Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"We've found the solution to be pretty stable.""The inspection and web security features are most valuable.""The secure web gateway module and the application control module are valuable. HA operations are very easy.""The SD-WAN is the most valuable feature.""Fortinet offers the latest versions to cater to the needs of enterprises.""Some of the valuable features are the firewall, IPS, web filter, and gateway capabilities. Additionally, it is easy to use and flexible.""The product offers very good security.""The solution is very user friendly. The user interface in particular is quite nice."

"The most valuable feature is the integration into the overall cloud platform.""Azure's cost-effectiveness is its major advantage.""We secure the entry point to the virtual data center with the firewall.""Azure Firewall is a cloud-native solution that removes the pain of load balancers.""The solution is very stable. When comparing it to other environments, it's actually quite impressive.""I like its order management feature. It doesn't have the kind of threat intelligence that Palo Alto has, but the order management makes it much simpler to know the difference.""It provided ease of maintenance. If a new firewall was needed, we only had to run the pipelines for this. So, the maintenance was very easy.""I think that one of the best features is definitely the premium version, along with the IDPs in terms of the intrusion detection and prevention system."

"It is a stable solution.""I like the ease of deployment and its flexibility. We don't need to deal with license, quotes, procurement, delivery, and installation. Everything is software-based, and it's very easy to operate.""It helps a lot of companies to reduce their downtime. Also, It helps businesses in terms of being secured and protected from any threats.""Once you have Zscaler running you have access to configure it however you want.""The solution offers good sandboxing.""Most of the features that Zscaler has to offer, we will deploy.""Includes advanced tech protection.""The initial setup is straightforward."

Cons
"To the best of my knowledge, Fortinet does not have a CASB solution and Fortinet does not have a Zero trust solution.""Technical support is good but the response time could be faster.""It would be ideal if they had some sort of GUI interface for troubleshooting and diagnostics.""The support from Fortinet FortiGate could improve. They are not easily accessible when we need them. They could improve their response time.""I think they need to improve more in order to be a competitor with the leaders of the field.""Fortigate's hardware capacities could be improved.""The initial setup and configuration are not intuitive and require training.""FortiGate is really good. We have been using it for quite some time. Initially, when we started off, we had around 70 plus devices of FortiGate, but then Check Point and Palo Alto took over the place. From the product perspective, there are no issues, but from the account perspective, we have had issues. Fortinet's presence in our company is very less. I don't see any Fortinet account managers talking to us, and that presence has diluted in the last two and a half or three years. We have close to 1,500 firewalls. Out of these, 60% of firewalls are from Palo Alto, and a few firewalls are from Check Point. FortiGate firewalls are very less now. It is not because of the product; it is because of the relationship. I don't think they had a good relationship with us, and there was some kind of disconnect for a very long time. The relationship between their accounts team and my leadership team seems to be the reason for phasing out FortiGate."

More Fortinet FortiGate Cons →

"Azure Firewall should have a free trial version for new users so that they can evaluate it before deploying it.""The product could be made more customizable.""It would be much easier if the on-premises, firewall rules, had some kind of export-import possibility in place, which is not the case right now.""The solution doesn't offer the same capabilities of Fortinet. It should offer intrusion prevention and advance filtering. These are two very useful features offered on Fortinet that Azure lacks.""It needs a lot of improvement, especially on intruder detection. They are working hard on that.""The reporting, logging, and monitoring features, as well as the flexibility of the policies, need to be improved.""There is room for further integration of AI into the system.""They can improve the pricing of Azure Firewall."

More Azure Firewall Cons →

"Zscaler Cloud Firewall should have a better understanding of all dynamic cloud applications.""We are having some issues with internet access being denied when organizational ID-based policies change. For example, a lower level employee ends up getting the same level of access as that of a higher level employee.""Because it's on cloud, it doesn't allow application of extra settings.""Instead of the standard license, they should certainly provide customers with the visibility to access and view the logs.""Data Leak Prevention is only for web filtering and there is no protection for email.""Pricing is a challenge.""The issue right now is probably that Zscaler is not providing web browser isolation. Another solution, Menlo, offers this. For one customer, we had to send traffic to Menlo to do the isolation for us. It was requested by the customer so that they could integrate any iframe. Zscaler needs to add this type of feature in their next release.""It would be better if they improved their policy, package visibility, and flexibility while we're creating rules for inspection. It could also be cheaper or more things could be included in the basic package. In the next release, I would like better coverage in the Asia Pacific region and better quality of service."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "Fortinet has one or two license types, and the VPN numbers are only limited by the hardware chassis make."
  • "These boxes are not that expensive compared to what they can do, their functionality, and the reporting you receive. Fortinet licensing is straightforward and less confusing compared to Cisco."
  • "Go for long term pricing negotiated at the time of purchase."

  • More Fortinet FortiGate Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "Azure Firewall is more expensive. If Microsoft can make Azure Firewall cheaper, I can see that all clients will think of using it. One client used FortiGate because it is much cheaper. Some clients ask me for Cisco, but in the cloud estimate, I found its cost is the same as Azure Firewall."
  • "Azure Firewall is quite an expensive product."
  • "The licensing module is good."
  • "The total cost of ownership is much less than Palo Alto, Cisco, or any other brand."
  • "It is pay-as-you-go. So, you pay based on the usage. If I remember it well, there is a basic fee, and there is a traffic fee. It is not per month. It is per hour or something like that. It is not so expensive."
  • "Azure Firewalls operate on a pay-as-you-go model, similar to cloud services."
  • "The solution is cheaper than other brands. My company has an enterprise contract and we finally got a good price with Azure."
