Offers good stability and simplicity
The room for improvement lies in the responsiveness and real-time feedback of the web server setup. We could set up the installation through a web server, but it's not very reactive on the web server. For example, when you launch a task, and you don't know exactly if the task has begun or if the task is in progress, or if it's finished. You have to wait for three to five to ten minutes to be sure that the task is running or in progress or finished. So at that point, it's not very good. For the rest, we have a good organization for the platform. And it's working everywhere. Another area of improvement is duplication.

Reliable, fulfils compliance requirements, and enables to manage data backups easily
I use the solution for backup and recovery Our systems have become more stable and scalable after using NetApp AltaVault. The dashboard is useful for managing data backups. The deduplication technology helps me take offline backups efficiently. The workload on the end team has been reduced. It…

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Stability-wise, I rate the solution a ten out of ten."
"It is an inexpensive storage solution."
"For us, the initial setup was easy."
"The stability is quite good. Once you deploy all the equipment, it's very stable."
"The initial setup was easy and simple."
"The most valuable feature of Dell PowerVault is its ability to provide small to medium-range storage. It doesn't have any specific standout features, but it's great for applications, such as surveillance where a large number of videos need to be recorded and performance isn't a priority."
"The most valuable features are stability and response time."
"The most valuable feature of this solution is that it is easy to manage and easy to use."
"Its initial setup is easy."
"The most valuable features of the solution stem from the fact that it is easy to use and integrate with whichever operating systems you use, providing you with a complete view, especially when you plan to migrate to some other operating system."
"The flexibility. Being able to virtualize it, port it wherever I like, test my backups, test my DR capabilities whenever I like without impacting anybody."
"You can store backups for a while."
"The deduplication engine. Right now, we're at about 10.5 to 11 times deduplication of our backup data."
"The dashboard is useful for managing data backups."
"The solution is very easy to use and it offers great support."
"It's pretty simple. Once you set it, it goes; and then the idea of being able to get it to the cloud very quickly. It's kind of a set-it-forget-it."

Cons

"The price of the solution could be lower."
"The implementation process takes a while."
"Dell PowerVault could improve by having a higher cache and file protocol support added."
"The product could support an NVMe hard disk."
"In most instances, clients are using Dell PowerVault with tape drives, but we want to transition them away from tape drives due to the risk of data loss."
"I would like to see improvements made to the user interface."
"I would like Dell to improve on the configuration of the disk groups. Only one group is expandable. Once you configure the other disk group types, you cannot expand them. It limits scalability. If you want maybe to grow a disk group, you lose information, and then you need to build it up again, which is not a good use case for customers."
"The product is generally stable, but there have been instances, to my knowledge, where we faced issues in the controller during software upgrades. The availability is not at the desired level during these upgrade processes, as we sometimes need to shut down both controllers. This could be an area for improvement."
"I would like to see more web support."
"More capacity with the basic model of the AltaVault would probably help out."
"The product must provide multi-gate connectivity."
"The initial setup phase of the tool was difficult."
"It's a good product, but it's becoming outdated and moving to their other primary architecture."
"I really want to partner it with the SnapCenter. We haven't implemented that yet. We're upgrading all of our stuff to the ONTAP 9, which you had to have."
"There are some bits it could do better. With tighter integration maybe with Veeam, or something like that, it'd be really good."
"The solution needs faster indexing."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The cost, compared to other solutions, is on the higher end."
"I would rate the pricing model a nine out of ten, with one being expensive and ten being cheap."
"The price is reasonable and we are satisfied with it."
"The product is inexpensive."
"Dell PowerVault's price is the tool's main attraction."
"I rate the product price a nine on a scale of one to ten, where one is low, and ten is high."
"The solution is more cost-effective than the competitors. It’s an affordable option for small businesses."
"It is important to remember that the retail price may seem high, but the final price is usually different."
"You could compare it to a Dell EMC or ECS, and I think it's probably a little less costly than that. Within the marketplace, it's a medium cost."
"The price is a bit high."
"The pricing is not too bad, but could be a little better."
"It is a rather expensive program."
"There is a need to make yearly payments towards the licensing costs attached to the solution, which comes to around 3,000 USD."
"In one use case, and we have several, to run for a particular customer, the price is about $375,000 a year."
"It's quite cost-effective."
