Great for creating customized ETL jobs but sometimes is a little slow
Pros and Cons
- "We're sold on the customization part of the solution."
- "It gets the job done but it's a bit slow."
What is our primary use case?
What is most valuable?
The most valuable feature is being able to create custom ETL jobs. We're sold on the customization part of it.
What needs improvement?
There is room for improvement in the performance - it gets the job done but it can be a bit slow, but then it is a free product. For now, it does the job that we need and we're quite happy with it.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?
In terms of stability, I find that from time to time, the memory is not enough. I think it's a hardware issue.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
For now, our requirements aren't that big and we didn't buy the solution for that aspect of it. If we do need to scale, we'll just add another workstation for additional jobs.
How are customer service and support?
We haven't availed ourselves of technical support yet so I don't know.
How was the initial setup?
Setup was fairly simple, it took about half a day.
What about the implementation team?
We used internet sources for implementation. Two of us worked on it and only one person is required for maintenance.
What other advice do I have?
I would rate this product a seven out of 10.

- "Talent consumes a lot of resources on my PC."
What is our primary use case?
I use this solution for development purposes. This solution is installed on my PC. For the project that we're currently working on, I am the only user.
What is most valuable?
Talend can connect to multiple data sources, including relational data sources, ERP, CRM, and others.
What needs improvement?
Talent consumes a lot of resources on my PC. Also, the support could be better.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Talend Open Studio since April 2020.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
There are always new versions being released — new updates. Periodically, we upgrade it to avoid any old bugs.
How are customer service and technical support?
As it's open-source, there is no commercial support. We just use the forums and ask the community when we need help.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup was very easy.
What about the implementation team?
I installed it myself.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
We use the open-source version. It does the job well for nothing — without cost. That's the advantage of this product.
What other advice do I have?
I would recommend Talend. It's open-source and it's a good product. Overall, on a scale from one to ten, I would give Talend a rating of seven.

Senior System Administrator at a tech company with 501-1,000 employees
Useful took that's easy to use and has a good support community
Pros and Cons
- "We have contacted their technical support. They are great. They offer very professional help. If I need some technical answer, they are very professional. They are quick, professional, and very accurate."
- "If I compare Open Studion to other solutions, their interface is robust but not so fancy looking. This is an area that could use improvement. I would like to see an updated interface."
What is our primary use case?
We use the on-prem model of this solution. Our primary use case is for connecting legacy applications. We fill a new ERP and we also fill some legacy applications which we can integrate directly in ERP so we use Open Studio for this integration.
What is most valuable?
Open Studio is very good if you are a smaller company and you can have the budget to pay for integration. It's a useful tool that's easy to use.
What needs improvement?
If I compare Open Studion to other solutions, their interface is robust but not so fancy looking. This is an area that could use improvement. I would like to see an updated interface.
Open Studio doesn't have features that some of its competitors do like administrative tools.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
It is stable. This is one portion of a solution, it's not the whole. Open Studio doesn't have the software that triggers the routine every time, a scheduler. We used an external scheduler, which was set so that it grabs the file when the files appear in a folder.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
It's scalable because if you get to the point that you can't handle this small free software, you can have another software which is more expandable with more connectors and more functionalities. You can upgrade but you must pay. If you want to work in big data, you must use another software. Open Studio is for small use cases.
If you want to work on big data, if you want to work and analyze five or ten teradata then you need other software in this portfolio. It is scalable but you must change the software. You must upgrade this license and when you upgrade this license you get the support, you get more connectors, and you get additional functionalities.
One developer uses Open Studio. We are two users, another colleague and me.
How are customer service and technical support?
We have contacted their technical support. They are great. They offer very professional help. If I need some technical answer, they are very professional. They are quick, professional, and very accurate.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I worked previously with Gentran Integration Suite, about five years ago. I switched to Open Studio because I switched firms.
How was the initial setup?
It's a very easy integration. Not so complicated. You must use the application itself. Open Studio is free and is one small part of this portfolio which Talend offers in this portfolio.
It took two weeks to connect it but all of the preparations and everything took three months.
What about the implementation team?
We deployed this solution in-house. The application was custom made for the company and this application was not compatible with the ERP.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Talend is free and you can download it.
What other advice do I have?
It's great software for someone who is starting in this area. It covers all the basics. You can work and you can learn from scratch. It's pretty easy to start and to create. It's pretty easy to start and to create an integration.
I would rate it a ten out of ten. It's a lot easier to start. You can find a lot of information on the internet. It's a big community. They offer great solutions, which you can use with your use case. If there's a problem you can solve it yourself. With Talend Open Studio you can go to Google and you'll find a lot of different cases with similar problems. If you want to create something, you can create it on your own. You don't need any big expert.

What is most valuable?
The solution, in general, offers us a lot of great advantages.
It has a lot of very interesting features that we can use.
We're able to handle large amounts of data with ease.
What needs improvement?
I can't recall any missing features within the solution. Overall, we are happy with it.
The pricing could be lower. They should work to make it more affordable.
The solution can sometimes be slow from time to time while using the server. It would be ideal if it was more responsive.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The solution can sometimes run slow on the server. We'd like it to operate faster.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I've worked with SSIS in the past, and I've found that Talend actually offers many more features and capabilities.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The solution's pricing could be better. Its costs are a bit high.
What other advice do I have?
We're primarily customers and end-users. We aren't partners with Talend.

Practice Head, Analytics at a tech services company with 201-500 employees
Superior data integration, handles large data sets, documentation needs improvement
Pros and Cons
- "The most valuable features are definitely data integration, data preparation, and data stewardship."
- "he overall marketing and documentation of this product need to improve a lot."
What is our primary use case?
One of our clients' use case was for data integration from multiple sources and then to build our customer golden record.
What is most valuable?
The most valuable features are definitely data integration, data preparation, and data stewardship. Additionally, on a technical standpoint, the solution itself is pretty good.
What needs improvement?
The overall marketing and documentation of this product need to improve a lot. For example, if you see all the modern products such as Snowflake or Cloud ETL and go to their site, you will have various advanced documentation, brochures, reports and data charts. You can get prepared from all the information available. However, on Talend's site, you will not get this kind of marketing materials, which should be required. It is especially important If you are writing a proposal, you need to have these technical specifications documents. This documentation gives you a detailed understanding of the solution on top of the specification, technical information and other important information. Talend, unfortunately, is lagging on that aspect, they should work on it.
In the future, they could improve on stabilizing existing features and adding more prescriptive and predictive models as part of their components.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
In my experience It is stable. They have developed a lot and have kept up to date.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The solution is scalable. We did a big data integration that actually handling huge data sets, and the scalability of it is good.
How are customer service and technical support?
I would give technical support of Talend open studio an eight out of ten.
How was the initial setup?
The installation was straightforward, it was not complex.
What about the implementation team?
We do the implementation for the customers and some can take six months while others can take far less. It is all dependant on the customer's needs.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
There are many versions available and one is open-sourced which is free.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
I have evaluated Snowflake and Cloud ETL.
What other advice do I have?
There are many different version of this solution that fits into the customer's needs. We have supplied versions best suited for data management, data integration, pipeline and many others. The version varies from customer to customer and some are using the Open Source Talend. Some are using the licensed version and others for the data stewardship.
For those wanting to purchase this solution, there are some important things to consider. This solution has better multiple pre-built connectors than competitors, which is good for any client or any business, because today, in most of the cases, they are dealing with multiple data sources from multiple technologies. Data integration from multiple data sources, I find Talend is extremely helpful.
The features in this solution are very important for today's organization.
I rate Talend open studio a seven out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
Hybrid Cloud

Head of Data at a insurance company with 501-1,000 employees
An intuitive and easy to use solution that comes with so many connectors
Pros and Cons
- "It has got so many connectors. It is intuitive and easy to use."
- "It is not as visually appealing as some of the other tools."
What is most valuable?
It has got so many connectors. It is intuitive and easy to use.
What needs improvement?
It is not as visually appealing as some of the other tools.
For how long have I used the solution?
We have been working with Talend Open Studio for five years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
It is a stable solution.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
It is scalable. At the moment, six or seven users are using it.
How are customer service and technical support?
They've been good.
How was the initial setup?
It was moderately straightforward.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Price could be lower. It is getting too expensive when compared to some other solutions, which is actually a little bit concerning.
What other advice do I have?
It is a good enterprise solution. We are about to migrate to a public cloud. They've got lots of extra features when you go to the cloud, especially around data management and data quality. They're definitely a leader. Gartner has included them in the top quadrants. They're just getting a little bit pricey. They've got to be careful of their pricing.
I would rate Talend Open Studio an eight out of ten. It is pretty good.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises

Senior BI Developer at a tech vendor with 11-50 employees
Comes with many connectors for different databases, but training videos would help a lot
Pros and Cons
- "The drag-and-drop feature in the interface is very good."
- "Having additional training materials, such as a video tutorial, would be an improvement."
What is our primary use case?
I use Open Studio for operational data in the telecom industry. We were working with the data, connecting or joining the tables between different data sources with a very large volume. We perform data preparation and transformation and then look deeper into the details.
How has it helped my organization?
This is not my core tool, but when we have customers who are going to be working with open-source tools then we propose this for ETL use cases.
What is most valuable?
The most valuable feature is the variety of connectors that are available for integration with different databases.
The drag-and-drop feature in the interface is very good.
The open-source community for this solution has a lot of users, so it is very strong.
What needs improvement?
Having additional training materials, such as a video tutorial, would be an improvement. I used the online guide, which is very good but it is quite long. If there were a video and a training syllabus then it would be good.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Talend Open Studio for about one year.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
I had some issues with stability when I first installed Talend and I think that it was to do with the difference between Java versions. I struggled for a little bit but since then, everything has been going great.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Because I am working on the open-source version, it does not make sense to assess scalability. If I were working on the licensed version then it would matter.
There are two or three of us in the company who uses it.
How was the initial setup?
I had a few problems during the initial setup. I had to configure some environment variables within my machine in order to be able to start working with Talend. I think that it had to do with confusion between Talend and the Java version that I had installed.
The deployment is almost nothing. You just click on the icon and it will launch.
Here in Asia, the on-premises deployment is preferred.
What about the implementation team?
I deployed Talend on my own.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
This is an open-source solution.
What other advice do I have?
This is a good solution but I would prefer it if it were easier to find information on how to use it, such as training videos.
I would rate this solution a seven out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises

A powerful ETL tool with a simple setup and great functionality
Pros and Cons
- "You can use Talend as a stand-alone application without customization to collect data and generate reports over dashboards. It's got great functionality."
- "There used to be many Youtube channels that offered Talend training, but now there don't seem to be any. The solution should offer more online training resources."
What is our primary use case?
We use Talend for the collection of data from many different sources. We use it mostly as a data integrator.
What is most valuable?
Talend as an ETL tool is very powerful. It allows for a lot of connections to any database source. The connectivity was one of the main reasons we started working with Talend.
It's easy and user-friendly. It has most of what I want as a technical or nontechnical. Anything I need, I can find it in Open Studio.
You can use Talend as a stand-alone application without customization to collect data and generate reports over dashboards. It's got great functionality.
What needs improvement?
There used to be many Youtube channels that offered Talend training, but now there don't seem to be any. The solution should offer more online training resources.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've been using the solution for more than three years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The solution is stable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
We have no problem with the scalability of the solution. We plan to increase usage in the future.

The pricing is okay. They could improve their pricing model, however.
What other advice do I have?
We use the on-premises deployment model.
I would rate the solution nine out of ten.
