I use the tool to serve my website from the front and back end.

Simplifies many developer tasks but improvement is needed in deployment time
Pros and Cons
- "The solution's app platform simplifies many tasks a developer must handle manually. For instance, when serving a website, the app platform uses NGINX to manage the app's serving, caching, and automatic rerunning in case of failure."
- "The deployment time can be improved in DigitalOcean. While deployment is automated, the process can take a minute and a half to five minutes, and for more complex applications, this time increases even further. This is not optimal for applications that receive frequent updates."

Find out what your peers are saying about DigitalOcean, Google, Amazon Web Services (AWS) and others in Infrastructure as a Service Clouds (IaaS). Updated: December 2024.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?
There have been issues with servers going down continuously, sometimes starting to fail after three to four days. Due to these stability issues, I would rate DigitalOcean as six out of ten.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
If a website receives more traffic, it is easy to set up and manage increased load capacity using tools like Cloudinary. The load can be distributed by increasing the number of instances of the app and employing a load balancer. My company has four users.
How was the initial setup?
The solution's deployment time varies between a minute and a half and five minutes.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The tool's pricing is cheap.
What other advice do I have?
I rate the overall solution a seven out of ten and would recommend it to others. For someone new to DigitalOcean, I would suggest choosing the location of their back end and front end so they are as close to each other as possible. For instance, if you're based in the US and your customers are also in the US, it's best to use DigitalOcean instances located in the US.

Easy to get started, stable and scalable solution
Pros and Cons
- "I like Kubernetes integration."
- "I would like to see improvements to the logging and user interface. The verification process could be more streamlined."
What is our primary use case?
I used DigitalOcean for Jitsu Cool Data Solution because it's cheap and suitable for my clients and my enterprise.
We use it virtual machine, Kubernetes. That's the basis, then the others.
What is most valuable?
I like Kubernetes integration.
What needs improvement?
I would like to see improvements to the logging and user interface. The verification process could be more streamlined.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using this solution for a year.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
I would rate the stability a seven out of ten.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
DigitalOcean has over 20 active users. I would rate the scalability a seven out of ten.
How was the initial setup?
I would rate my experience with the implementation of DigitalOcean an eight out of ten, where one is difficult, and ten is easy. It was very easy to get started.
The deployment took just a few seconds. It was just a few clicks.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The pricing is cheap. The price can vary depending on the configuration you choose. For example, a virtual machine with an EC2 instance in the West region costs $20 per month, while a data solution costs $10 or $8 per month.
What other advice do I have?
Overall, I would rate the solution an eight out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

CEO at DEFQON SOLUTIONS
Cloud infrastructure solution with a responsive customer support team that is straightforward to set up
Pros and Cons
- "The customer support team are very responsive."
- "The technical support for this solution could be improved."
What is our primary use case?
We are developing an app on React and Node and we needed a cloud solution which is what we use DigitalOcean for.
What needs improvement?
The technical support for this solution could be improved.
For how long have I used the solution?
We have been using this solution for six months.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
So far, we have not experienced any issues with stability. There was a bit of downtime last month for a few minutes but it was fixed quickly. Other than that, adding servers, droplets and containers work seamlessly.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
We are currently still using this solution in a testing environment with 20 users. We will only know how we can scale this solution once it goes live.
How are customer service and support?
The customer support team are very responsive.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup was straightforward. There is one person from our DevOps team and he manages the cloud deployment and optimization.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
This is a pay as you go solution. There is no license and it is usage based.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
We went through rough pricing estimates when evaluating our options. We didn't have a huge technical requirement and so pricing was our main consideration. This solution was the lowest and was one of the top three recommended companies next to Azure and AWS.
What other advice do I have?
DigitalOcean is a good solution and I would recommend it to others. I would rate it a ten out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
Public Cloud

Head Of Application Technology at a tech services company with 11-50 employees
Has a good system but it should have better security and customer support
Pros and Cons
- "The solution is very stable."
- "I think something needs to be done in terms of technical support."
What is our primary use case?
We use this program for reliability and support. We have several solutions, enterprise solutions, which we deploy for our clients. So we manage the deployment, management of the service and everything for it to run or keep it up and running.
What is most valuable?
The managed database service is what I really like as it really simplifies the setup of a database infrastructure. With the availability of backups and point-in-time recovery, logs & query dashboard, using the managed database service would ultimately result in reduction in cost attached to setting up such robust DB infrastructure.
What needs improvement?
I think the support can be improved, and I also think DigitalOcean needs to work on the reliability of the droplets. I've done some research and discovered that the droplet becomes unbootable. The boot drive gets corrupt, and that is a problem - especially when you're in a production system. That really gives a poor experience and that is why I had to focus on AWS. In terms of support and reliability of droplets I think they really need to improve in that area. I'd also prefer an upgrade on the security.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've been using the program for at least five years now.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The solution is very stable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
I believe that DigitalOcean is easily scalable.
How are customer service and technical support?
Something needs to be done in terms of technical support. I understand they support several businesses and it might not be easy to get to everyone on time. I believe they try their best to give good support.
I would even prefer a paid support service, if it were possible, as long as I could get that support. Because for a system like ours, where we run a huge infrastructure, you need to monitor things 24/7, and it is critical if something goes wrong. So I need to be sure that I can get to support at any time. I don't want to send a ticket and wait for hours before it's been attended to. And there are no other means to get in touch with the support team as they don't take any direct phone calls.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We develop and run complex software technology solutions, basically to manage client business processes. We have several use cases where we deploy databases on the cloud and the application separately too. And for our databases, the reason why we chose AWS right now over any other provider is because of the flexibility, the backup advantage we have with them, and for pricing.
How was the initial setup?
One of the benefits of DigitalOcean is that the setup is easy and you don't need to be an expert because it is not complicated at all. I did the deployment myself and it took less than five minutes.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
We use many different solutions at once, but we don't want to keep all our eggs in one basket. We use Azure, Oracle, AWS, and DigitalOcean and they all quite work well. We basically use DigitalOcean as a safeguard.
What other advice do I have?
I still use DigitalOcean for production, but I would not recommend it to others who want to run a critical enterprise grade application on this solution. Perhaps I was the only one who had a bad experience with technical issues and my experience does not mean that DigitalOcean is not good. I would like people to have their own experience.
Again, I think security is more important and I think DigitalOcean has been doing a lot in terms of security. I've noticed monitoring my droplets with DigitalOcean that they are blocking many unknown users trying to access my droplets and other things to make sure things are fine.
My rating is a seven out of ten.
