We used the product for one of our projects associated with online gaming.
The product is scalable and reasonably priced, but it lacks caching features, and the support team takes a lot of time to provide solutions
Pros and Cons
- "The product is very well interconnected with other Amazon services."
- "A lot of caching features must be added to the solution."
What is our primary use case?
What is most valuable?
The product is very well interconnected with other Amazon services. It is very well connected with EC2, so the integration with S3 becomes easier. It reduces latency to some extent. If all our services fall under the AWS landscape, the user experience would be much better.
What needs improvement?
A lot of caching features must be added to the solution. It only has the standard caching features. Akamai has properties that have multiple features that can be added as rules. Something similar must be added to CloudFront.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using the solution for more than three years.

The tool is stable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The tool is scalable. A team of three people was using the product in our organization.
How are customer service and support?
We opted for the standard support. The support was not the best. It was satisfactory. The support people took a lot of time to answer. Though we explained our issues well, they did not understand them clearly. It might be because the support team lacked skilled people. The expensive support packages might not have such issues.

Neutral
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
Before CloudFront, my projects were deployed on EC2. Prior to my position, the company used DigitalOcean but migrated to AWS for centrality of data.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup can be challenging without knowledge of CDNs, but with the right understanding, it’s quite straightforward.
What about the implementation team?
I managed the deployment myself. I have automated the process using CloudFormation templates, allowing anyone to duplicate the setup using the provided codebase.
What was our ROI?
The primary ROI comes from CloudFront's stability and reliability. It effectively solves our problem of globally and securely hosting our applications.

Solution architect at a integrator with 51-200 employees
Easy to install, stable, and scalable
Pros and Cons
- "It is stable."
- "They should have more Edge locations so that CloudFront can be used much more. If they can make it a little bit cheaper and better than other networks, we will be able to use it more."
What is our primary use case?
We use it for media content delivery to different geographical locations. We have its latest version.
What is most valuable?
It is stable.
What needs improvement?
Its price is really high and can be improved. From the technology perspective, they should have some multi-platform integration. When you are configuring something on top of it, it is geoblocking. There are some limitations for the IP addresses, which other solutions don't have.
They should have more Edge locations so that CloudFront can be used much more. If they can make it a little bit cheaper and better than other networks, we will be able to use it more.
They don't have a lot of PoPs in Asia-Pacific. That's one of the reasons why there is some latency. They can reduce this latency by adding multiple PoPs. If we are concentrating on markets, such as Vietnam, the Philippines, where we don't have PoPs, we have to ride on other providers.
For how long have I used the solution?
We started to use it six months ago.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
It is stable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
It is scalable.
How are customer service and technical support?
I've never interacted with them. Normally, with the help of the documentation, you can manage it on your own.
How was the initial setup?
It took about half an hour to install it. Its installation is not a big thing, but setting up rules and everything else takes a few hours.
What about the implementation team?
We are a consultancy company. We used to do the installation, and we also used to have a consultancy with other companies.
For its deployment and maintenance, three to four guys are required. One architect is there, and then there is one manager and two engineers.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Its price is really on the high side. It should be cheaper in general.
What other advice do I have?
I would definitely recommend this product. We like Amazon products.
I would rate Amazon CloudFront a nine out of 10.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
Public Cloud

Provides good technical support services, but it could be integrated with multiple load balancers
Pros and Cons

- "The product could support any network load balancer. At present, we can use only Amazon’s load balancer application."
What is our primary use case?
We use Amazon CloudFront to host web services. It helps us protect websites and provides an easy deployment for AWS WAF.
What is most valuable?
The product’s most valuable feature is the availability of the websites.

We have been using Amazon CloudFront for two to three years. At present, we use the latest version.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

How are customer service and support?
The technical support services are good.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
How was the initial setup?
We migrated from EC2 as an individual website towards Amazon CloudFront. The migration was straightforward as it is available in AWS itself. It took around two weeks for 150 websites. We had a team of 50-60 executives to work on the deployment.
