In 10 minutes, I can do work that would take me two or three hours in another solution.
We use Monarch for account reconciliation. We have several accounts from last year that carry over into this year, so we do reconciliation to see if there are any outliers compared to last year and if the system is automatically picking up for renewals. Monarch is used for minor reconciliation work…

Its ability to transform and transport data is extremely valuable
We use SSIS for data extraction, transformation, and loading processes. This includes extracting data from various sources like Oracle and SQL Server, and then transforming it for use in reporting tools like Power BI dashboards. While we haven't directly migrated data between databases using SSIS…

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Monarch lets you quickly extract in your preferred format."
"The initial setup of this solution is very straightforward."
"The scalability of SSIS is good."
"I like that this solution is very scalable, accommodating large datasets and various types of servers. It integrates with most common database servers and allows for customization through coding, including complex scripts. Compared to Alteryx Designer, SSIS offers more customization. Its data cleaning capabilities are highly accurate because we can run tests as data is loaded, ensuring it meets all requirements before reaching the final destination. The ability to write custom SQL and C# code within SSIS packages is its greatest feature."
"The performance is good."
"It has good data integration and good processes."
"The setup is straightforward. It's very easy to install."
"We can connect with multiple data sources easily using an external connector in SSIS."
"It is also easy to learn and user-friendly. Microsoft is also good in terms of technical support. They have built a large community all over the world."

Cons

"I rate Altair Monarch seven out of 10 for affordability. Recently, the pricing model changed from end-user licensing to a concurrent licensing model."
"I would also like to see full integration with our BI because then our full load of data will be available in our organization. They should incorporate an ATL process."
"SSIS can improve by the minimum code requirements in stored procedures and exporting data is difficult. They could make it easier, it should be as easy as it is to import data."
"Integration and the user interface are areas with certain shortcomings that require some improvements."
"We've had issues in terms of the amount of data that is transferred when we are scheduling."
"We're in the process of switching to Informatica, and we need to work out data lineage and data profiling and to improve the quality of our data. SSIS, however, is not that compatible with Informatica. We managed to connect it to Informatica Metadata Manager, but we don't get good lineage, so we have to redo all our ETLs using the Informatica process in order to accept the proper data lineage."
"SSIS has room for improvement, mainly because the overall package can be buggy. It often locks up, requiring a restart, which is annoying. However, since it's free, we tolerate these performance issues. I'd like to see better debugging tools in future releases and improvements in API calls; It would be helpful if SSIS had a built-in API engine so we wouldn't have to rely solely on database connections."
"It's difficult to refactor SSIS. It gets cumbersome to reuse the solution."
"Sometimes we need to connect to AWS to get additional data sources, so we have to install some external LAN and not a regular RDBMS. We need external tools to connect. It would be great if SSIS included these tools. I'd also like some additional features for row indexing and data conversion."

Pricing and Cost Advice

Information not available
"It would be beneficial if the solution had a less costly cloud offering."
"If you don't want to pay a lot of money, you can go for SSIS, as its open-source version is available. When it comes to licensing, SSIS can be expensive."
"Based on my experience and understanding, Talend comes out to be a little bit expensive as compared to SSIS. The average cost of having Talend with Talend Management Console is around 72K per region, which is much higher than SSIS. SSIS works very well with Microsoft technologies, and if you have Microsoft technologies, it is not really expensive to have SSIS. If you have SQL Server, SSIS is free."
"People have to opt for a perpetual-based licensing model."
"I'm not involved in licensing details, but SSIS provides value to our organization by simplifying data management tasks."
"The solution comes free of cost."
"This solution is a free of charge addition to our SQL licence. However, the only way this tool can be utilized is as a feature of the SQL licence, which may make it unattractive to organizations who don't wish to purchase the wider-ranging licence."
"SSIS' licensing is a little high, but it gives good value for money."
