Commented on MapR-DB is a NoSQl datastore on top of MaprFS. The data can be updated and random data can be picked very fast.
There are issues with MapR-DB and HBase when it comes to full table scans and working with SQL languages.
The interesting thing is that in 6.0, they implement secondary indexing. This should improve performance when working with SQL languages.

About me
Michael has over 30 years in a myriad of roles within the IT Industry.
Currently Michael runs an independent consultancy specializing in the ‘Big Data’ space working with various clients and vendors trying to solve the hard problems. While not at a client engagement, Michael founded and runs the Chicago area Hadoop User Group (CHUG) with a motley crew from the local Chicago community.
When time permits Michael also speaks are various conferences on Big Data, including industry specific talks in the financial space.
Even as the underlying technology changes, Michael applies his experience from working on various projects from embedded systems, telephony, business systems and financial systems.
With a background that is both technical and in technical sales, Michael is capable of crossing the gap and explaining solutions to C-Level executives and business users.
