We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Fortigate represents a really scalable way of delivering perimeter network security, some level of layer 7 security, WAF, and also a way to create a meshed ADVPN solution.""The most valuable feature is the interface, which is very user friendly. We are utilizing most of the features, like content filtering. The firewall is powerful.""It is easy to use. We chose this product for the possibility to have virtual domains (VDOMs). We are building another company in the group, and we would like to split the firewalling rules and policies between these two companies. Each company would be able to manage its own policies and security rules, which is an advantage of Fortinet FortiGate. We can define VDOMs, and every company can manage its own VDOM as if it has its own physical firewall, but in fact, we would be using the same physical appliance because we are also using the same internet lines. So, it allows us to reuse the existing resources without the disadvantage of having to compromise on policies and security. Each company can choose its own way of working.""We can use our devices to check all of the perimeters. It secures email websites.""Its stability is the most valuable.""We use the FortiGate Sandbox to detect zero-day vulnerabilities, such as anomalies or malware, that are unknown and have not yet been discovered.""The most valuable features are the policies, filtering, and configuration.""This is a quality product with ok support, and it is better than the competition we've tried."

"It's great for handling complex items.""It provides a lot of functionality adhering to the current trends.""I would most definitely recommend this solution to other people.""I wanted to go to a software-defined WAN and in Barracuda they have a specific protocol called TINA (Transport Independent Network Architecture). You can create a master policy over the internet and it allows you to do Quality of Services on top of it. That is really helpful for me.""Inbound and outbound traffic analysis, rule creation wizard, and the GUI portal are among the key features.""One of the big benefits of the product is that it allows you to manage big environments with fewer resources.""The features I find most valuable is the VPN and the fact that we can apply our policies to the program.""Most people are using enterprise applications remotely, and there is no license for SSL VPN, or in other words point-to-site. There is no limit on that. On other devices there is a specific limit and you have to pay per use for SSL VPN."

More Barracuda CloudGen Firewall Pros →

"The most valuable feature for us is the cluster support.""It really is a pretty complete solution.""We consolidated from three management consoles and three clusters to only one, which is a big improvement.""We are using gateways, and I appreciate the high-availability gateways they have. They stand out more than the competitors.""SSL/TLS traffic inspection features are used for advanced threat prevention against secure SSL traffic.""The versatility is the solution's most valuable feature.""The solution helps protect network security by offering threat prevention, addressing vulnerabilities, and utilizing blades.""Security effectiveness is the most valuable feature. Operational efficiency, reporting, and support are also good."

Cons
"I would like to see improvements with the antivirus and IPS as they are not working properly all the time.""It should be more stable. There should be full integration within Fortinet products themselves as well as with other third-party products. Especially when you're not dealing with SIEM and the correlation of the security box, we want Fortinet to be able to share that information with as many other products as it can.""Technical support is good but the response time could be faster.""We had some issues in the beginning while setting it up, but after doing the firmware update, it is working fine.""The cloud management and automation capability could be improved.""The captive portal could be improved.""The user interface could be improved to make it less confusing and easier to set up.""The reports are very basic."

More Fortinet FortiGate Cons →

"A rule for email announcements, when configured hits occur, would be a great improvement for a more efficient experience.""The biggest downside is that it is quite an expensive product.""I would like to see a more user-friendly dashboard and an easier interface.""They have a very complicated interface. It's very hard to learn.""If you have another brand of VPN where you have to put an SSL VPN between two devices, Barracuda doesn't support that at a certain point. You can't actually build the VPN between Barracuda and a different device of a different brand.""While using Barracuda CloudGen Firewall, we encounter issues with VPN profiles for Windows.""The administration UI could be better. It should also have better application detection policies.""The technical manuals, at times, have images that don't match the actual screens and are not always as clear as they could be on the configuration."

More Barracuda CloudGen Firewall Cons →

"The product needs to offer multi-tenancy.""The stability of the solution could be improved, but this is the problem of all the solutions in the market. This isn't just a problem specific to Check Point.""I would like to see a step-by-step initial installation of the firewall. That would be really helpful. Like in Oracle appliances, when you start it asks you, what's your current IP address? An initial setup should be a step by step and intuitive process. You click on "begin," it asks you some simple questions. You fill in the blanks - your current IP address, what you want to do, you want to set up a site to site VPN, for example, that kind of thing. That would be the smartest thing to have.""The solution’s technical support, DNS security and training could be improved.""Check Point CloudGuard is not a feature-centric product because Check Point concentrates on security.""There is room for improvement in the integration with PaaS services from the public cloud. It would be very helpful.""There is room for improvement in addressing bugs and support issues.""At CPX, we heard that we can see all the things on the same platform. That is what we have been asking for, and hopefully, we are going to start seeing it this year."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "Fortinet has one or two license types, and the VPN numbers are only limited by the hardware chassis make."
  • "These boxes are not that expensive compared to what they can do, their functionality, and the reporting you receive. Fortinet licensing is straightforward and less confusing compared to Cisco."
  • "Go for long term pricing negotiated at the time of purchase."
  • "Work through partners for the best pricing."
  • "The value is the capability of having multiple services with one unique license, not having the limitation per user licensing schema, like other vendors."
  • "Easy to understand licensing requirements."
  • "We saved a bundle by not needing all the past appliances from an NGFW."
  • "The cost is too high... They have to focus on more features with less cost for the customer. If you see the market, where it's going, there are a lot of players offering more features for less cost."
  • More Fortinet FortiGate Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "It is a product with a very transparent model of licensing. In the sense of hidden expenses, they do not exist with this model. "
  • "We evaluated a lot of different options. We concluded that Barracuda NG Firewall provided the most features for an exemplary price. "
  • "My advice is to try and evaluate it (Barracuda offers a trial period of one month)."
  • "Pricing is good. Licensing is pretty much automatic if using Control Center."
  • "Pricing and licensing are fine. It's worth the value because every four years, if I buy any other product, I have to replace my hardware. But with Barracuda I get a free hardware upgrade. Today I'm using Xbox. After four years I can take another Xbox or a Ybox."
  • "It would be nice if the pricing and licensing offered for less."
  • "Purchasing through AWS Marketplace was good. We did it because it was easy."
  • "In general, it tends to be cheaper than most solutions."
  • More Barracuda CloudGen Firewall Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "On average, it is normally on the lower end, being less expensive than Palo Alto or Cisco."
  • "It is more expensive than other solutions and would be more competetive in the market if it came down in price."
  • "We pay approximately ‎€150,000 ($166,000 USD) per year."
  • "Licensing is simply by the number of hosts that you are looking to protect within your environment. It makes it much easier to ensure that you are covering your environment."
  • "There is flexibility in the different licensing models that are offered."
  • "The pricing is pretty high, not just for your capital, for what you have to pay upfront, but for what you pay for your annual software renewals as well, compared to a lot of other vendors. Check Point is near the top, as far as how much it's going to cost you."
  • "Pricing of CloudGuard is pretty fair when you have a single account. It's comparable with other cloud providers. But for our use case, it got really pricey when we had to deploy multiple CloudGuards on multiple accounts in different regions, because you can't have CloudGuard protecting multiple regions. That's the big thing."
  • "The pricing and licensing have been good. We just had to do a license increase for our portion of it. We had that done within a couple of days. Given the fact that it's purely a software-based license, it ends up being even quicker than doing it for an on-prem firewall."
