Reasonably priced, simple to set up, and has lots of features
Pros and Cons
  • "The setup is simple."
  • "We'd like the product to be more flexible so that we could more easily manipulate some of the features."

What is our primary use case?

I'm primarily using it for WiFi. We use a basic setting.

How has it helped my organization?

I'm just using it for the internet connectivity.

What is most valuable?

The setup is simple. I'm using just the basic setup. We have an LTE setup. It is not complicated.

There are functions there that I am not using, for example, setting up VIOP on a computer. It's nice that they are there, even though I am not taking advantage of them.

It is stable.

It's an affordable router.

What needs improvement?

There is a lot of competition that they need to get in front of.

It isn't very complex. It's very basic.

We'd like the product to be more flexible so that we could more easily manipulate some of the features.

I'd like it if it were open-source.

I find the solution to be a bit expensive to use in a prepaid environment.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using the solution for six years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is pretty stable. If it breaks down, it might be an issue on the network itself. That has nothing to do with the router. There aren't bugs or glitches. It doesn't crash or freeze. It works most of the time. If the internet is slow, I can put another provider, like MTM, on, and it works fine.

How are customer service and support?

I've never contacted technical support. I have a good level of experience and am able to configure it at a certain level. I'm comfortable with the technology.

How was the initial setup?

The solution is very simple to set up.

I simply set up a SIM card, and I used a browser and use the ITFS to connect to the router. You get a password, and you can change it. However, I'm not concerned about hackers or that stuff. In terms of security, I am not concerned.

What about the implementation team?

I handle the initial setup myself.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

For us, the cost is around $300. It is a bit expensive to use it. I'm using it in a prepaid environment, which can be costly. If I was using it with a data contract, it would be less expensive. That said, the router itself is pretty inexpensive.

What other advice do I have?

I'm an end-user.

The solution has been working fine. It hasn't died, and I've used it for six years now.

I'd rate the solution nine out of ten.

Simple, easy to use, and offers a good WiFi range
Pros and Cons
  • "It's simple to use and offers good connectivity."
  • "There isn't really any scalability potential."

What is our primary use case?

We have mobile internet service providers, and they are giving this product together with the SIM card, with the agreement of a subscription to mobile internet. It's predominantly used as part of a package, with SIM cards and mobile internet.

What is most valuable?

We've had a good experience with Huawei Routers.

It has a surprisingly good Wi-Fi range. I have compared several others, and it's always good. There's a good range on-premises, one spot can reach quite far, and it's also good even if you put it in a metal box. It even works well also regarding the GSM connection. The connection with the mobile towers is good.

I really like the simplicity. It's simple to use and offers good connectivity.

The initial setup is easy.

The stability was good.

What needs improvement?

We only use very simple functions. I have no other requirements for our usage. In our experience, we just do not need anything more.

It would be nice if they offered the most modern technology and connectivity going forward.

There isn't really any scalability potential.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is stable. There are no bugs or glitches, and it doesn't crash or freeze. It is reliable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

There isn't too much scalability available. However, we also haven't really needed to scale.

How are customer service and support?

We haven't had to contact support regarding routers. We reached out about the mobile connection. We had some issues, with the management of the mobile or IP addresses. They were okay in terms of being able to help us resolve the issue.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Neutral

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I've also used MikroTik and if you compare the two, MikroTik is a less developed brand and it's much, much more difficult. However, it's used for more professionals who can do different setups. On the other hand, for a small business, this Huawei is good. They're simple.

How was the initial setup?

The solution is simple to set up. It is not overly complex. The setup itself is quick, and you can deploy it in a couple of minutes. It is very fast.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I don't know what the pricing of the solution is.

What other advice do I have?

I'm a customer and end-user.

If you've had experience with routers before, you will be fine using Huawei. If you haven't, it's a good idea to ask for assistance from someone who has some experience.

I'd rate the solution eight out of ten. It's simple, and it works.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

On-premises

Easy-to-deploy platform providing good scalability
Pros and Cons
  • "The product is easy to improve and deploy in terms of configuration for engineers and technical executives."
  • "The product's pricing could be better."

What is most valuable?

The product is easy to improve and deploy in terms of configuration for engineers and technical executives.

What needs improvement?

The product's pricing could be better.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been using Huawei Enterprise Routers since November 2022.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It is a very stable product.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is a scalable platform.

How was the initial setup?

The product's initial setup process takes an hour or two. We visit the site, check the electrical conditions, and then install and validate the equipment. Later, we make a basic configuration. It requires two technical executives on-site and one engineer working remotely for deployment.

Cost effective and great features but needs more local presence
Pros and Cons
  • "The initial setup is easy."
  • "There is not much of a technical team for Huawei available in Pakistan as compared to Cisco with respect to very complex networks."

What is our primary use case?

To perform switching and routing along with firewall administration.

How has it helped my organization?

Routing capability is enough to run smooth operations in my organisation.

What is most valuable?

It's a very cost-effective solution. It is very cheap as compared to Cisco.

The initial setup is user friendly.

What needs improvement?

Huawei needs to be improved his support more and offer the same support as Cisco provided.

There is not much of a technical team for Huawei available in Pakistan as compared to Cisco with respect to very complex networks. We need to engage some foreign help in order to deploy properly. We didn't have any local technical people available in Pakistan. Normally, we need to turn to either China or Egypt to get the expertise.

All the features are available to fulfils organisational needs. However, for the SD-WAN, SDN features are obviously required now a days.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using the solution for about last 4 years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Stability is good as we were using it since last 2 years

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We have almost 288 sites. In each of these branches, 25 or more people are end users. We have deployed Huawei Routers on all the sites and we are connecting via IP SEC VPN.

How are customer service and support?

In terms of support, we basically bought equipment from a local partner. It's good but need improvement.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Neutral

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

In Pakistani market,  we were using a solution of cisco on backhaul. we are normally using Huawei switches on access network.

How was the initial setup?

Need improvement on support only.

What about the implementation team?

Excellent expertise

What was our ROI?

Smooth operations

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

It is very cost-effective. Obviously, in Pakistan, we are definitely looking for a cheap cost solution with reliability.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

Yes, Cisco and H3C

What other advice do I have?

I'm a customer and end-user.

Normally Cisco is used on the Backhaul network. I prefer Cisco and Juniper on Backhaul. In the access network, we can use Huawei and I prefer that.

I'd rate the solution 7 out of 10.

For an SME organization, Huawei is obviously affordable. Normally, SMEs are using it. However, on large networks like within the banking sector, they prefer to use Cisco rather than Huawei.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

On-premises

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

Good connection but lacks scaling capabilities and technical support
Pros and Cons
  • "When we started, the connection was amazing for the 100G between the switches and the co-switch. What the students typically use for school is a maximum is 40 so they now have faster technology."
  • "In my country we don't have Huawei technology, we only have Huawei routers for ISP. There is no agent for Huawei in Egypt."

What is most valuable?

When we started, the connection was amazing for the 100G between the switches and the co-switch. What the students typically use for school is a maximum is 40 so they now have faster technology.

What needs improvement?

We've only been testing the solution for a month and our main concern is stability. We wanted to see if it's as stable as, for example, Cisco. So far, that has not been the case. The router recently failed on us, and we had to end the test.

In my country we don't have Huawei technology, we only have Huawei routers for ISP. There is no agent for Huawei in Egypt.

In the end, the router was incompatible with the bundles.

It's difficult to get the scalability right.

There's a gap between their online support and documentation.

For how long have I used the solution?

Currently, we've been testing the solution. We've been testing it for one month now.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The stability ended up not being what we hoped, therefore, we reverted back to Cisco routers, which are much more stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The scaling wasn't a smooth experience at all. If you need to scale the product, you'll run into issues.

We had about 2,000 users on the solution before we decided to switch to Cisco.

How are customer service and technical support?

In Egypt, there is no Huawei in the local market, and therefore there isn't any support.  You can only go through an Independent Service Provider. When you have issues, you need to connect to and ISP, and that can sometimes be difficult.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We're a firm that handles multiple schools around the Middle East. Most of the schools use Cisco Solutions and FortiGate as a firewall. Therefore, we often use a variety of products, not just Huawei.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The price of the product is good and is quite a bit less than Cisco. I don't have exact pricing, however.

What other advice do I have?

We're simply a customer.

While we've tried the solution for a month, we're finding the stability isn't where we need it to be. Cisco is much more stable.

I would recommend the solution to others as it does offer good pricing. However, you need to have good support in your area. If you have a good technical person who can help you set up your network accurately and have access to good support, it might work out fine.

You also have to be careful not to overwhelm the router with users due to scalability issues. We have a school in the Gulf doing amazing however the school only needs to handle around 300 users we never hit full capacity in the first year of using it. We'll see if the hardware acts up after another year and possibly more users.

On a scale from one to ten, I'd rate it at a six. My experience is slightly biased, as we don't have support in my country, so when we run into issues we tend to be on our own. However, if stability, support, and market availability come together, it has the potential to be a great product.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Beneficial cloud connected networking, knowledgeable support, and reliable
Pros and Cons
  • "The most valuable feature of Huawei Enterprise Routers is if have two networks at different geographical locations with a great deal of distance they work together as if they are on the same cloud network."
  • "Huawei Enterprise Routers can improve by enhancing their security. The software architecture and the operating system that runs on their router and the security capability are not as strong when compared to Cisco."

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature of Huawei Enterprise Routers is if have two networks at different geographical locations with a great deal of distance they work together as if they are on the same cloud network.

What needs improvement?

Huawei Enterprise Routers can improve by enhancing their security. The software architecture and the operating system that runs on their router and the security capability are not as strong when compared to Cisco.

In an upcoming release, they should add more integration for mobile applications with the capability of management monitoring the network remotely.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Huawei Enterprise Routers for approximately one year.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Technology is changing very rapidly and Huawei Enterprise Routers is stable. We have not had any complaints from clients.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Huawei Enterprise Routers is scalable in my study. However, it can depend on the load.

How are customer service and support?

In the country I am from we have Huawei Enterprise Routers support teams everywhere. They are responsive and knowledgeable.

I rate the support from Huawei Enterprise Routers a five out of five.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I have used Cisco devices and in the past and they have been in the market for a long time. They know the ins and outs of the industry. With most of the protocols and architecture of networking, Cisco has been involved. Cisco is at the forefront, and Huawei Enterprise Routers are trying to adapt to the environment and markets.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup of Huawei Enterprise Routers is straightforward when compared to other similar solutions. The full setup process took approximately two hours per unit.

I rate the Huawei Enterprise Routers a four out of five.

What about the implementation team?

The manufacturers have specified the kind of attention that is required for maintenance, the cooling system conditions, and other aspects. Since we installed the Huawei Enterprise Routers, there has not been any major maintenance needed on the devices.

What other advice do I have?

I rate Huawei Enterprise Routers an eight out of ten.

Stable, relatively easy to deploy with a great price point
Pros and Cons
  • "The product is very reasonably priced."
  • "Lacks sufficient market availability."

What is our primary use case?

Huawei Enterprise Routers provides core and access switches. I'm an integrator and rate this solution nine out of 10.

What is most valuable?

The best feature about Huawei is the cost, particularly when you compare it to Cisco which has a much more expensive licensing model. The features of both solutions are almost the same and Huawei competes very well with Cisco.

What needs improvement?

I'd like to see an improvement in market availability; it's easier to get Cisco off the shelf than Huawei.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using this solution for three years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The product is relatively stable.

How are customer service and support?

The support is good.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

How was the initial setup?

If you have a good knowledge of Cisco, it's relatively easy to deploy Huawei because the command structures are similar. If you're dealing with a very large enterprise network, deployment can take a week or two. If it's not too large and the configurations and the setup are straightforward and don't require advanced traffic engineering, implementation can be achieved within a couple of days.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Licensing costs for Huawei are generally around five times cheaper than for Cisco.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

In the enterprise space, Cisco seems to be performing better than Huawei. When you look at all the features, particularly regarding component availability, then Cisco has plenty of proprietary features that Huawei does not have. With Cisco, you can patch and update without the need to reboot and the system will function. That aspect is lacking in Huawei.

What other advice do I have?

Huawei is the poor man's option to Cisco. You pay for every feature in Cisco, whereas Huawei has some features that you can get without having to pay for them. Budget will likely determine which solution you will choose.

I rate this product nine out of 10.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

On-premises
