Instead of installing the product on each machine at each location, we just do it remotely
Pros and Cons
  • "The Remote Administrator is the most valuable feature that ESET offers for us. Centralized management of our ESET environment is what I like about the Remote Administrator."
  • "I would like more robust reporting as part of the Remote Administrator."

What is our primary use case?

It is an antivirus and firewall security solution for our environment, not just on clients, but also on servers.

How has it helped my organization?

To be able to control what files or viruses are being scanned from one location.

We get staff to notify us when something pops up on ESET, just to keep them cautiously aware of threats out there. It is nice to get phone calls or emails from colleagues who are not in IT, and are concerned, "Hey, a pop-up showed up and something got blocked." This helps keep our staff security awareness high.

What is most valuable?

The Remote Administrator is the most valuable feature that ESET offers for us. Centralized management of our ESET environment is what I like about the Remote Administrator.

What needs improvement?

I would like more robust reporting as part of the Remote Administrator.

For how long have I used the solution?

One to three years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The stability is great.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is very scalable. I was able to connect six different locations and authenticate them using the ESET Remote Administrator.

How are customer service and support?

The tech support is awesome. They have a robust forum for customers to find answers to questions that they can't get from their teams. Also, their customer technical support team works very well with any problems that we forward them.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We were using Norton before ESET. It was slowing our machines down, but then we also had old machines, as a university. Then, when we adopted ESET, it was a very strip-down software which didn't take up a lot of computer performance.

How was the initial setup?

There are two parts to setting it up:

  • Simple: Just install it on the client.
  • Complex: Send out all the remote agents to each device through the network, then the installation file through the network.

Installing was easy, but the setup was complex to get the remote installation working.

What about the implementation team?

ESET technical support helped me. It took eight hours with a conference call.

What was our ROI?

We have seen ROI.

Instead of installing ESET on each machine at each location, we just do it remotely. This has been a time saver for us.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The National University System dedicates 500 of their 5000 licenses to us, which is $14/yr per device. Most companies are paying $99 or $120 per device a year. With Norton, we were paying $40/yr per device. This cost reduction was another reason for switching vendors.

There is a cost when we need to extend, but ESET is great.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

The National University System (NUS) has been working with ESET for a couple of years. Because we are an affiliate under NUS, we inherited ESET.

We also have SonicWall and Barracuda on our shortlist of vendors.

What other advice do I have?

The product is versatile, and the company continues to bring out more products.

Before we installed the central management console, we were not able to pull any reports of how many threats were being blocked in our environment. So, we couldn't bargain a security budget with management without those reports and data of what is being blocked, showing how much we saved. Therefore, it improved our capabilities of asking for a security budget, as we collected the data that was coming in from all the client devices.

Context is louder than volume. You need the data in order to win your board.

Easier to set up, easier to use, and offers good detection
Pros and Cons
  • "The setup is getting easier."
  • "If you have issues with your network, you can't get updates, which is a problem."

What is our primary use case?

We use the solution for security and protection. It's got good antivirus capabilities.

What is most valuable?

From the last update, it's easier for me to use. It would be easier to just move with the license using the cloud. The detection is good.

We are moving away from machines and looking to be more online. We're looking at using SSD, so the drives are becoming smaller.

The setup is getting easier.

What needs improvement?

The updates have become smaller and smaller.

There have been issues with updating in the past. For example, updating from version seven to eight was a challenge.

If you have issues with your network, you can't get updates, which is a problem.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using the solution for more than a couple of years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I have not met any challenges in terms of resources. For me, it is unstable. I know with some other systems when we install it, it slows down the performance of the machine. It also takes away memory. It is not running perfectly. It should be running in the background quietly.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We've been able to update versions just fine. We moved from eight to nine with no issue. It was easy to scale.

We have about ten people with it running on Windows. However, we have some users that have migrated to Apple.

How are customer service and support?

I use local support in Zimbabwe when I need assistance.

Their reaction time if you have any incident is good. If you need advice or have any issues that you want to ask about, they actually give you assistance. They are okay. And they seem to know the product.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Neutral

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is simple yet also complex. It's gotten easier, however, a user would find it easier to manage the process if they've done it before or were knowledgable about the product.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The pricing is pretty fair. It's not too expensive.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I compared the solution against Avast. We found that Avast slows down machines.

What other advice do I have?

We are just end users and customers.

While we are on-premises right now, we are actually thinking of upgrading to the cloud so that it's easier to manage.

I'd rate the solution an eight out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

On-premises

A stable solution with good support that assists us with GDPR compliance
Pros and Cons
  • "The most valuable feature is that everything is done on the server."
  • "Sometimes the server console is very slow, so the performance could be improved."

What is our primary use case?

We have many projects that contain personal and confidential data that we have to protect. When we perform searches, we need to have the data encrypted because it protects our clients. It is also part of the GDPR compliance.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature is that everything is done on the server. When we send data to our clients, they cannot do anything that we do not allow.

What needs improvement?

Sometimes the server console is very slow, so the performance could be improved.

The documentation is in need of improvement.

Scalability needs to be improved because we have a lot of computers and it is affecting us.

A lot of spam emails still get through, so I think that this is an area that can be improved.

There is a bug with the licensing that has been a problem for at least a couple of years, which is something that they need to fix.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been using ESET Endpoint Encryption for the past four or five years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

This solution is very stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

With respect to scalability, this is something that ESET needs to improve. We have a lot of computers operating both onsite and offsite, and things such as the licensing are a problem for us. We have approximately 50 users.

How are customer service and technical support?

The technical support is very good. They are responsive and fast.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We were using Symantec Endpoint Protection prior to using ESET.

How was the initial setup?

My understanding is that the setup was not too complex. The solution was deployed in about two days.

What about the implementation team?

One of our administrators took care of the implementation.

One or two people are required for maintenance.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We evaluated many different solutions before settling on ESET.

What other advice do I have?

My advice to anybody who is implementing this solution is to have a good knowledge of what it is that you want to do. If all of the policies have been decided with respect to what you want to allow, and what you do not want to allow, then it will be easy to deploy this solution on all of the clients.

With any product, there is always something that can be improved.

I would rate this solution an eight out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

On-premises

A user-friendly solution for securing our corporate documents
Pros and Cons
  • "This solution can be centrally managed."
  • "I would like to see better compatibility with mobile devices."

What is our primary use case?

We primarily use this software for the protection of documents, both internal and those that we send out to clients.

What is most valuable?

This solution can be centrally managed.

The interface is user-friendly.

ESET will check to make sure that your operating system is up to date, which is one of the features that I really like. For example, if there is an update available from Microsoft and you have not done it, then it will remind you to get back on track.

What needs improvement?

The updates could be improved and also done more frequently.

I would like to see better compatibility with mobile devices. Most of the time, people are connecting to our server using their mobile device.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been using ESET Endpoint Encryption for between four and five years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

This solution is normally stable but sometimes, when Microsoft updates Windows, we have challenges.  For example, we had trouble with the Windows 10, 1909 update. However, since we completed the patch, there have been no major issues.

We use it on a daily basis for our corporate documents.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I would not say that it is easy to scale this application, at first, but it is manageable.

How are customer service and technical support?

I have been in contact with the local ESET support and I am happy with their service.

How was the initial setup?

The documentation and instructions are very basic and it is easy to set up. It takes 30 or 40 minutes to deploy on each machine.

What about the implementation team?

I found it user-friendly during the setup and you may only need to contact a consultant if you are getting stuck.

What other advice do I have?

ESET is a product that I recommend people switch to for encrypting their documents.

I would rate this solution an eight out of ten.

The scalability is good, it's perfect, I am satisfied.

We have three dozen users.

We only need one person to deployment and maintenance.

How are customer service and technical support?

I have contacted technical support and they are good.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Previously, I did not use any other solution.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was complex.

It took approximately one hour to deploy the encryption server.

What about the implementation team?

I was able to implement this solution myself.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Licensing costs are on a yearly basis.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I tested BitLocker and VeraCrypt.

What other advice do I have?

I would recommend this solution.

I would rate this solution a ten out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

On-premises

A stable solution which provides good visibility
Pros and Cons
  • "The initial setup is easy."
  • "The solution should have better synchronization with active directory users and passwords for use in the encryption."

What is most valuable?

The solution allows me to easily monitor the encryption and password management of multiple computers in my network and gives me visibility into user use.

What needs improvement?

The pricing is middling and could be a bit lower.

The solution should have better synchronization with active directory users and passwords for use in the encryption. A single sign-on would be useful.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using ESET Endpoint Encryption for around a half a year.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

So far we have had no problems with the solution's stability.

How are customer service and technical support?

As I am a partner of the ESET seller, I occasionally contact technical support, but not often.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is easy.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The pricing is mid-ranged and could be more cost-effective.

What other advice do I have?

I rate ESET Endpoint Encryption as an eight out of ten.
