We performed a comparison between Microsoft Azure Synapse Analytics and VMware Tanzu Data Services based on real PeerSpot user reviews.
Find out in this report how the two Data Warehouse solutions compare in terms of features, pricing, service and support, easy of deployment, and ROI."The ability to scale out services on-demand and scale them down when they are not required is most valuable. You are in control of your expenditures, and you are also in control of the horsepower that you need. That's a major advantage."
"We use Azure Synapse Analytics in many different areas and industries, so I like that you can administrate and create pipelines for difference sources of data and later integrate and deploy it to other internal areas, such as separate dashboards for financials, and so on."
"The pricing seems to be quite fair."
"The most valuable feature of Microsoft Azure Synapse Analytics is its integration with the new legacy systems. Whatever application we want to integrate, we receive the reports based on the objects. The solution is easy to purchase from the cloud."
"The solution offers strong scalability opportunities."
"The most valuable feature is that you can suspend the computer if it is not being used, which means that you don't incur costs."
"The most valuable features are the flexibility and that it's easy to use as an end-user compared to AWS."
"The solution's best feature is its predictive analytics."
"RabbitMQ will help to remove a lot of the complexities and create a loosely coupled codebase."
"RabbitMQ provides access to SDKs for development and the ability to raise and log tickets if we encounter issues. We can integrate RabbitMQ using various languages like Java or Python using the provided SDKs."
"The most valuable feature for us is horizontal scaling."
"The loading speed is very good."
"Companies can scale the solution, so long as they have server room."
"Helps us to achieve large-scale analytics."
"The security is great."
"We have been able to set up a messaging system that facilitates data integration between the software modules that we sell."
"I would like to see more ready-to-use products from Synapse. Right now, everything seems a bit futuristic without much modern use."
"When I was trying to link services to an SFTP site it was not able to do all the possible encryption that I needed. They can improve by adding more encryption options."
"It needs strong support for social media, internet data, and native support for NoSQL."
"Microsoft Azure Synapse Analytics could improve in usability. I have found the same issue with all Microsoft solutions."
"We'd, of course, always like to pay less for the service if we can."
"Documentation could be improved."
"The major challenge that we're seeing with Azure Synapse is around security concerns. The way it is working right now, it has Managed VNet by Microsoft option, similar to the implementation of Azure Databricks, which may pose a concern for financial institutions. For managed environments, the banks have very strict policies around data being onboarded to those environments. For some confidential applications, the banks have the policy to encrypt it with their own key, so it is sort of like Bring Your Own Key, but it is not possible to manage the resources with Microsoft or Databricks, which is probably the major challenge with Azure Synapse. There should be more compatibility with SQL Server. It should be easier to migrate solutions between different environments because right now, it is not really competitive. It is not like you can go and install SQL Database in some other environment. You will have to go through some migration projects, which probably is one of the major showstoppers for any bank. When they consider Synapse, they not only consider the investment in the actual service; they also consider the cost of the migration process. When you scale out or scale down your system, it becomes unavailable for a few minutes. Because it is a data warehouse environment, it is not such a huge deal, but it would be great if they can improve it so that the platform is available during the change of configuration."
"The cost of the solution has room for improvement."
"The product is pretty hard to configure."
"they need to interact more with customers. They need to explain the features, especially when there are new releases of Greenplum. I know just from information I've found that it has other features, it can be used to for analytics, for integration with Big Data, Hadoop. They need to focus on this part with the customer."
"I was struggling with installing a few things. It would be good if was somewhat similar to RedHat. There should be more documentation regarding installation troubleshooting."
"Tanzu Greenplum's compression for GPText could be made more efficient."
"The support feature could benefit from some improvement in terms of accessibility and responsiveness."
"If messages pile up until the space of the memory is full, then basically, the cluster goes down, and someone has to log in through the backend and purge all messages."
"We needed to configure additional plugins. While it was relatively easy to do this on-premises, it became more challenging in the cloud."
"VMware Tanzu Greenplum needs improvement in the memory area and improved methods for quick access to the disc. So, one of the quick goals of Greenplum must work on enhancing access to the disc by adding hints in the database."
