Blocks threats and simplifies working with firewalls and IP restrictions
Pros and Cons
  • "GoodAccess has significantly improved security in our organization."
  • "The interface information could show more information about how threats have occurred. Right now, it only shows basic threat information."

What is our primary use case?

Our main use case for GoodAccess is to provide our technical team with a trusted network point-to-point between their team and the remote infrastructure. For this purpose, GoodAccess provides a gateway and a connector to our cloud provider that allows us to perform all kinds of operations with our infrastructure in a simple and secure way.

In addition, we use it for continuous browsing via a VPN gateway with threat security enhancing the security of all technical equipment.

All this combined with dual-factor access to all equipment is very good.

How has it helped my organization?

GoodAccess has significantly improved security in our organization.

First and foremost, access to the servers through SSH, RDP, or the database is much more secure. Within the cloud infrastructure, there is only one public subnet. The rest of the private accesses of the infrastructure are only accessible from the VPN.

The work of security administrators and the work of checking for unauthorized access has been greatly reduced. The number of unauthorized access attempts to critical private infrastructure is zero.

What is most valuable?

The feature we have found most valuable has been point-to-point protection.

The Cloud Connector allows you to connect your private cloud networks to the GoodAccess Gateway. In our case, we directly connect the cloud connector to the AWS VPN so you actually have point-to-point security from the developer's computer to the application server or data center.

Working with the gateway provides us with a dedicated IP that simplifies working with firewalls and IP restrictions.

Threats that can be blocked also in order to provide extra security for worker connections.

The speed of work under the VPN is similar to the speed of the network without the VPN.

What needs improvement?

There are some improvements needed. These are really minor improvements, generally related to interface details that do not influence our GoodAccess purchasing decision.

The interface information could show more information about how threats have occurred. Right now, it only shows basic threat information.

Traffic through the gateway could also be improved.

Also, the traffic passing through the cloud connection to the infrastructure could be more detailed. On certain occasions, in our case, AWS sends a connectivity loss notification that is not reflected in the GoodAccess activity dashboard.

Pros and Cons
  • "GoodAccess VPN has brought a transformative shift to our organization, notably enhancing collaboration and enabling seamless remote work."
  • "The installable app's occasional bugs have caused disruptions for some users, impacting smooth usage."

What is our primary use case?

We started using GoodAccess during COVID, when our entire workforce started working from home. They were a good price point compared to their competition and one of the only ones that allowed for a small team and use a fixed IP Address.

During COVID, GoodAccess was a lifesaver for our company and without them, we simply would not have been able to work. The VPN is very simple to set up, using either the GoodAccess application or by exporting OpenVPN configuration files.

Some of the new features such as threat detection and mapping connections have been amazing and very well done.

All in all, it is a very good company to use when VPN access is required.

How has it helped my organization?

GoodAccess has brought a transformative shift to our organization, notably enhancing collaboration and enabling seamless remote work. With its array of features, our team of ten can securely access internal servers using fixed IP addresses, guaranteeing uninterrupted access to hosted websites, even when working remotely. The proactive threat alerts have significantly bolstered our security framework, shielding us from potential risks and cyber threats.

Furthermore, the real-world location tracking feature has instilled an additional layer of accountability and authenticity in remote work scenarios. The convenience of mobile apps has added an extra dimension to our productivity, permitting flexible work while upholding data security standards.

As a result of this, our organization seamlessly transitioned to a work-from-home model, a crucial adaptation during the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

What is most valuable?

With GoodAccess, several standout features have proven invaluable.

The fixed IP feature ensures a secure connection to internal servers, minimizing vulnerabilities.

Enhances our operational efficiency and collaboration and helps with compliance
Pros and Cons
  • "We love the simple interface and speed and reliability of the system."
  • "It would be useful to see the weekly usage information within the program itself and a dashboard for all usage data."

What is our primary use case?

GoodAccess enables our remote workforce to access databases that are restricted to US IP addresses. This capability not only helps with collaboration with our international staff members but also helps with our overall compliance objectives.

By using GoodAccess we push all traffic through this platform and this way it stays compliant. GoodAccess not only empowers our global team to contribute and also aids us in maintaining a cohesive and compliant system infrastructure.

It has helped tremendously in cutting down on database complaints associated with non-US IP addresses.

How has it helped my organization?

GoodAccess has proven to be an extremely important tool for our company, enhancing our operational efficiency and collaboration amongst our international and outsourced staff. By enabling our distributed team members to access critical resources that were once restricted to US IP addresses, the platform has helped us generate more recruitment volume.

GoodAccess' consolidation of all traffic within our system has simplified our IT security concerns. This has resulted in more efficient data flow, reduced complexities, and enhanced system management. With GoodAccess as a central access point, we've experienced improved resource allocation and a heightened ability to regulate data usage.

What is most valuable?

We love the simple interface and speed and reliability of the system. The simple interface has dropped most tech challenges we encountered with our other previous systems. We also appreciate that it provides in-depth usage reports that give us prime insights into what our international staff uses the system for.

This has helped with compliance and operational inefficiencies. We are very excited to see what effect any new features will have on our organization. So far nothing but positive things to say.

What needs improvement?

We would like to see the option to have multiple IP or VPN access servers. It would be nice to be able to toggle between a couple. This would be very helpful because sometimes we have use cases where it would be useful to be able to test websites from different regions. It also allows us to track indirectly amongst team members if they are using different VPN access points.

I also find that it would be useful to see the weekly usage information within the program itself and a dashboard for all usage data.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been using GoodAccess for about two years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The product is very stable and it is constantly being updated.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

There is massive scalability here with this software. This is due to the fact that it is very simple and is packaged for simple usage.

Great static IP with a stable agent and access control
Pros and Cons
  • "Access control allows us to manage permissions efficiently, ensuring secure and tailored access."
  • "The product could improve by extending its chat support beyond 8-5 CET, Monday to Friday, to a 24/7 service for better accessibility and immediate assistance."

What is our primary use case?

Our main use case for this solution is ensuring a stable internet connection.

Our applications perform best when connected to the VPN. The static VPN is vital in our security groups, allowing access by whitelisting its IP. In a broader sense, this setup boosts our operational efficiency and ensures a safer environment for our systems and data.

The VPN's stability and its role in securing our network against threats are crucial within our environment, ensuring optimal performance and a secure pathway for data transmission.

How has it helped my organization?

GoodAccess has significantly enhanced our organization by resolving a persistent challenge. Previously, we faced constant struggles adapting to the dynamic IP addresses from our ISP, necessitating frequent modifications in security rules.

This often led to tool malfunctions due to unstable connections. However, since implementing GoodAccess, these issues have ceased. Its stable connectivity and ability to manage dynamic IPs seamlessly have streamlined our operations.

Now, we experience fewer disruptions, ensuring our tools remain functional, and security rules stay consistent despite IP changes. As a result, GoodAccess has remarkably improved our efficiency and reliability.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable features in GoodAccess for us are the static IP, stable agent, Microsoft SSO, MFA, and access control.

The static IP ensures consistent access, which is crucial for our security setup. The stable, well-built agent guarantees reliable connectivity, reducing downtime.

Microsoft SSO and MFA enhance security by simplifying login and adding layers of authentication.

Access control allows us to manage permissions efficiently, ensuring secure and tailored access.

Overall, these features collectively fortify our network, streamline access, and significantly bolster our organization's security posture.

What needs improvement?

The product could improve by extending its chat support beyond 8-5 CET, Monday to Friday, to a 24/7 service for better accessibility and immediate assistance.

Additionally, integrating the WireGuard protocol into the agent and providing a WireGuard tunnel option would enhance the product's versatility and security, meeting the needs of users seeking this specific protocol for improved connectivity and data protection.

These enhancements would elevate the product's overall appeal and functionality, catering to a wider range of users and their preferences for support availability and advanced security protocols.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've used the solution for one year and seven months.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The product doesn't give us issues; it connects quickly and is stable throughout.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution is scalable; you can add more licenses as your team increases.

How are customer service and support?

Support is good, and happy to help. The issue is that availability is limited.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We did not use a different solution previously.

How was the initial setup?

The setup is straightforward; they assisted us with the Microsoft SSO.

What about the implementation team?

We handled the setup in-house and got some help from the support team.

What was our ROI?

We witnessed an ROI after about three months. It offers good value for money.

Easy to use and implement with good support
Pros and Cons
  • "The solution has easy-to-use administration and offers an easy implementation."
  • "The price tier is not suited for small teams."

What is our primary use case?

We use the Virtual Private Network (VPN) for remote work. We have both offices at different locations and also team members working from home. The requirements for security are equal independent of the location. We use Windows, MacOS, and Linux environments.

GoodAccess replaces an OpenVPN Server solution that we at first had on-premise and that required a location with a public static IP address. We later moved this installation to cloud hosting, but the price and maintenance made us look for a complete service - and GoodAccess was a match.

How has it helped my organization?

With this solution, we can focus on what is important, wherever we are.
Earlier, we spent time on maintaining an internal VPN server. The cheapest solution was the on-premise solution with an OpenVPN server, however, our ISP suddenly put a huge price tag for static IP.

We moved the server to a cloud host yet we spent too much time managing the platform. We also realized that global access could be an issue with a self-hosted VPN server. GoodAccess has this covered as part of their platform, i.e. you can set up multiple VPN entries/proxies in different countries.

What is most valuable?

The solution has easy-to-use administration and offers an easy implementation. We have users coming and going and GoodAccess makes it simple to manage this.

Earlier we had very complicated license management since we ditched the open-source version of our OpenVPN server. When users were coming and going we spent a lot of time setting up their profiles again. Also, the installation on the client is much easier with GoodAccess since all users have their own login to the admin web page and can self-service their installation.

What needs improvement?

The price tier is not suited for small teams. The lowest price tier for teams includes too many features. It would be better to pay for the features you really need.

The features of the platform have changed. Our initial requirement was just a static IP address but over the years we have expanded our use case and now use more features. That said, in the price tier there is included lot of stuff that we find irrelevant.

Adding a single user to the tier instead would be ideal. Our tier has too many users. Our needs never exceed five active users at the same time.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've used the solution for three years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The uptime is really good. There has been no major downtime in three years.

How are customer service and support?

Technical support is very helpful and quick.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We used a self-hosted OpenVPN server.

What was our ROI?

We pay more in monetary terms with this solution than before. That said, the fact that it just works and we can focus on the real work we do. That makes the ROI for us.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

If you want a solution that just works and you are willing to pay a premium price for it, this is the solution you are looking for.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We evaluated others three years ago. There was a lot of competition at that time.

What other advice do I have?

So far the solution has been good. At this point, we do not bother evaluating other solutions.

Flexible, allows for site-to-site VPN tunnels, and provides minimal latency
Pros and Cons
  • "GoodAccess was the only hosted VPN solution we found for a reasonable cost that allowed us to establish a site-to-site VPN network for hundreds of locations across the country."
  • "The logs do not go back very far."

What is our primary use case?

We use GoodAccess as a site-to-site VPN service only. There are hundreds of sites located all across the country using different ISP and we had to find a way to connect them together for A/V streaming and video conferencing as well as to remotely access the equipment. Due to video conferencing, the bandwidth had to be high and latency/jitter low. It was challenging to find a consistent way to connect them all together without a VPN until we found GoodAccess

We also wanted to use our own Mikrotik and Teltonika routers as the VPN client/endpoints. Now all sites are linked by VPN using OpenVPN and IKEv2 with private static IP addresses so we can easily connect as needed and establish video conferencing calls over the network.

How has it helped my organization?

GoodAccess was the only hosted VPN solution we found for a reasonable cost that allowed us to establish a site-to-site VPN network for hundreds of locations across the country.

When we first contacted them, the founders of the company got involved to help customize the solution for us as needed. We had a free trial first to make sure everything worked before committing to an annual contract. Other VPN providers did not offer this sort of service and it was too expensive for us to set up our own VPN gateway equipment.

What is most valuable?

The ability to connect routers to the VPN and the flexibility to allow site-to-site VPN tunnels was why we chose GoodAccess for our needs.

Instead of using computers to directly connect to the VPN, we use Mikrotik and Teltonika routers at remote sites with OpenVPN and IKEv2 connections.

GoodAccess allowed us to establish a private IP network so all the equipment at our sites can communicate securely over the VPN via private IP addresses (172.24.0.0 network). There are gateways located worldwide but we appreciate there is one located in our country for minimal latency.

What needs improvement?

The logs do not go back very far. This can be difficult to review past usage. It would be nice if we had the option to increase the log retention for maybe up to a year. Alternatively, we just download the logs each month so we have our own copy. Some users may not want logs so this should be an option only.

It would also be nice if we could search the user/member list with more fields such as the private IP address as currently there is no way to do that or export the list. We have had to keep our own list of IP addresses to usernames as a result.

Any of the improvements are just for ease of use mainly, we cannot think of any improvements as to how the networking actually works.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've used the solution for one to two years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

There have been very few outages and the one that did occur was very quickly resolved when we contacted their support

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I have no concerns over the solution scaling to our needs. We currently have 100 sites connected and are planning to expand up to 500 sites.

How are customer service and support?

Their support is truly 24/7; even if you have to send an email they get back to you very quickly.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I did not previously use a different solution.

How was the initial setup?

The setup of the service was very easy. The most complicated part was configuring our routers, however, GoodAccess even provided an example script for our Mikrotik routers that only needed minor modifications for our needs.

There was no sample for our Teltonika RUT routers. That said, we were able to determine the correct configuration with standard OpenVPN configuration files and only minor changes.

What about the implementation team?

We implemented it with the help of an in-house consultant.

What was our ROI?

We've witnessed ROI within one to two years.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Don't be afraid to ask GoodAccess for technical advice or customization for your solution. When we first started we were concerned the default IP subnet they provided might be too small so they increased it for us. Their support team is very knowledgeable and may be able to provide advice on configuring your VPN endpoints.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We looked at several other VPN providers such as NordVPN and Express, and also considered setting up our own VPN gateway using Cisco, Juniper, or Mikrotik hardware.

What other advice do I have?

I really like GoodAccess - it should be called 'Great' access! When I first contacted them about our use case one of the founders got personally involved and helped us with a free trial so we could make sure it worked for us before committing to an annual contract.

Good access controls, configurability, and simple to use
Pros and Cons
  • "GoodAccess simplified our infrastructure and how we interact with clients."
  • "This past year, I did not like having to purchase an upgrade to a plan with a minimum number of seats to get the features we needed. We do not use all of the seats."

What is our primary use case?

We needed to find a replacement VPN for our distributed team. We use GoodAccess to simplify our network management needs. By configuring systems within the GoodAccess dashboard, we are able to simplify the deployment of new systems or changes to our current systems.

We wanted to have the ability to use port forwarding which GoodAccess provides. There were several other features that we did not end up using to their fullest extent due to our needs being different, however, I am sure that the entire application is made with the highest quality and care.

How has it helped my organization?

With other VPNs that we have used, the interface was difficult or the VPN did not allow split tunneling or one of the other features that we needed as an organization. We needed to reduce the cost of our VPN solution and simplify the setup of new team members.

GoodAccess simplified our infrastructure and how we interact with clients. With its feature set, it has also made it easier on the budget too.

The interface is simple and intuitive to use so setup is also quicker and easier. Overall it has been a good move.

What is most valuable?

We primarily use GoodAccess as a VPN provider. Over the years since subscribing to GoodAccess though and as they have expanded their feature set, we have implemented a few other features.

I like the ability to configure the shared system in a central location that I can then open up to specific team members as they need access. Port forwarding has also been a feature that we have used recently to help configure SSH access to internal systems.

I like the ability to centrally determine access controls with the access control tab in the dashboard.

What needs improvement?

When we first subscribed to GoodAccess, the cost was per seat, and that worked best for our situation. Many other VPN providers had minimum seat requirements to be able to access specific features. This past year, I did not like having to purchase an upgrade to a plan with a minimum number of seats to get the features we needed. We do not use all of the seats, so it feels like that could be a better experience for the customers. Small businesses sometimes need features in a VPN solution that bigger companies typically use, however, without the number of seats.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've used the solution for two or more years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Overall, it has been very dependable. There have been a couple of hiccups in the service. That said, it is good overall.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It has been as scalable as we have needed to both increase or decrease our team size.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We previously used NordLayer VPN.

What was our ROI?

It has been well worth the investment.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I'd advise other users to get what they need and nothing more.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We evaluated NordVPN, TorGuard VPN Service, Cisco AnyConnect, OpenVPN, Perimeter 81, ExpressVPN, TunnelBear, and PureVPN.

User-friendly with a good interface and can bypass geographical IP restrictions seamlessly
Pros and Cons
  • "It has become an integral part of our remote work toolkit, as it enables us to overcome USA IP restrictions, ensuring our global teams can collaborate effectively."
  • "Currently, the pricing structure is functional yet could benefit from more refined scalability calculations."

What is our primary use case?

Our primary use case for GoodAccess is to facilitate seamless remote work for our globally distributed team. The developer, the front-end dev, the tester (myself), and the project manager are all living in different countries. Some of our agency's clients have imposed IP restrictions limited to the USA. Conventional VPNs often struggle to overcome these barriers. However, with GoodAccess, our team experiences secure and rapid access to our client's websites from any location. This capability enhances our productivity, enabling us to deliver high-quality results.

How has it helped my organization?

With members located in various countries, including Argentina like me, and facing IP blocking challenges from clients, we struggled with traditional VPN solutions. GoodAccess, however, proved to be the answer to our problems.

It has become an integral part of our remote work toolkit, as it enables us to overcome USA IP restrictions, ensuring our global teams can collaborate effectively.

This solution's user-friendly interface and ease of navigation made the transition seamless. We now have exclusive fixed IPs, ensuring secure access for remote developers and freelancers.

What is most valuable?

One of the most invaluable features of GoodAccess, especially for teams operating across the globe like ours, is its ability to bypass geographical IP restrictions seamlessly.

Furthermore, the user interface of GoodAccess is remarkably user-friendly and easy to navigate. This simplicity is a crucial asset, especially for teams with varying levels of technical expertise. It sets a low bar for understanding proper usage, making it incredibly straightforward for users to connect and access resources securely.

What needs improvement?

While GoodAccess offers a host of valuable features, there are areas where it could see improvements, with the pricing model being one such aspect. Currently, the pricing structure is functional yet could benefit from more refined scalability calculations.

For smaller organizations, typically comprising two to ten individuals, GoodAccess provides a highly competitive and user-friendly solution that meets their needs effectively. However, as a company grows, the scalability of the pricing model becomes a more prominent factor.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've used the solution for two years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

This is a very stable solution.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We previously used VeeVPN and PureVPN. They didn't work well in my country.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I'd advise others to test with the trial first.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I did not evaluate other options.
