Improves disaster recovery processes and offers an efficient CPU cycle optimization
Using BMC Data Management for IMS and DB2 on z/OS has greatly improved our database administration tasks. Although we don't test the database before production, we have experienced benefits in disaster recovery situations and capacity management. For instance, when facing capacity issues during…

Efficient data integration and transformation with seamless cloud-native integration
In our small business unit, we currently have around four users, with two of them utilizing Matillion within our organization. Considering our growing needs, we're contemplating transitioning to an enterprise SaaS solution where we would share the same instance. Currently, each user is billed individually, but consolidating to a shared instance seems more efficient. Scalability is excellent when using the SaaS solution, easily reaching a rating of ten out of ten. Each data pipeline request is encapsulated within a Docker container and spun off, allowing for instant scalability. Overall, I would rate it a nine out of ten in terms of performance and scalability.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"I have worked with DB2's great features in the last five years. The IDAA feature transformed the vision of warehousing, business analytics, and big data at my bank. Besides the mainframe, I saw that this solution was evolutionary. It gives real-time information."
"BMC Data Management improved our data recovery process by simplifying it."
"The product has a good user interface."
"The technical support treats us well. They already have a support portal, and they are responsive, which helps."
"The most valuable feature of Matillion ETL is its ease of use. If you have had some experience with other solutions, such as Snowflake, the use of this solution will be simple."
"It can scale to a great extent. It can handle the load that we are putting on it, which is about 5TBs."
"It has good integrations with Amazon Redshift and other AWS services."
"The most valuable feature of Matillion ETL is the ETL. The solution is open-source which provides advantages, such as good performance and high efficiency. Additionally, it supports three data types which eliminates predefining the data, and we can write script models in Python."
"It's highly scalable. It takes upon itself the Redshift scalability, so it's very good."
"The tool's middle-dimensional structure significantly simplifies obtaining the right data at the appropriate level. This feature makes deploying our applications easier since we utilize a single source without publishing data from various sources."

Cons

"One area for improvement with this product could be in providing clearer guidance and tools for disaster recovery planning and execution."
"DB2 is a hard tool to grasp. It's hard for users to learn how to use it. It's not easy to see how it works."
"When using the SQL loader type there were not a lot of pre-processing features for the data. For example, if there is a table with twenty columns, but we only want to load ten columns. In that case, we can use a security script to select the specific columns needed. However, if we want to perform extensive pre-processing of the data, I faced some challenges with Matillion ETL. I did not encounter many challenges, but my overall experience is limited as I only have three years of experience."
"There are certain functions that are available in other ETL tools which are still not present in Matillion ETL. It would be good to have more features."
"The cost of the solution is high and could be reduced."
"The improvement area could be possible if the tool provides better integration capabilities with other ecosystems, including governance tools or data cataloging tools, as it is currently an area where the solution is lacking."
"The product's scalability needs improvement. Perhaps adding more connectors would be beneficial."
"In the next release, we would like to have connections to more databases."
"One of the features that's in development is data privacy in the cloud, along with further SAP integration. For connectivity to SAP systems."
"Going forward, I would like them to add custom jobs, since we still have to run these outside of Matillion."

Pricing and Cost Advice

Information not available
"It was very easy to purchase through the AWS Marketplace, but it was also expensive."
"Purchasing it through the AWS Marketplace is pretty convenient. There is a little bit of back and forth in terms of the licensing based on the machine size, but it seems to have worked out well. it is convenient to have it all as part of our AWS billing."
"The pricing depends on what edition the customer opts for. For example, the standard edition is priced at $2.00 per credit. And you are only charged when you use it. You're not charged when it's idle."
"The solution is very cheap. You're paying $2.50 an hour and if you set your service up, which you can do, you're not getting charged. Currently, our ETL process is just an overnight process that runs for about an hour. I can start and stop my server just for an hour if I want to and spent $2.50 a day for an ETL solution. There are no additional costs."
"It is cost-effective. Based on our use case, it's efficient and cheap. It saves a lot of money and our upfront costs are less."
"Its price depends on what you expect. You pay on a monthly basis, but there is a possibility to have special contracts depending on the installation."
"I have heard from my manager and other higher ups, "This product is cheaper than other things on the market," and they have done the research."
"The cost of the solution is high and could be reduced."
