Management trainee at a analyst firm with 51-200 employees
Fast, easy to use, and protects organizations from malicious downloads
Pros and Cons
- "The solution is pretty fast."
- "The performance could be improved."
What is our primary use case?
I use the solution whenever I'm not using my office Wi-Fi. I switch on the VPN to connect to any Wi-Fi outside my work location. I have to use my username and password from my work. The solution is used for security. I work for the HR department. We have a lot of confidential organizational data.
How has it helped my organization?
A few days ago, I was trying to convert a PDF into PPT, but I could not do it on my work laptop because it had confidential information and I was on VPN. The VPN warned me that the document had confidential information about the organization and that I could not upload it on an external server. That's how the solution protects the organizational data for security purposes.
What is most valuable?
The solution is pretty fast. It is easy to download and easy to use. I just have to put in my username and password to use the security feature. It always gives a warning. It helps me because I don't want my manager to know if I'm using confidential information outside work. The warning helps me stop the task I am performing. I use Microsoft applications like Teams, Outlook, and OneDrive to collaborate at work. I can use the applications on my laptop when I'm on VPN.
What needs improvement?
Sometimes, the product does not connect with the Wi-Fi. It usually does, but sometimes, if I'm using another Wi-Fi apart from my work Wi-Fi, it does not connect. It shows some error. If I have to work in a remote location, it gets difficult. When it happens, I have to restart the computer. The performance is not always effective. The performance could be improved.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using the solution since July last year.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The tool is quite stable. Once I connect to a network, it rarely gets disconnected. Sometimes, it doesn't get connected from the get-go. However, when it gets connected, it's quite stable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The tool is pretty scalable. The organization that I work for has millions of employees. There are 50,000 in my batch alone. Everyone uses the solution.
How are customer service and support?
I contacted technical support when I faced issues. The support team helped me out on the same day.
How was the initial setup?
It was pretty easy to install the product. It took one to two minutes. I had to go to the website, search for Cisco VPN’s free version, and download it. To install it, I required the username and password from the IT department in my organization. I don't have the access to download or install a program. The IT personnel provided the username and password, and I was able to download the file. When I ran the file, I could go through the installation wizard. I had an icon on my desktop and the taskbar when it was downloaded. It requires my username and password every time I click on it.
What was our ROI?
The solution keeps my data safe. It protects me from malicious downloads and unauthorized uploads. It's pretty easy and fast to install and use. It doesn't take up much of my laptop’s RAM. My laptop does not get slow while using the solution in the background.
What other advice do I have?
The solution is pretty easy to use. My recommendation depends on what purpose someone wants to use the tool for. If someone wants to use it for work purposes, it's quite good. It warns and protects us from viruses or sharing confidential information outside the organization. I use the tool for free as an employee of my organization. I have used other VPNs only on my mobile phone. Those tools were better at connecting to the network. Cisco is the second-best product I have used. Overall, I rate the product an eight out of ten.

Consultant and Project Manager at Tata Consultancy
A stable and reliable solution that doesn't get disconnected often
Pros and Cons
- "The solution's environment is stable and doesn't get disconnected every now and then."
- "The solution takes some time to log in because of some unavoidable security barriers, but it would be better if that could happen faster."
What is our primary use case?
When we are on a client network, the VPN comes into effect. We don't need a VPN for pre-sales or our local work. The solution is used for anything where a certain amount of data security is required and certain controls are in place. It's largely used when you are on a client network.
What is most valuable?
The solution's environment is stable and doesn't get disconnected every now and then.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Cisco IOS SSL VPN is a scalable solution.
What other advice do I have?
Once you are on a VPN, we can use whatever applications the client gives us access to. There is no limitation regarding whether it is an Oracle database or some UI programs. Whatever is required is given through the VPN.
It doesn't take much time to get into the solution. You have an authenticator on your mobile, and your mobile is linked to the VPN. Your authenticator gives you access to the VPN and allows you to access the environment securely.
Cisco IOS SSL VPN can be deployed on-premises or on the cloud. I would recommend Cisco IOS SSL VPN to users looking for reliability. The encryption provided by the solution is good. The solution’s user experience has been good.

We are using the solution for access control and internal servers.
What is most valuable?
The solution is quite transparent. We hardly have any issues.

How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is quite straightforward. The deployment took less than ten minutes. The client was simple. It is a plug-and-play solution. It is a client-server-based tool.
What about the implementation team?
The product can be deployed in-house. We do not need many people to maintain the solution. The IT team can manage it.
What was our ROI?
We have received quite a good ROI on the solution. It is very valuable.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The product costs less.
What other advice do I have?
The intranet-related resources like Jira or Confluence with cloud servers are connected. Cisco cannot do anything if the connectivity from the VPN server to our site is broken. It is up to us to resolve it. I would recommend the solution to others. The product is quite simple to use and free from errors. It is quite stable. Overall, I rate the tool a nine and a half out of ten.

- "The product's RPA tools need enhancement for simplified business process automation."

We use the product to connect to remote computers securely.
What is most valuable?
Cisco IOS SSL VPN provides fast connectivity and the option to connect through multiple servers. We connect to any nearer server while working in any specific geographical area.
What needs improvement?
It is challenging to automate processes in a VPN. The product's RPA tools need enhancement for simplified business process automation. Its design could be more user-friendly.
For how long have I used the solution?
We have been using Cisco IOS SSL VPN for two to three years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The platform has good stability. However, we get logged out of a session if we don't use it for a long time. Otherwise, it works fine.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
Earlier, we connected the VPN using a traditional two-factor authentication method, likely using hardware tokens or a similar mechanism. In comparison, Cisco IOS SSL VPN provides a simpler username and password-based authentication.
How was the initial setup?
The platform is simple to configure. The deployment process involves the installation of virtual machines and accessing credentials for the users. Configuring the machines becomes easier if the clients provide access to their user accounts.

A stable and scalable solution for VPN dial-up with easy setup
What is our primary use case?
We use the solution as a VPN dial-up. That's all. We are working from home or anywhere else from the office. We connect using the VPN.
What needs improvement?
The scanning part is one of the key features that Cisco should provide. Secondly, FortiClient has more features than Cisco. FortiClient allows you to connect their VPN over any machine. We can change the FortiGate firewall, but we need a separate license in Cisco.

I have been using Cisco IOS SSL VPN for a year.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
I rate the solution’s stability a nine out of ten.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
You have to purchase SSL for every VPN license from the vendor side. Everything depends upon the licensing.
3000 people are using this solution. There is a hybrid model in my company. Most of the employees work from home, or company or country. They are connected over the SSL VPN.
I rate the solution’s scalability a ten out of ten.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I have also worked with the FortiClient. FortiClient is much more versatile, easy to configure, and is more functional.
How was the initial setup?
The solution setup is easy for everyone. We must run the platform and upload the configuration file to every agent installed on the system. Every agent is easier to proceed.
What other advice do I have?
When I was in Pakistan, my company used Cisco products and the firewall. The ransomware came into our environment and breached the Cisco firewall. It passed along the Cisco firewall and then ran CMC connections. With respect to reliability, I rate it around seven.
