Senior IAM Architect at a government with 201-500 employees
User provisioning is streamlined with automated workflows and email scheduling needs refinement
Pros and Cons
- "The solution is fully scalable, supporting everything from small companies to large enterprises."
- "Microsoft Entra ID Governance is relatively new, and some features require more development. For example, when creating user access review campaigns, we can't specify the time to send emails to reviewers—only the date."
What is our primary use case?
I am using Microsoft Entra ID Governance to integrate with our system. We control the joiner, mover, and leaver processes to enable auto provisioning and deprovisioning of user accounts. We also have an access request portal where users can make self-service requests for access, which follows a workflow for manager and system owner approval. Additionally, we use it for access recertification or user access review to ensure the right users have the correct permissions.
What is most valuable?
Microsoft Entra ID Governance offers an easy configuration process via a graphical user interface for administrators. Unlike some other products that require coding skills, Microsoft allows configurations through its interface. It supports many certified products and integrates well with Microsoft products without needing to develop from scratch. This allows for straightforward connector creation to integrate with third-party systems.
What needs improvement?
Microsoft Entra ID Governance is relatively new, and some features require more development. For example, when creating user access review campaigns, we can't specify the time to send emails to reviewers—only the date. This feature could be improved to allow more specificity. Compared to other IGA platforms like Saviynt or SailPoint, Microsoft may need further enhancements in certain areas.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using the solution since I joined the company, which is almost two years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?
I haven't noticed any major performance issues with Microsoft Entra ID Governance. The solution is stable, and Microsoft's global support network is effective, offering good support when needed.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The solution is fully scalable, supporting everything from small companies to large enterprises.
How are customer service and support?
Microsoft provides very good support globally. If any issues arise, support tickets can be raised, and they are addressed effectively.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
In my previous company, I used Saviynt, which is considered a top-tier platform for IGA. However, Saviynt requires a minimum number of users to set up and can be complex because it requires developer skills for certain configurations.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup was easy compared to other products like Saviynt or SailPoint. You just need to enable the license for Microsoft Entra ID Governance to start using it in conjunction with an existing Azure tenant.
What about the implementation team?
We handled the implementation in-house as we already had an Azure tenant. There was no need for external consultants or integrators.
What was our ROI?
Most IGA tools, including Microsoft Entra ID Governance, offer return on investment in the long run by reducing operational workload. Previously, more staff were needed to manage user permissions, but with these tools, staff levels can be reduced.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Pricing depends on the number of users. For smaller companies, you pay for exactly the number of users. This is more cost-effective compared to Saviynt or SailPoint, which require payment for a minimum number of users regardless of actual usage.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
In the market, platforms like Saviynt or SailPoint are alternatives, but they have higher setup and minimum usage requirements.
What other advice do I have?
Understanding the company's requirements is crucial. Evaluate the number of people, their needs, and what improvements are sought before advising on using Microsoft Entra ID Governance. I would rate the overall solution around seven or eight.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
Public Cloud
If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?
Microsoft Azure
