Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"It has given us an understanding of each layer from a server application.""We can scale the solution.""The best thing about Discovery is maintaining all the CIs in one place. I can sort the data, export it to Excel for manipulation, and build reports like how many computers or servers we have and their capacity.""It is a stable solution...The initial setup of the product is straightforward.""One of the most valuable features of ServiceNow Discovery is the automated discovery that helps identify dependencies and generates reports.""I like ServiceNow Discovery's overall structure and the way data comes in without creating a different dashboard or interface.""It has been stable since deployment.""The biggest advantage of ServiceNow is the value that it brings."

"The flexibility of this solution is amazing.""We are able to do problem determination on runaway processes.""The most valuable feature is the monitoring of virtual machines.""It has improved our server performance monitoring overall. We know right away when there are problems. It has built-in statistics, so we can go back and see if there's spiking. We can check what's happening every day around the same time and check the configuration to see if there's something that's running and needs to be fixed.""Zabbix is both stable and scalable.""The best thing about Zabbix is the integration and the APIs that are included are very fast""Zabbix is quite stable once it is set up. We haven't had any post-setup issues.""The most valuable features in Zabbix are those that help us overcome bottlenecks in CPU usage, as well as reduce memory delay. I know that we have only reached the tip of the iceberg of what Zabbix's features can do for us, and we have not used all of them yet."

Cons
"The initial setup could be made easier. We hired professionals to implement it, and they trained our employees for ongoing processes.""I feel that credential-less discovery could be improved.""The manual pattern-matching process is not only time-consuming but also presents challenges during system upgrades, demanding revisits to ensure compatibility.""In a few instances, ServiceNow has failed to discover some basic things. Some other tools are better at network discovery than ServiceNow. I'm not talking about database servers or any other infrastructure—only networking. Cloud discovery could also be better.""When you switch versions, for example, when you go from Paris to Quebec they will introduce many new things and occasionally things break when they do that.""In terms of improvement, I would like for it to be possible to use without coding. I would like a dropdown so that every customer can do it easily for himself and can understand it.""It's an expensive platform.""The solution needs to improve the cost of the solution. There are a few different solutions and they do act the same and have the same types of capabilities, however, the cost is quite high."

"There are a lot of areas for improvement, specifically in the dashboards and reports functionalities.""It could be more stable.""Zabbix could improve when it comes to large-scale use cases. Additionally, the inventory could be better when connecting to other solutions, such as ServiceNow. There show to be better integration with other platforms and storage.""Improvement is needed as per customer requirements.""The documentation gets a bit messy between versions and is not too detailed, which is a bit painful for first-timers, especially when they run into issues.""Zabbix claims that there is an auto-discovery process but my team member was facing difficulty and was told that it's not really automatic, and there are some manual steps.""I would like to better be able to monitor Oracle processes.""Look and feel."

I have researched a quite a few network monitoring tools which can be used for various monitoring purposes of not only the servers, but the intermediate routers as well. There are majorly three types of these softwares. Ones which are completely open-source, you can do almost anything you want using these, but they require quite some expertise before you can use them. Then there are the ones that are not open source, the enterprise softwares and cost you some money, but on the other hand, they are extremely easy to set-up and learn. You can have them up and running in a matter of minutes. And then there are those which are completely cloud based. They can be free of cost or charge some money depending on the software. The good thing about these is that you don’t have to install any extra software, and it can be managed completely online but then again these have limited features and you cannot exploit them to the full extent as you can do with the open-source and to some extent the enterprise software, so I won’t suggest you to use these, because these are generally not the complete solutions and require other support software to achieve the same. Below I have listed the outstanding pros and cons of the various Network analyzers that you can look into Nagios Pros: Nagios offers an extensive set of collector plug-ins that allows users to gather performance and availability data from a broad range of operating systems, including  Windows and Netware Nagios… Read more →
