A wireless site survey tool with a valuable floor map feature
Pros and Cons
  • "I like that our users can send us a floor map. Sometimes it's not feasible to travel to another country where the users are based. So, the floor map is very useful. It's a fantastic product."
  • "It would be better if it provided clear visibility. It would be better if it accommodated large physical sites like a warehouse with a ceiling height of more than twelve to fifteen feet. In such situations, we were unable to provide better coverage."

What is our primary use case?

We use Ekahau Site Survey to gain complete visibility into how many access points are required and how many will be stable. We can also generate the heatmap for two point four gigahertz or five gigahertz, and it can also let me know what the WiFi signal looks like. We mostly used Ekahau Site Survey to deploy Kahu and perform the migration for the existing value sector where we require a backup signal.

What is most valuable?

I like that our users can send us a floor map. Sometimes it's not feasible to travel to another country where the users are based. So, the floor map is very useful. It's a fantastic product.

What needs improvement?

It would be better if it provided clear visibility. It would be better if it accommodated large physical sites like a warehouse with a ceiling height of more than twelve to fifteen feet. In such situations, we were unable to provide better coverage.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Ekahau Site Survey for over seven and a half years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Ekahau Site Survey is a stable solution. It's the best one in the marketplace.

On a scale from one to ten, I would give stability a ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Ekahau Site Survey is a scalable solution.

On a scale from one to ten, I would give scalability a nine.

How are customer service and support?

I reached out to technical support a couple of times, and they were excellent.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is straightforward if you know about the thickness of the wall. I believe it has been accurate 90% of the time during the actual deployment. It takes about eight to 12 professionals to deploy this solution.

What about the implementation team?

We implemented this solution. We installed it manually.

What other advice do I have?

I would tell potential users that this tool is really powerful. If you want to implement and enjoy wireless features, buy this solution. You can do it on your own and save costs by not paying someone else to perform the site service.

On a scale from one to ten, I would give Ekahau Site Survey a ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Easy to set up, very stable, and very handy for large venues
Pros and Cons
  • "I don't handle the software that much. I'll do some of the testing with our CTO. It is primarily him and I. He has commented before that he likes the fact that with two licenses, we can set it up so that when we're on a large facility, he can see where I am and I can see where he is. That's for sure is very handy in large venues."
  • "Our CTO was not real happy with their support."

What is our primary use case?

We are using Ekahau Pro. We have been using it for site surveys. We are mainly using it for passive site surveys for large venues such as sporting arenas and convention centers.

What is most valuable?

I don't handle the software that much. I'll do some of the testing with our CTO. It is primarily him and I. He has commented before that he likes the fact that with two licenses, we can set it up so that when we're on a large facility, he can see where I am and I can see where he is. That's for sure is very handy in large venues.

What needs improvement?

It is a little bit more expensive than other solutions.

Our CTO was not real happy with their support.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have probably two years of hands-on experience.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I don't recall any stability issues. We're quite happy with it.

How are customer service and support?

One thing I know our CTO was not real happy with was support. I can't recall the issue, but dealing with the support in the US was a bit painful. We bought it directly out of the US as opposed to Canada.

How was the initial setup?

It was pretty straightforward for my CTO.

What was our ROI?

If the business would've kept going the way it was, we probably would've had it for a couple of years. With COVID and everything, we had a bit of a gap in the continuation of the workload that we had scheduled.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The licenses are a little pricey compared to iBwave, etc.

What other advice do I have?

Overall, we're pretty happy with it. One reason why we bought Ekahau was that one of our major customers happen to use Ekahau at a large Telco. They just don't have a lot of operators that can run it, and when we provide reports to them, it is for them to read and research, and things like that.

I work closely with the guy who does all the CAD work. He imports the CAD files and sets everything up, and he seems to be happy with that aspect of it. He had just that one issue with service support. So, based on that, I would rate it a nine out of 10.

User friendly solution best suited for medium sized organizations
Pros and Cons
  • "Ekahau Site Survey is user-friendly."
  • "Ekahau would benefit by making improvements to lag time."

What is our primary use case?

Our customers use the solution's software plus Sidekick.

What is most valuable?

Ekahau Site Survey is user-friendly. The solution is suited best for medium-sized companies.

What needs improvement?

Ekahau would benefit by making improvements to lag time. Whenever we are performing an active survey, there is a lag with the survey.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working with Ekahau Site Survey for two years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Ekahau Site Survey is scalable, it is easy to expand. We conduct active service for the organization. There are approximately 70,000 square feet or 400 users per floor.

How are customer service and support?

We have received good support from the customer service team at Ekahau. I do have one outstanding issue that has not been resolved. Overall, I would rate their support a four and a half out of five.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup of Ekahau Site Survey is simple.

What other advice do I have?

Overall, I would rate Ekahau Site Survey an eight out of ten.

We used it to create a plan to support the company headquarters building with a high-density environment.

What is most valuable?

When you have a new site to plan, with ESS you can easily create a good plan to begin to understand the solution and the challenges. This way, you can create a Bill of Materials to buy what will work for your business requirements.

How has it helped my organization?

With ESS, we were able to understand what will be necessary to create a plan to support the company headquarters building with more than 2000 people in a high-density environment.

What needs improvement?

Today, ESS doesn't support mixed outdoor-indoor environments. We have port and railroad environments that can't be created and exported to the WiFi management solution because ESS can´t support it.

In the ESS, we don't have an easy way to select access points and then select an external antenna for it. This is a very common situation when you are testing what could be the best solution for an environment.

Anther important point is that Ekahau Mobile doesn't have GPS support. We can't do outdoor site surveys as easily as we can in the ESS.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have worked with Ekahau since I was a Nortel Network Pre-sales Engineer, that is, more than 10 years.

What was my experience with deployment of the solution?

I have not encountered any deployment issues.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I have not encountered any stability issues.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

For some operations, such as report generation, it requires a lot memory (more than 16GB RAM).

How are customer service and technical support?

Customer Service:

Customer service provides fast answers.

Technical Support:

Sometimes, it takes technical support time to understand a new feature request.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We previously we worked on a project with AirMagnet Survey. This tool was provided by the company that was supporting us on the project.

How was the initial setup?

Initial setup was easy but only with the training course it was possible to get all of the tool's potential.

What about the implementation team?

Implementation was done by an in-house team.

What was our ROI?

The ROI was quick because we can save money doing it ourselves and we could develop internal knowledge.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

This is a professional solution that can be very useful for planning and troubleshooting, but it is not cheap. It can make sense when you are a WiFi Engineering Company or you have médium-large WiFi environments.

For small environments, I recommend Ekahau Mobile.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

Before choosing this product, we did not evaluate other options.

Sorry I didn´t see your post. The minimum amout of RAM recommended is 16 GB. I have a HP laptop with 32 GB and when I have to run a multi-floor design, in the Report Generation, the ESS use to spend 20 GB RAM.

With 8GB will run but probably you will suffer waiting to finish simple operations.

Regards,

Claudio

Accurate predictive analysis has helped us save time and resources
Pros and Cons
  • "The most valuable when it comes to this solution for me is the fact that I don't have to go out and do a site survey. With this solution, I can do it all predictably with the usual 90% accuracy."
  • "I would say that the indoor site accuracy is pretty good but the outdoor one should be improved. I would say if there was a way to put trees in there and canopies, that would be great."

What is our primary use case?

Our primary use case for this solution is predictive analysis before we launch installation processes at outdoor campgrounds.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable when it comes to this solution for me is the fact that I don't have to go out and do a site survey. With this solution, I can do it all predictably with the usual 90% accuracy.

What needs improvement?

I would say that the indoor site accuracy is pretty good but the outdoor one should be improved. I would say if there was a way to put trees in there and canopies, that would be great.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using this solution for about three years.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

When it comes to scalability, I would say that it would have been nicer if you wouldn't have to pay for a single-user license. It would be great to have a multi-user license option.

How are customer service and support?

I would rate their technical support team a 10, on a scale from one to 10, with one being the worst and 10 being the best.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

How was the initial setup?

I would say that the initial setup of this solution is straightforward.

What other advice do I have?

I would rate this solution as a whole a 10, on a scale from one to 10, with one being the worst and 10 being the best.

Easy setup, stable, and scalable
Pros and Cons
  • "The solution is user-friendly and it provides a good output that can be measured, and I can describe and pinpoint any inaccuracy shortfalls."
  • "The report generation has room for improvement and is missing small details."

What is our primary use case?

We use the solution for Wi-Fi validation, signal analysis, and maps.

What is most valuable?

The solution is user-friendly and it provides a good output that can be measured, and I can describe and pinpoint any inaccuracy shortfalls.

What needs improvement?

The report generation has room for improvement and is missing small details.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using the solution for a couple of years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I give the stability an eight out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I give the scalability an eight out of ten. When the license is being used on the accounting side the solution is occupied and we have to wait to generate the report we require. In order to avoid waiting an additional license is required to run both functions at once.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is straightforward. We only need to import the cache and restart it.

What about the implementation team?

The implementation is completed in-house.

What other advice do I have?

I give the solution a seven out of ten.

Ekahau Site Survey is fast and reliable. I recommend the solution to others.

Reliable survey application, but it could be integrated with more operating systems
Pros and Cons
  • "It is a stable solution."
  • "Its migration and visualization features need improvement."

What is our primary use case?

I use the solution for conducting surveys of large-scale businesses and healthcare institutes.

What is most valuable?

The solution is a reliable survey application.

What needs improvement?

Presently, we can only integrate the solution with Mac OS. It has been costly for us and affects the decision process too. They should provide integration with Windows as well.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using the solution for two and a half years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It is a very stable solution.

How are customer service and support?

The solution's support team works well.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Neutral

How was the initial setup?

The solution's initial setup was straightforward. It took 30 minutes for the process to complete.

What about the implementation team?

We took help from a third-party vendor to implement the solution.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The solution is less costly than iBwave. You need to buy a separate license per user. The additional costs are based on the use cases.

What other advice do I have?

I advise others to learn about the different functions of wired and wireless versions of the solution. Also, it would help if they installed the solution on an iPad Pro with a LiDAR scanner for autopilot feature to run smoothly.

I rate the solution as a seven.
