Helpful support, good UI, and provides excellent visibility
It's very good and very stable for businesses. It works very well. The UI is better than the alternatives. We like using Fortinet devices. They integrate well with one another. Fortinet provides good visibility and segmentation. Fortinet's devices are purpose-built to operate in various environments. It operates well across clouds. We can run Fortigate as an MSP. It helps with intrusion prevention specific to various environments. It provides us with details about the traffic for better monitoring. FortiGate has helped reduce the risk of cyberattacks that might disrupt our client's production. The product provides policies for strict monitoring to make the network secure. If something hits against a policy, it will be blocked.

Prompt support and offers an excellent set of features but needs better stability
We are facing some session problems when we are using it in the DC core. Its behavior is abrupt. Sometimes it's working great and sometimes, the session gets stuck, and it would not kill automatically. You need to restart or reset the firewall, and it'll work for over one or two months. Then it happens again, the session problems. There's something wrong with that version, maybe. That happens only with the EMC query. The user interface could be more user-friendly. We need to dig down some major features like SSL VPN and IPsec VPN. We need to dig into the features and then the sub interfaces to configure it for our environment. We do see many false positives. Security features are not up to the mark for the enterprise level as yet.

Easy to deploy, simple to maintain, and has great visibility
In Italy, small and medium-sized enterprises are prevalent, with fewer than 20 devices being used in most companies. As a result, we typically use entry-level routers such as the T25 or T45 We sell security and management services for our clients' structures, which allows us to provide visibility…

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Web filtering and two-factor authentication are great features."
"The most valuable feature is the FortiManager for centralized management."
"There are lots of features and most of them are deployed for internet security. Users are protected if they accidentally go to some malicious sites."
"The security features are about the best that I've seen anywhere."
"The most valuable feature of this solution is Quota."
"It's very fast and easy to configure."
"Their proxy-based inspection is responsive and secure."
"It is useful for protecting and segregating the internal networks from the internet. Most of our customers also use the FortiGate client to connect to their offices by using the VPN client, and of course, they usually activate the antivirus, deep inspection, and intrusion prevention services. They are also using it for web filtering and implementing various policies dealing with forwardings, NAT, etc."
"I like that the initial setup is straighforward. It's also a scalable solution."
"The UI is quite good."
"The mapping features and traffic logging are good."
"The tool helps us to integrate with other brands."
"The solution's initial setup process is easy."
"The most useful feature is the performance of the firewalls and networking operations."
"I am impressed with the product's antivirus features, strong encryption, policy implementation and easier installation."
"We make use of the new data center, specifically the containerized data center which is built and reviewed by Huawei, including all the device's infrastructure."
"The solution has increased productivity with our outside salespeople being able to connect into their computers and use those remotely."
"If you just plan to use WatchGuard Firebox in your office and not publicly, then it is okay to purchase it. With WatchGuard Firebox, you can manage your users and permissions while also taking care of the basic setup phase in your office."
"From my experience with their customer service team, I would say that they seem quite knowledgeable and fairly quick to respond."
"The most valuable feature is the GUI, especially the real-time bandwidth usage report. Also, its integration with WiFi access points is nice."
"Firebox's best feature is the access portal."
"The main features of the solution are the control of the site-to-site network access and the overall features."
"Because we bought two firewalls... we need a central place to manage the policies and deploy them to both devices. It's good that it provides a system management console that is able to manipulate and manage policies in one place and deploy them to different locations."
"I find this solution very easy to manage. The web manager and Firebox key features are particularly impressive for cloud applications. That's why I often recommend this solution to our clients. It has good threat management capabilities and works against different types of threats."

Cons

"The Web-filter in this solution is not very good."
"The solution could be more secure and stable."
"One of the features that I would like to have is to do with endpoint production, it should be integrated. For example, the firewall gets notified of any kind of forensic event that needs to be done, such as if there is a ransomware attack and how it originated, all those records have to be available from the firewall, which is not."
"When we cluster the two Fortinet FortiGate boxes together we have some issues."
"Fortinet FortiGate could improve the user interface. There should be more functionality and options through the GUI."
"You do need some IT knowledge in order to effectively work with the solution."
"I would like to see improvements in the support from Fortinet. Here in the Philippines, whenever we have problems with a Fortinet product, we mostly ask for support from distributors and resellers and not directly from Fortinet."
"Backup can be improved."
"With the Huawei firewall, none of the features comes at the top. We found out later that customer support is really not good. For this firewall, because of our customers' routine, for example, every six months they'll do a penetration test to find weaknesses. So whenever they came up with VAPT reports, they are looking to Huawei for help. I think that's basically because it's a different culture. Chinese culture and our culture is different. They have always tried to help find some excuses or say some other things that cannot help you solve the problem immediately."
"Huawei NGFW should have better reporting and a dashboard for the visibility of traffic."
"The IPS feature must be improved."
"There needs to be more security equipment for the solution."
"The solution does not have sandboxing features."
"I would like to see an antivirus solution included with the product."
"Wi-Fi scanning and Wi-Fi analysis would be useful features to include in the future."
"The tool lacks features."
"The solution needs to improve its accessibility."
"Due to their lack of investment in marketing, channel development, and certifications, WatchGuard faces challenges in gaining visibility and market share, especially in regions like Pakistan."
"The usability could be better, but it is definitely manageable. If we have to go to a backup internet connection, that could be a little bit easier."
"There's always room for improvement, especially if the threats are getting more sophisticated and the IT department cannot sufficiently meet this kind of sophistication with their own knowledge and experience. Knowing that this solution can get up to the level of addressing a lot of these threats is something that everybody wishes for. If we look at the dark web and the lawful web, they are two opposites, and if these two good and bad collide in the world of the internet, you want the best possible product—especially if you cannot get to that point of knowledge. I am just an individual and end user, with limited knowledge of usage. That's why I say there's always room for improvement, from their side and also from mine, because by knowing exactly what they can achieve and the knowledge that they can get on an everyday basis, and the portion that is understandable to me, it's an improvement for them as well."
"One other shortcoming is that there is no backup for it. We really haven't figured out how we might solve that problem. We may want to put a duplicate in... With WatchGuard, we just have the one box. If that were to fail, we'd probably be really hurting."
"The solution's pricing could be improved."
"Setup of this solution is complex, it's not plug and play."
"Last year, I had an issue with one of the Fireboxes going down. It was overheated, because my server room became overheated and this fried it."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"For our organization, the licensing costs are approximately $7,000 per year."
"There is a subscription-based model to use Fortinet FortiGate. We pay annually for the solution along with the support. If you want to have all the updates, and security patches you will need to renew your support."
"There is a license to use Fortinet FortiGate."
"It's an expensive solution."
"The price could be lower."
"If you purchase a one-year subscription with the hardware and then you want to renew for the second year, it is very costly."
"The pricing for the product is alright."
"Fortinet bundles FortiGate with other products and because of this, the price is a little expensive to some SMB enterprises."
"The pricing is cheap."
"Licensing fees are billed on an annual basis."
"Huawei is priced lower than most competitors."
"When you compare the price with other products, it's quite cost-effective. But the problem is always after, let's say, two years or three years later because they are not able to provide updates or patches very quickly."
"The solution isn't cheap. It's market price."
"The solution is inexpensive."
"Huawei is 30% cheaper than Arista."
"I believe that we are entitled to a one-year extension on our licensing."
"It is an entry-level product, so the price is cheap."
"Firebox is priced reasonably."
"We paid $4000 in AUD for WatchGuard Firebox per year. There were no additional costs."
"It's in the medium range. Its price is pretty good considering the functions and add-ons that are used."
"Very competitive pricing regarding throughput compared to other alternatives."
"I think the larger firewall packages are much better because a normal firewall is not enough for these times. You need IPS, APT, and all the security features of a firewall that you can buy."
"WatchGuard had a very competitive price. It was only 10 to 20 percent more than a single instance device but with that extra cost it provided a second load balancing device... unlike other brands whose method of hardware and software licensing would have doubled our cost."
"The solution is not expensive and customers pay for a yearly license."
