IT Manager Network at a transportation company with 10,001+ employees
The automation of features that used to be done manually is a significant time saver
Pros and Cons
- "Automation of the ILS."
- "API lacks robustness."
What is our primary use case?
Our primary use case of the solution is for automation. We're an airline so a lot of people buy from us. We are vendors and I'm an IT manager.
What is most valuable?
There are many valuable features in this solution: The automation of the ILS, the automation of the small changes, the lands updates, scheduling, integration - basically, the pushing of features that we used to do manually. It's a good product.
What needs improvement?
The robustness in the API could be improved. I also think Cisco could look into reducing the pricing of the solution.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've been using this solution since it's been on the market.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The stability hasn't been too bad.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
There are no issues with scalability.
How are customer service and technical support?
The technical support is a gap for us as a company. When I think of technical support, there's two types: There's developmental and then there's operational support. Cisco shines at developmental support and new products. Operational support, and then continuing to keep the lights on, is an area that could be improved.
What other advice do I have?
Any company needs to understand that it requires a commitment, the need to employ somebody who's a specialist, who understands and can manage the portal itself. If you do that, there are many benefits to be had.
I would rate this solution an eight out of 10.

- "Fabric suite automation is a great feature."
- "Could integrate better with VMware products."
What is our primary use case?
We are customers of Cisco and I'm a system engineer.

Fabric suite automation is a great feature.
What needs improvement?
I'd like to see better integration with VMware products such as NSX and the reporting could be improved.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've been using this solution for one and a half years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The solution is stable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The solution is scalable. We currently have four network managers and eight system engineers.
How are customer service and support?
The technical support is quite good, they respond quickly.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We previously used SolarWinds Network Monitoring but switched to Cisco but it has multiple tools on a single platform. SolarWinds does provide better reporting.
How was the initial setup?
Deployment took us 25 days and was carried out by our local team with some assistance from Cisco.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The product is good but quite expensive. We pay an annual license and the cost depends on the number of devices.
What other advice do I have?
I rate this solution nine out of 10.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
Private Cloud

Dependable and has excellent stability
Pros and Cons
- "The product has excellent stability."
- "It would be nice to have the ability to more easily collect information from other software when doing some types of analysis."
What is our primary use case?
We use this product as an enterprise network troubleshooting solution and also the operator of the VPN (Virtual Private Network) solution for our enterprise network.
What is most valuable?
For our purposes, excellent stability is the most valuable feature because we provide services for clients who need a dependable solution.
What needs improvement?
I would like to see improved integration with other tools. It would be nice to have the ability to more easily collect information from other software when doing some types of analysis.
For how long have I used the solution?
We have not been using this solution for a very long time but it has been about two years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The stability of this product is good. It is our clients who are working with the solution. We do not get complaints. It is hard to say exactly how many users are using Data Center Network Manager in those companies. We treat the data from those customers in the system and perform analysis.
How are customer service and technical support?
We do not actually deal with Cisco's customer support as our clients have their own teams for this purpose. They are responsible for communications with their own contacts at Cisco, not us.
How was the initial setup?
We provide the services so the responsibility for the setup is the customer's job. It is not our responsibility to set up the system for deployment. While this may be a little difficult for less experienced users, for an engineer who is familiar with Cisco setting up the product will be easy for them. Less experienced users will probably have to contact Cisco for assistance.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The product is licensed with contracts that work on a yearly basis rather than a monthly model.
What other advice do I have?
On a scale from one to ten where one is the worst and ten is the best, I would rate Cisco Data Center Network Manager as an eight-out-of-ten. Maybe even a nine-out-of-ten. It is a very good product but every product can be improved. The documentation for this product can certainly be improved, for example.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises

Solutions Architect at a comms service provider with 1,001-5,000 employees
A stable monitoring and backup solution for our customers that is easy to install
Pros and Cons
- "After installation, you almost forget that it is working."
- "In the next release, I would like to see it merged with Prime and I think that it should be more unified."
What is our primary use case?
The primary use case of this solution is to manage our customer's storage network, collect their data, and to back up their data.
Customers want us to monitor the data samples, or they may request that we do some management of the network devices.
The deployment model we are using is a stand-alone, on-premises. For each site, they had six different types and for all of them, we used only one Data Centre Manager.
What needs improvement?
In the next release, I would like to see it merged with Prime and I think that it should be more unified.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using this solution for almost twelve years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
This solution is quite stable. After installation, you almost forget that it is working.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
It is difficult to provide an opinion on the scalability because each data center has its base and its own data center manager.
I could not give you exact numbers, but approximately, I would say that they have twenty devices.
How are customer service and technical support?
I have not contacted technical support because I haven't needed any support.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup was straightforward.
What other advice do I have?
If they want to mix storage in it, they can use it to manage the devices. They cannot, however, do this through the database client. It can only be done through the manager.
