything. The product has fit the client's needs hence we saw different cars made in this country and then..............................

Commented on Tableau in Gartner Magic Quadrant 2015 Report
In keeping standard protocol in/on forums similar to IT Central, it is a common practice to state up front that his or her firm is a Tableau Reseller/Integrator.

Answered a question: What's your experience or opinion about Spotfire vs. Tableau vs. Qlik?
This is not a trivial question for anyone to tackle openly and objectively
I would respond to the person requesting a free Gartner report on DV leaders with the following questions:
· Is your firm committed to selecting one of these vendors?
· Is…

Answered a question: I'm looking for real info about licensing, ease of setup and other costs involved. Can you help?
Self service Visual Intelligence left the station some time ago. Tableau became the standard years ago but more importantly since going public Tableau's investment into R&D as a % of revenues is always north of industry standards thus Tableau reinvests for the future…

Answered a question: Tableau vs. Spotfire - What do I need to know regarding pricing and usability?
Put price aside until you know
- who are the users?.......business types and if so, how many and
- what are they using today?..........you will be going through cultural adoption and the vendor that you pick has to make that change easy for everyone
- access to data -…

Answered a question: Tableau vs. Business Objects - Which is a better solution for visualization and analysis?
Business Objects now SAP and Tableau should not be in the same room together or compared to one annother.

Answered a question: How does reporting in QlikView compare to reporting in Tableau?
In short, the under-served business user can expect a shorter time to benefit with Tableau. If one needs only reporting I wonder if one needs either one. Data visualization and analysis is not about reporting per se

Commented on Microsoft BI vs. SAP Business Objects
Is the goal reporting or is it analysis? And if it is analysis is the tool in the hands of the business user? If time to benefit is important what are the implications of implementation? If the goal is to have actionable visual intelligence why consider providers of what…

Answered a question: Business users moving from Tableau to MS Report builder
Does the fact that MS wanted to buy Tableau Software tell us anything years ago? Respectfully, the move away from Tableau tells me more about the culture of the company. As for time to benefit, the success stories with business users are legion.

Commented on MicroStrategy vs. Tableau
Version 8.1 of Tableau added significant functionality at the server level. I stand by my earlier comments about the two vendors when a client is making a selection from just those two

Commented on MicroStrategy vs. Tableau
If Tableau and MicroStrategy are the last two standing in a vendor selection, the team performing the assessment created murky requirements at best. VI for MSTR was an added capability to the MSTR software suite as a defensive measure for those accounts that TSI had…

Commented on BIME vs. Tableau Comparison
This critique is a welcome addition to this forum. I have to really test drive BIME but a cursory review suggests that this reminds this writer of the early days of Tableau. BIME appears to have adopted much of the Few school of the best practices in DV. This venue is…
