Great review! I agree with you: A management console would really be a plus, and who knows, maybe one day this could be extended to a (graphical) setup wizard.

This is an excellent review. I think most companies will reach the ROI within a couple of months, too. Although licence fees might be high, I think JIRA is worth the price.

Thanks for your comment! We don't need autodiscovery, but it is good to know that uCMDB contains this feature. We would like to use a CMDB tool which is able to trigger external actions An example: * Someone adds a new server within the CMDB (let's say it is a VM) *…

I think that using one solution for all of your needs wouldn't do it. Your requirements (points 1-6) are very different and each of them refers to a different type of application When it comes down to storing the files, I can highly recommend LizardFS. The software-defined…

Hi Steve, thanks for asking! MS support is not that bad, actually, The Fedora project provides VirtIO drivers which enhance the performance of MS guests in a great way. I ran douzens of Windows 7, Win2008 and Win2012 servers under KVM and had no Windows-specific issues…

Greetings I am pleased to meet you guys and be part of the "hard core" of reviewers here at IT Central Station. Thanks @Ariel for inviting me! Looking at the previous speakers, I feel like I might be one of the younger folks around. My name is Valentin Höbel, I'm 28 years…

Unfortunately I can't edit my own post, so I'll just add another comment My statement > If you want to use something which requires no coding skills at all only applies if you want to use more powerful features/abilities of Ansible. Basic config mgmt can be performed…

I wonder what makes you think that SaltStack is less popular than Ansible; as a matter of fact, SaltStack seems to have more contributions from different developers than the other solution. Also there is a large community of folks using SaltStack, so getting help or even…

Oh, I know VirtualBox. I have been using it for years and as I stated before, I think it is a great product I was working as a consultant for many companies and I have seen many very large virtualized environments, all of them based on either KVM, Xen or VMWare. But NONE…

> and KVM is not as mature as Hyper-V, VMware Workstation or Virtual Box You can't be serious? Virtual Box is a typical "let's start a VM on my desktop" product, but far away from enterprise virtualization. Have you ever seen a virtualization cluster in the datacenter based…

There is nothing wrong with VirtualBox. It is a great product, but not a server virtualization product. Furthermore it lacks of good performance and features one need for running virtual environments in the datacenter or cloud VirtualBox is a solution for local…

I didn't claim it is a good solution or that I used it, I just wrote that there is one > you must not have much experience with backup solutions Interesting conclusion. Actually, I write the backup solutions I need myself or I implement it using open source software and…

Well, VMWare at least allows taking snapshots of virtualized guests. This is not the same as performing backups, but it helps if you need something helpful fast In my eyes, the vendor VMWARE should create a decent backup solution - oh wait, they did! It is called VMware…
