We manage the basic infrastructure with Prism and Prism Control.
BDM (Technical) at Softprom by ERC
Sufficient for everyday operations, perfect support, and good for dynamic infrastructures
Pros and Cons
- "I like the general usability for general configuration. It is sufficient for everyday operations."
- "The life cycle management or LCM feature is the most complicated. It takes really long and is unpredictable for our use cases. They should provide more detailed information about the kind of LCM to go for, various errors, and different kinds of tasks. For analytics for certain configurations, we require more details with the report. Sometimes, not all elements are present for support, management, and configuration. For troubleshooting, it would be very easy and useful if we can analyze log files directly from Prism, that is, not from the command line but directly from Prism."

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
When compared with VMware, it is an overpriced solution for basic features, but for a highly complex project, its price very adequate.
What other advice do I have?
It is a very complex solution with many different functionalities. Prism Element is for enterprises of any size. In Prism Pro or Prism Ultimate, the functionality is a bit locked to the company size and the IT infrastructure size. You don't always need a very big installation for a big business. I would advise others to use Prism Central because Prism Element does not have all the required management features that Prism Central has.
I would recommend this solution for all organizations planning to build infrastructure for any size and change. It is easy for changes in size or functionality.
I would rate Nutanix Prism a nine out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises

Enables use of multiple operating systems; data duplication and compression work in a hybrid solution
Pros and Cons
- "Duplication and compression work for data in a hybrid solution."
- "No integration of commands to manage AHV."
What is our primary use case?
We are a company that provides services to our clients so the solution is not deployed in our company. I've deployed Nutanix in multiple environments. When deploying Nutanix, Prism is installed automatically when you create a cluster. It assists in monitoring and managing the solution.
We're service providers, selling and deploying the solution to our customers. We partner with Nutanix and I'm a technical leader.
What is most valuable?
It's helpful that you can create virtual machines using Prism, you can upgrade and replicate the firmware between two different sites using Prism Element, it's not only for monitors. The duplication and compression are good features because they also work for data in a hybrid solution. Without that, compression and duplication require a whole flash stick which increases the cost. With Nutanix it can be done even if you use a hybrid solution. You can also use multiple operating systems with Nutanix.
What needs improvement?
The solution could be improved if you combined Nutanix with AHV, because when you install Prism to manage AHV, there are a lot of commands. It might be better to integrate the commands with Prism and that would enable Prism to manage AHV. This is not currently in the command line.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've been using this solution for two years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Initially we had some issues with bugs in NTP because all of the environments use NTP servers with Windows not Linux. Regular maintenance of the solution requires one person.
How are customer service and technical support?
The technical support at Nutanix is excellent, they've been extremely helpful.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is very straightforward, you can deploy it in two hours, create a cluster with three nodes and with an operating system installed on it within two hours.
What other advice do I have?
This is a great product, easy to deploy and very stable. Even if you are using VMware or Hyper V or AHV on Nutanix, it's very stable.
I would rate this solution a nine out of 10.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
Hybrid Cloud

Reasonably priced with quick cloning of virtual machines and a helpful hyper-convergence feature
Pros and Cons
- "For me, the speed of cloning virtual machines and the hyper-convergence feature are the most valuable aspects of the solution."
- "The solution should offer the ability to change network settings without removing the network card from the virtual machine."
What is our primary use case?
We primarily use the solution for virtualization for virtual machines, including the Windows virtual machines in Linux.
What is most valuable?
For me, the speed of cloning virtual machines and the hyper-convergence feature are the most valuable aspects of the solution.
The solution is quite stable.
The pricing is fair. It doesn't strike me as being overly expensive.
What needs improvement?
The solution should offer the ability to change network settings without removing the network card from the virtual machine.
I don't know the solution very well. I need more time to really explore it. What I need may already be available.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've been using the solution for six months.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
While the average stability is good, I find that the upgrade process of all the components of Nutanix are too slow.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
I've never tried to scale the product. I can't speak to how easy or difficult it would be to do so.
We have maybe 200 people utilizing the product right now. It's used regularly, on a daily basis.
How are customer service and support?
I've never had to reach out to technical support and therefore cannot speak to how helpful or responsive they are. I don't have any insights to share.
How was the initial setup?
I did not install the solution myself. I can't speak to any direct insights into how easy or difficult the process was. By the time I came along, everything was already up and running.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The pricing of the product seems to be reasonable.
What other advice do I have?
The company I currently work for may have a relationship with Nutanix. I can't say for sure. They may be partners.
I'm not sure if I am using the Pro or the regular version. I was not the person who installed it. I'm just a user. That said, we are always using the most recent version of the product.
I'd recommend the solution to others. The cost is okay.
I would rate the solution at an eight out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises

Good storage flexibility and linear scalability, but high relative cost
Pros and Cons
- "The features that I have found most valuable are its storage flexibility, linear scalability, and perhaps ease of use and powerful support."
- "The cost is a negative aspect."
What is our primary use case?
Our main activities with Nutanix Prism are server and desktop virtualization.
What is most valuable?
The features that I have found most valuable are its storage flexibility, linear scalability, and perhaps ease of use and powerful support.
What needs improvement?
In terms of what could be improved or simplified, they have an active software as a business continuity using Acropolis Hypervisor with the Syncro Disaster recovery, and they have made a good improvement with live upgrade with the LCM, but I would say there should be additional improvements on the live upgrade.
In the next release, I think it should have the integration monitor from a server component because I have some issues with the integration with the third party monitoring tool. I would also like to see additional improvements in the dashboard.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Nutanix Prism for three years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Yes, it is stable, but there is a good support team in case of a problem.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is a one click deployment. 70% of the time I did the setup I made the automatic discovery installation field and the majority of times I did a manual installation. The automatic installation is quick, but the majority of times I did it I needed to swap it from automatic to manual which required a lot of additional activities. They have good support, but it was a time consuming activity.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
We are also working with competing products - VMware VxRail and Sangfor which is a Chinese product, which is much cheaper because of its poor market share. It was a product with less experience and less functionality, but it was much cheaper. So Nutanix costs a lot, but it has ease of use, ease due to having a lot of the market share, has a lot of features, and has continuous improvement, but the cost is a negative aspect.
What other advice do I have?
On a scale of one to ten, I would rate Nutanix Prism a seven. It can be improved.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises

Provides better agility and has seamless integration features
Pros and Cons
- "It can combine computing, storage and networks in a single location."
- "The dashboard visibility could be improved."
What is our primary use case?
Our use case for this solution is hybrid. We use it for hyper-converged infrastructure and hybrid cloud management. The solution is deployed in the data centre.
How has it helped my organization?
The solution gives you better agility, especially concerning your physical data center footprint. It can combine the computing, storage and networks in a single location with a limited footprint physically. We can scale up and down, giving us a cloud-like behaviour when managing workload.
What is most valuable?
We have found the seamless integration feature most valuable. It offers computing, storage and network to support workloads. It is also seamless to monitor and have visibility over applications across on-premises locations and your multi-cloud environments.
What needs improvement?
The dashboard can be enhanced to provide greater visibility.
For how long have I used the solution?
We have been using this solution for three years and are currently using the latest version.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The solution is stable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The solution is scalable and can be scaled up or down as demanded.
How are customer service and support?
We have had a good experience with customer service and support. I rate them an eight out of ten.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We previously used VMware, but this solution has very modern and contemporary HCI solutions, which customers find very useful. We still support VMware because their system is a good one.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup was straightforward.
What about the implementation team?
Deployment was done in-house and took three to five days.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The licensing costs are provided to our customers because we are partners with Nutranix.
What other advice do I have?
I rate this solution an eight out of ten. The solution is good, but the dashboard visibility could be improved.

Pros and Cons
- "Nutanix Prism is very simple to use compared to other products. I have tried a number of tools, including VMware ESXi. Nutanix Prism is much simpler to use and we feel data transfers in it are very fast."
- "One problem I faced when creating a VM and adding a hard disk to is that Nutanix Prism did not allow me to reduce that VM's hard disk."
What is our primary use case?
Our primary use case for Nutanix Prism is deploying web servers.
What is most valuable?
Nutanix Prism is very simple to use compared to other products. I have tried a number of tools, including VMware ESXi. Nutanix Prism is much simpler to use and we feel data transfers in it are very fast. That's why we approached them originally.
What needs improvement?
One problem I faced when creating a VM and adding a hard disk is that Nutanix Prism did not allow me to reduce that VM's hard disk. This is an issue because I could not find a solution.
Also, in a session I had with Nutanix Prism today, I was told that they are going to include Kubernetes deployment in the next release. That is a good approach from my perspective. It's important for solutions to stay on the cutting edge.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using this solution since March, so for about a year.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Nutanix Prism is scalable. On a scale of one to five, I give it a 4.5 for scalability.
How are customer service and support?
The Nutanix Prism technical support is good. Whenever we have tried to reach them in the past, they have been available for us. I am satisfied with the technical support Nutanix Prism provides.
How was the initial setup?
The initial Nutanix Prism deployment was straightforward. We did not run into any issues. We created the CVM easily and deployed it on the cloud. We did this with the help of a Nutanix Prism support person from India.
What other advice do I have?
Nutanix Prism is a good solution. It is better than other products. I recommend it.

Our primary use case for the solution is for virtual machine management and storage management. I work as a technical support specialist and we're a customer of Nutanix.
What is most valuable?
The event management is a very valuable feature, and resource management is also very good. Their storage management is one of the best. They do very good deduplication and compression.
What needs improvement?
I think perhaps they can improve on the price but it is a good product.

I've been using the solution for about one year.
How are customer service and technical support?
We've contacted technical support for minor issues. Perhaps the response time could be improved but technically the customer support is very good.

Initial setup was done by a specialist contractor who was trained on Nutanix so we didn't have any issues with setting up. They did a great job.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
We are evaluating other products such as VMWare, but that's for other solutions.
What other advice do I have?
Anyone considering the solution should give it a test run. Try it in your environment. Check if your applications or your credit systems are compatible. I would say to anyone who has the budget to go for it, it's a really good system.
