Technical Manager at a manufacturing company with 11-50 employees
Fast, easy to use, and offers good performance
Pros and Cons
- "The solution is quite scalable."
- "The solution should allow for easier configurations."
What is our primary use case?
We primarily use the solution to connect to the HCI. We try to connect to HCI and share the storage space to a VM farm.
What is most valuable?
The solution is very fast. It has a replication from Nimble A to Nimble B, which is a high-speed connection.
The solution is quite scalable.
The stability is very good.
It's quite easy to use and the performance is quite good.
What needs improvement?
The solution should allow for easier configurations.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've been using the solution for around two years or so at this point.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The stability is very good. We don't have to deal with bugs or glitches and it doesn't crash or freeze. It's reliable and the performance is good.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The scalability is there if a company needs to expand. It's not a problem to grow it out.
We have three or four users on the product right now.
We might increase usage in the future.
How are customer service and support?
I haven't really connected with technical support for issues with the product.
I remember one time I requested help from HPE for their info site. They did help and I was satisfied with the level of service I got.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
Previous to this product we just used normal three-tier storage, for example, HPE, MSA, Lenovo, and so on.
How was the initial setup?
In terms of the initial setup, while it is quite easy for the fiber connection, I recall for the ISS connection it was quite complex.
The initial setup itself only took about one day. It didn't take too long.
What about the implementation team?
The first time we implemented it, we had the help of the HPE team. the second time we did it, we were able to handle the process internally on our own.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
We pay a monthly licensing fee.
What other advice do I have?
We are on the latest version of the solution. I can't speak to the exact version number.
I'd recommend it to others as it is quite easy to use and does offer very good performance. However, if you do not have experience with the product, you'll find the configuration process difficult.
I'd rate the solution at a nine out of ten. We've been pretty happy with its capabilities.

Team Leader at PT.Helios Informatika Nusantara
Easy to update with simple end-user management
Pros and Cons
- "Updates are very easy to do when the customer is connected to the internet."
- "HPE does not have suffficient storage."
What needs improvement?
Competitors, such as Dell EMC, make use of NVMe storage. They also use the STM storage module. Primera only has a maximum of eight. In contrast, HPE Nimble Storage does not use NVMe and this makes it challenging for us to convince the customer, who is sometimes aware of this technology, to go with it.
HPE does not have sufficient storage. Overall, the customers in need of the solution have sufficient network data storage. There is also SAN storage in one solution, in a single product. I have made three requests that the storage be capable of being samples in a single bundle. We have the protocol as an example when it comes to the product. Yet, if the customer needs to configure NAS storage, this necessitates the purchase of separate software. As the competitors have already launched the solution with NVMe or STM storage, we have also done so with Primera. The same holds true in respect of Dell EMC. In Indonesia we encounter customers who are knowledgeable about the storage and infrastructure and enquire about the solution as it concerns HPE storage.
For how long have I used the solution?
We have been working with HPE Nimble Storage for two years, since the time of its release. With HPE Primera we have been working for at least one year.
How are customer service and technical support?
Technical support is good. Their responses are interactive and they work with us. We try to keep open communication with our customers and I know that in internal support the issue has arisen of how long it takes to be escalated from L2 to L3 support.
I feel that it takes too long. When it comes to performing integration with InfoSight, it is helpful that we can then segment the issue or possibly check the connection.
How was the initial setup?
Updates are very easy to do when the customer is connected to the internet. This is also the case with InfoSight if the customer is connected.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
HPE Nimble Storage has a simple management end-user. The customer will generally provide us with feedback about performance upon installation of the solution, including in respect of VMware. Our customers are helpful when our performance involves configuring integration such as that of vCenter with InfoSight. I am aware of the tech problem we encounter. The VM we have with high-class latency is, surprisingly, very helpful to manage.
What other advice do I have?
I'm working with one of the distributors here in Indonesia, Helios Informatika Nusantara. Mainly I'm involved with managing the SMB company.
I rate HPE Nimble Storage as a nine out of ten.

IT Support Engineer at a computer software company with 501-1,000 employees
Plenty of features, user friendly, and portal useful
Pros and Cons
- "Some of the beneficial features I have found are the Block-level backups, the interface is easy to use, backups work well and the portal is functional."
- "We want to start storing data in the cloud really soon and we are looking at options."
What is our primary use case?
The solution is used for a storage area network(SAN) that we store files and backups on.
How has it helped my organization?
The SAN has been great, it has been a big help.
What is most valuable?
Some of the beneficial features I have found are the Block-level backups, the interface is easy to use, backups work well and the portal is functional.
What needs improvement?
We want to start storing data in the cloud really soon and we are looking at other options. If there is a solution that could combine Azure backup and interconnect it with storage on-premises and on the cloud, this would be great. This solution could already exist by HP, I have not done the research yet or know what the process looks like.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using the solution for three years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
I had no problems with stability.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Scalability is something we are looking into with HA and failover features at other locations. This is part of that project we are working on. I do not know right now exactly how scalable the solution is but I might know soon.
Our whole company SAN, uses the solution of approximately 700 employees.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The solution is a little pricey compared to others on the market.
What other advice do I have?
I rate HPE Nimble Storage a nine out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises

Virtualisation/SAN Specialist with 1,001-5,000 employees
The Performance Integration with Commvault is valuable for us.
Pros and Cons
- "Performance Integration with Commvault"
- "Web GUI should be HTML5."
How has it helped my organization?
- Data Protection is superb with downstream DR Nimble arrays.
- Confidence in support and not being afraid to keep up to date.
What is most valuable?
- Simplicity, ease of upgrade of software (no downtime)
- Performance Integration with Commvault
- InfoSight reporting
- Support – World Class
- The Web GUI interface is easy to use and self-explanatory. From the Web GUI you can register the array plugin to vCenter and from within the VMWare Client and the Web Client you have array integration to allow you to Clone Snapshots and present the clone to the ESXi hosts in a couple of mouse clicks. This feature allows VM power users with the appropriate permissions (set in vCenter) to Clone, Snapshot, Expand, delete and even change the Nimble Protection (Snapshot) schedule without needing array logon credentials or needing to go onto the array Web GUI. Commvault recognizes the Nimble arrays through it’s API so we can trigger app consistent snapshots for various products like MS SQL, Oracle, My SQL,Exchange …. The list is expansive. Nimble do provide Exchange and MS SQL out of the box also. There is also a Nimble Connection Manager for VMware (NCM) that automatically set the Path Selection Policy optimized for VMware ESXi/Nimble performance.
What needs improvement?
- Web GUI should be HTML5.
- Use smaller form factor disk to provide more spindles. Streaming Backup I/O overnight would dent performance if we were a 24*7 business. Most of our workload is 07:30 -18:30.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
No.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
No, but the SSD cache could do with increasing on some of our system. That’s a financial (Bean Counter) decision.
How are customer service and technical support?
The best support ever. They will even assist if the problem lies with Hyper-V, VMware and networking. This is why I don’t think you can go wrong with Nimble!
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
- NetApp, EMC, Dell EqualLogic.
- NetApp relies on lots of disk and was a nightmare to keep up to date. Updating was a major project when it happened.
- NetApp? To complicated and the extras like snap manager for Exchange very expensive. The others? Not much experience of EMC or EqualLogic.
How was the initial setup?
Really simple.Nimble asks you various questions about IP addresses and then you get a pre-installation checklist. If you didn’t have a clue they’d guide you on the phone initially and then do a WebEx session to get you there. Simple.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Competitive. No licensing. Since everything is included.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
Tintri
What other advice do I have?
They have All Flash arrays if people are concerned about Hybrid performance.
The support is the major factor in choosing Nimble and the performance has been great in all our Mix Load environments.

IT Contractor at a financial services firm with 51-200 employees
Stable and user-friendly but lacking active clusters
Pros and Cons
- "HPE Nimble Storage is very stable and performs well."
- "HPE Nimble Storage could be improved with some critical application or servers."
What is most valuable?
HPE Nimble Storage's best features are that it's stable and user-friendly.
What needs improvement?
HPE Nimble Storage could be improved with some critical application or servers. Currently, we have to compensate for this by using flash storage. In the next release, HPE Nimble Storage should include active clusters and a hybrid file service.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've been using HPE Nimble Storage for two years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
HPE Nimble Storage is very stable and performs well.
How are customer service and support?
HPE's technical support could be improved, but their response time is quite good, and their remote troubleshooting is quite helpful.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
Previously, we used Compellent, but HPE Nimble Storage's performance is far better and faster. We also use Pure Storage in addition to HPE Nimble Storage as it provides more stable, faster performance and active storage on two different sides.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup was straightforward and took about two weeks to complete.
What about the implementation team?
We used an SI to implement HPE Nimble Storage.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
HPE Nimble Storage's price is moderate - I would rate it at three out of five.
What other advice do I have?
I would give HPE Nimble Storage a rating of seven out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
Private Cloud

Easy to set up, performs well, and the technical support is helpful
Pros and Cons
- "This product is very easy to set up."
- "The quality of technical support depends on which member of the support team you speak with."
What is our primary use case?
I use HPE Nimble for my SAN storage solution.
What is most valuable?
This product is very easy to set up.
The design of the hardware and software lends itself to great performance and redundancy.
What needs improvement?
The quality of technical support depends on which member of the support team you speak with.

I have been familiar with HPE Nimble Storage for some time, but have just started using it six months ago.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Nimble Storage has been stable for me so far.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Scalability has not been a problem.
How are customer service and technical support?
The technical support people are great although, of course, it depends on who you speak with. Overall, however, they are great.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
The only other product that I have experience with is Dell Compellent.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The price is negotiable and when we first received the quote it was expensive, but after dealing with them and receiving a discount, the price is reasonable.
What other advice do I have?
This is a good product and if anybody asks me for SAN storage then I recommend HPENimble.
I would rate this solution an eight out of ten.

Senior IT Infrastructure and Systems Specialist at a energy/utilities company with 501-1,000 employees
Replication is included with no need for additional licensing.
What is most valuable?
- Easy-to-implement snapshot technology
- Replication included with no need for additional licensing
How has it helped my organization?
In addition to exceptional performance and reliability, it covers, "for free", all the needs our primary backup system cannot provide due to costly licensing.
What needs improvement?
The product is near perfect, but there is always room for further development; maybe, more automation in snapshot management.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have used Nimble Storage for about three years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
We have not had any stability issues.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
We have not had any scalability issues.
How are customer service and technical support?
Technical support is excellent.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We had multiple storage solutions that simply got to their EOL.
How was the initial setup?
Setup was relatively simple, even with the very first Bonjour installer.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Our last purchase took place three years ago. I cannot advise on today's market.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
I joined the company after the decision has been made. An external IT provider assisted with making this decision.
What other advice do I have?
Nimble was pretty unique at the time with their new CASL architecture. There are many more products built on the same principles today on the market. So, as usual, shop around before making this strategic decision.
