What do I think about the stability of the solution?

This solution is stable. We are still in the evaluation stage, but it is being used on a daily basis.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We have two sites, each with three nodes in a cluster. Beyond that, we have not tested scalability.

How are customer service and support?

The technical support from Nutanix is great.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We are currently in the process of migrating from VMware to Nutanix.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is easy. Our deployment took three days to complete.

What about the implementation team?

We asked the vendor to support us for our implementation and deployment.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Compared to VMware, the price of this solution is great.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We were looking into using Oracle PCA because one of our main objectives is to have a disaster recovery site on the cloud. This means that what we have installed, and whatever workloads are running, need to be replicated in the cloud. The best choices that we found for this were Oracle PCA, Nutanix, and VMware.

Ultimately, we found some limitations in Oracle PCA. Between Nutanix and VMware, they had similar features but Nutanix is less costly.

What other advice do I have?

Overall, this product is a good choice. You get a lot of features at a lower price.

I would rate this solution a nine out of ten.

Data operations management solution that offers affordable pricing and comprehensive documentation
Pros and Cons
  • "Nutanix is a HCA product and includes VMware called Nutanix Express that has been fantastic for us. We have about 100 plus VMs without any trouble and we have VCDR."
  • "The replication we have does not have any backup systems built-in. We have to separate license records for backup, like onboard. We would like to have this in a future release."

What is our primary use case?

We have 20 customers using this solution.

What is most valuable?

Nutanix is a HCA product and includes VMware called Nutanix Express that has been fantastic for us. We have about 100 plus VMs without any trouble and we have VCDR.

What needs improvement?

The replication we have does not have any backup systems built-in. We have to separate license records for backup, like onboard. We would like to have this in a future release.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using this solution for three years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

This is a stable solution.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

This is a scalable solution.

How are customer service and support?

Globally, they have many sites to evaluate from a support perspective. We have found that Nutanix have 90% plus customer support rating. In the past six years, they have been in the top of the Gartner report.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was straightforward but we did get help from Nutanix in this regard and raised tickets whenever we faced any issues.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Nutanix have bundles for pricing. On a single bundle, we get everything including vSAN or VMware and there are no additional costs. It is just a single license that is needed.

What other advice do I have?

I would recommend Nutanix based on its stability and support. The Nutanix site have extensive documentation so this makes it easy to self learn about this solution.

I would rate this solution an eight out of ten.

Has improved performance for our virtual desktops and is easy to manage
Pros and Cons
  • "Since we began using Nutanix the performance for virtual desktops is much better."
  • "The main area where an improvement could be made would be the pricing."

What is our primary use case?

I work as an ICT System Administrator in a tertiary institution and Nutanix is the platform we use for virtual desktop, VDI. We have approximately 200 members using the solution in addition to which we also have 350 students. The students only use it on a floating desktop pool, not concurrently.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature would be performance. Since we began using Nutanix the performance for virtual desktops is much better. It's easy to manage Nutanix with no downtime during periods of maintenance. There has also been a big improvement in the dashboard which is now very easy compared to earlier solutions.

What needs improvement?

The main area where an improvement could be made would be the pricing. Aside from that, it's a very good product.

An additional feature that could be included would be to make an easy connection to closed systems such as Azure.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using Nutanix for five years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The product has excellent stability.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It's very easy to scale because it's a cluster. We started with four nodes then add a fifth to add a vision computer. There were no issues and no down time.

How are customer service and technical support?

Customer support has improved a lot since the early days.

What other advice do I have?

I would advise others using VDI to add All-Flash clusters, so no ordinary disk, but All-Flash disks for performance. That's something I would suggest, but that is more specific for VDI environments.

I would rate this product a nine out of 10.

Can be used for building a private cloud solution, but its stability could be improved
Pros and Cons
  • "Nutanix Prism's dashboard is very simple, and you don't need much knowledge to use it."
  • "Nutanix Prism can be more stable because it's not as stable as VMware."

What is our primary use case?

We use Nutanix Prism for building a private cloud solution.

How has it helped my organization?

Nutanix Prism has made our organization's administration simple.

What is most valuable?

The dashboard is very simple, and you don't need much knowledge to use it.

What needs improvement?

Nutanix Prism can be more stable because it's not as stable as VMware. The playbook or autopilot feature you can set on Nutanix should be decreased. The autopilot feature only runs every hour and doesn't fulfill most customers' requirements.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Nutanix Prism is not that stable. Once you install a VMware, it runs smoothly, and you don't need to upgrade it until two or three years. However, you might have to upgrade Nutanix Prism every year.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Nutanix Prism is a very scalable solution.

How are customer service and support?

Nutanix Prism's technical support team is quite good, and they meet their SLAs.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

A big advantage of VMware is that it runs on everything and is not dependent on the hardware. You can install ESXi anywhere, which is a big advantage with VMware. However, Nutanix Prism needs SCI-supported hardware like an m2 drive.

How was the initial setup?

Nutanix Prism's initial setup is very easy.

What about the implementation team?

The whole deployment was completed in one or two days. Two people are enough to deploy the solution.

Nutanix Prism does not require major maintenance, but the solution may sometimes face software-based issues. Sometimes, the DIMM might degrade, or SSD might go down, but such issues will be resolved in a day.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Nutanix Prism is quite an expensive solution compared to VMware. However, if you get all the products of VMware, then that would be provided on Nutanix at a lesser price.

What other advice do I have?

We use the solution's features like micro-segmentation, NSX, and SRM. The solution has a self-service provisioning system where you can create a separate cloud where people will login and use resources as per their needs and as we provide them. It's like a private cloud experience where you can build a cloud as well.

Nutanix Prism's performance is quite good. One of our customers is using Nutanix Prism, and they also did a case study for the solution describing how much it has improved.

Nutanix Prism offers a single pane of glass user experience for us. The administrators or anyone using a product want it to be simple, and Nutanix Prism is a simple solution.

It's very easy to utilize the Nutanix Prism user interface for compute, storage, and networking. Once you walk through it, it's much easier than any virtual box.

We use Nutanix for automation. The solution's no-code process for visually building automation is a very good feature. Autoscaling the VM, taking snapshots, generating any info, and acting upon that is very easy with Nutanix Prism.

The network visibility and micro-segmentation of Nutanix Prism work quite well, and it's also easy.

Its ability to optimize performance with machine learning and AI is quite good. The capacity planning and forecasting features of the solution are very handy. Capacity planning can be used, and you can see all the forecasts of what is happening with the resources and how many resources we might need in the future. It would recommend how much more resources would be needed if the workloads were increased.

Nutanix Prism has helped improve the efficiency of our customer's IT management environment.

It has helped improve the efficiency of our organization’s help desk operations.

Nutanix Prism has helped improve the efficiency of our organization's data protection teams. The local snapshot is really good in Nutanix Prism and can be used as a backup. VMware's snapshot is not a backup, but Nutanix Prism's snapshot is a backup, which is quite useful.

Nutanix has released many security patches, but attacks usually come on the ESXi environment. We haven't faced any kind of security vulnerability risk on Nutanix Prism. Every time something comes up, we check it, and there might be some vulnerability on ESXi that we need to patch. Nutanix should work on its security more because, often, the attacks on any server system would be on the ESXi.

The best thing would be for users to first try out what they need before getting the solution.

Overall, I rate Nutanix Prism a seven out of ten.

High performance with an unlimited snapshot capacity that produces backups in minutes
Pros and Cons
  • "The solution is a high-performance platform that effectively handles three-layered issues like SA and network fiber cables."
  • "The solution does not support creating hybrid disc clusters."

What is our primary use case?

Our company provides infrastructure as a service to our customers and the solution is used on top of our platform to streamline workflows.

What is most valuable?

The solution is a high-performance platform that effectively handles three-layered issues like SA and network fiber cables.

The snapshot capability is a big advantage because it processes within minutes and is not limited by a virtual server's storage capacity. We are able to provide immediate backups to customers.

What needs improvement?

PaaS services are a bit complex to implement so should be strengthened and developed. We struggled to integrate so did not have the courage to implement PaaS services. The process should be easier to understand.

The solution does not support creating hybrid disc clusters that include SSD disc configuration servers with hybrid disc configuration servers in the same cluster.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using the solution for four years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

We are very happy with the stability provided for our cluster of 60 servers.

We struggle every day with hardware or server issues in our clusters. If a server hub breaks, the solution handles the problematic case very successfully.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution is scalable and I rate it a ten out of ten.

How are customer service and support?

Three senior engineers handle all level two and level three issues that require technical support. The support team has access to our cluster for any troubleshooting needed.

Technical support has one of the smallest yet knowledgeable teams in the market. They are very fast and provide excellent support.

I rate technical support a ten out of ten.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is easy and takes about four hours.

Our business has grown so we add fifteen servers per year to our cluster with no issues. It takes about five days to add these new servers.

What about the implementation team?

Our internal team of four engineers handled the initial implementation.

We now have ten engineers on staff who handle daily operations which includes setup and implementation for our customers.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The pricing is based on a licensing model and is around $10,000 for a two-year license. As we buy more servers, we receive license discounts.

Two years ago, the solution was costly because Turkey was in a financial crisis and Lira exchange rates were high so the two-year license was $15,000.

What other advice do I have?

I rate the solution an eight out of ten.

Easy setup process, but confusing database configuration and poor support
Pros and Cons
  • "One valuable aspect of Nutanix Prism is how easy it is to set up. The setup process is useful to us because all we need to do is to set some variables and go with the recommended settings."
  • "We definitely have some issues with Nutanix Prism. Our main issue is that we cannot operate the database. It would seem that less configuration would be desirable, because between Nutanix and the Oracle database on Windows, there tends to be problems."

What is our primary use case?

We are using the core application of Nutanix, Nutanix AOS, with Prism for the application side of things. It is used specifically for its hyper-converged functionality, but not for anything database-related.

What is most valuable?

One valuable aspect of Nutanix Prism is how easy it is to set up. The setup process is useful to us because all we need to do is to set some variables and go with the recommended settings.

What needs improvement?

We definitely have some issues with Nutanix Prism. Our main issue is that we cannot operate the database. It would seem that less configuration would be desirable, because between Nutanix and the Oracle database on Windows, there tends to be problems. When we took our initial problems with the database to Nutanix support, they gave us some configurations to try out, but these did not solve anything.

So the problems remain, and that is why we are only using Nutanix Prism for our application. We didn't have the time to find a working configuration for the database, and thus we migrated the database to another solution.

Their support seems to have some problems, too, because when we opened a ticket the one time, the lower level of support connected to take the ticket and the technician said that it was a false positive, meaning that they could not reference the error. However, Prism clearly stated to us that there was an error, despite the technician checking the system and telling us, "No, there are no more errors." I wanted the technician to clarify what had happened, but he merely told me the fault is inaccessible.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Nutanix Prism for three years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It is stable, but we tend not to overload the system in any way.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We can't really depend on Nutanix Prism, so we are currently just using it for non-essential work in our site.

How are customer service and support?

The support is bad because they take too long to solve issues, and in one instance they dismissed an error we got from Prism as a false positive for no obvious reason.

How was the initial setup?

The setup is useful because there are a few variables that we have to input, and then we simply proceed with the recommended settings. The overall time to deploy depends somewhat on Nutanix, but with a Nutanix cluster of 11 nodes on the site, plus the hypervisor, it will take around seven to ten hours.

What about the implementation team?

In general, we have just two technicians using Nutanix.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

We have spent a lot of money on the Nutanix solution with Prism. Yet, for this amount of money we could be buying high-end storage with a lot of IOPS and bandwidth, even more than with Nutanix.

What other advice do I have?

I cannot truly recommend Nutanix Prism for others. It was just the one time for us, and in the future we will use another solution because it seems that whatever hyper-converged system we might use, like VMware's vSAN or Nutanix, will still have a lot of issues with either the application or database.

Thus, for us, we may return to a more standard solution such as hardware-based storage with our own servers, rather than software-defined solutions. We have spent a lot of money on the Nutanix solution that could have been better spent elsewhere, such as on high-end storage with plenty of IOPS and bandwidth.

I would rate Nutanix Prism a five out of ten.

Sufficient for everyday operations, perfect support, and good for dynamic infrastructures
Pros and Cons
  • "I like the general usability for general configuration. It is sufficient for everyday operations."
  • "The life cycle management or LCM feature is the most complicated. It takes really long and is unpredictable for our use cases. They should provide more detailed information about the kind of LCM to go for, various errors, and different kinds of tasks. For analytics for certain configurations, we require more details with the report. Sometimes, not all elements are present for support, management, and configuration. For troubleshooting, it would be very easy and useful if we can analyze log files directly from Prism, that is, not from the command line but directly from Prism."

What is our primary use case?

We manage the basic infrastructure with Prism and Prism Control.

What is most valuable?

I like the general usability for general configuration. It is sufficient for everyday operations.

What needs improvement?

The life cycle management or LCM feature is the most complicated. It takes really long and is unpredictable for our use cases. They should provide more detailed information about the kind of LCM to go for, various errors, and different kinds of tasks.

For analytics for certain configurations, we require more details with the report. Sometimes, not all elements are present for support, management, and configuration.

For troubleshooting, it would be very easy and useful if we can analyze log files directly from Prism, that is, not from the command line but directly from Prism.

How are customer service and technical support?

Their technical support is perfect. They provide very fast answers to every problem. The solution is generally provided on the same day.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

When compared with VMware, it is an overpriced solution for basic features, but for a highly complex project, its price very adequate.

What other advice do I have?

It is a very complex solution with many different functionalities. Prism Element is for enterprises of any size. In Prism Pro or Prism Ultimate, the functionality is a bit locked to the company size and the IT infrastructure size. You don't always need a very big installation for a big business. I would advise others to use Prism Central because Prism Element does not have all the required management features that Prism Central has.

I would recommend this solution for all organizations planning to build infrastructure for any size and change. It is easy for changes in size or functionality.

I would rate Nutanix Prism a nine out of ten.

Easier to use than other products and highly scalable
Pros and Cons
  • "Nutanix Prism is very simple to use compared to other products. I have tried a number of tools, including VMware ESXi. Nutanix Prism is much simpler to use and we feel data transfers in it are very fast."
  • "One problem I faced when creating a VM and adding a hard disk to is that Nutanix Prism did not allow me to reduce that VM's hard disk."

What is our primary use case?

Our primary use case for Nutanix Prism is deploying web servers.

What is most valuable?

Nutanix Prism is very simple to use compared to other products. I have tried a number of tools, including VMware ESXi. Nutanix Prism is much simpler to use and we feel data transfers in it are very fast. That's why we approached them originally.

What needs improvement?

One problem I faced when creating a VM and adding a hard disk is that Nutanix Prism did not allow me to reduce that VM's hard disk. This is an issue because I could not find a solution.

Also, in a session I had with Nutanix Prism today, I was told that they are going to include Kubernetes deployment in the next release. That is a good approach from my perspective. It's important for solutions to stay on the cutting edge.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using this solution since March, so for about a year.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Nutanix Prism is scalable. On a scale of one to five, I give it a 4.5 for scalability.

How are customer service and support?

The Nutanix Prism technical support is good. Whenever we have tried to reach them in the past, they have been available for us. I am satisfied with the technical support Nutanix Prism provides.

How was the initial setup?

The initial Nutanix Prism deployment was straightforward. We did not run into any issues. We created the CVM easily and deployed it on the cloud. We did this with the help of a Nutanix Prism support person from India.

What other advice do I have?

Nutanix Prism is a good solution. It is better than other products. I recommend it.
