John, it's free to download, free to run. Yes, you can pay for support. It even then the support is cheaper than what VMware charges for their support. So why not download it and run it?

I have also found that performance on Solaris is a major plus. Java just likes the OS :-)

About me
Erik Benner is a Enterprise Architect, focusing on solutions that meet the customer’s business needs. Erik has worked with Oracle and Sun systems since the late 90s and is experienced with most of the Engineered Systems from Oracle. His focus is on holistic designs combining database, middleware and virtualization technologies. Erik is a frequent speaker at Oracle events (OOW, COLLABORATE and local events). Erik is also actively engaged with the IOUG Solaris SIG and both the IOUG and OUAG OEM SIGs. When not working, Erik enjoys spending time with his family at their Observatory, where the telescopes outnumber the people.
