Our company mainly works with large enterprises such as banks, and Huawei OceanStor Dorado is part of our storage services. Our company uses the product's version 8000. Huawei OceanStor Dorado is used for data migration and storage in banks and other industries like telecom and healthcare. 

Customers utilize the solution in data center operations by storing the main workloads, applications, production storage, block storage, pilot storage, and storage objects. Huawei OceanStor Dorado also assists users in core applications, satellite applications, business analytics tools, dashboards, BI, and AI-enabled features to get the desired results.

Huawei OceanStor Dorado is equipped with powerful controllers. The solution can handle more than 6.4 million IOPS. Huawei OceanStor Dorado offers great scalability. It can manage multiple protocols, like NAS protocol, SAN protocol and object storage protocol. The product is optimized for high-performance computing along with AI capabilities. 

The product should be better aligned with the virtual environments. More protocols and backup features can be added to Huawei OceanStor Dorado. The connectivity of the product can be improved as well. 

I have been using Huawei OceanStor Dorado for four to five years. 

I would rate the stability a nine out of ten. Before adopting the solution, our company carried out extensive diagnosis and stress checks to gauge the product's stability, and positive results were obtained. 

I would rate the scalability a nine out of ten. At our company, we have three to four customers for the 8000 version of Huawei OceanStor Dorado, but we are in the process of increasing the count. Our company uses the product for medium and large enterprises. 

There are very few specialized service partners of Huawei, and even the official support team has fewer professionals than required. Thus, Huawei OceanStor Dorado needs more dedicated partners in leading countries with high storage consumption rates to provide services, deployment, and support.

Very few partners of Huawei OceanStor Dorado have experience in migrating data to version 8000. The certifications for the end-users need to be improved as well, especially for the large-scale customers of Huawei OceanStor Dorado. I would overall rate customer support a six out of ten. 

The support provided by IBM or HP for their storage services is more responsive and experienced through trails and testing of products in comparison to support from Huawei OceanStor Dorado.

I would rate the initial setup an eight out of ten. The Huawei OceanStor DeviceManager can be used in the deployment process, which acts as a comprehensive tool and provides the deployer with complete control of the hardware. At our company, we experienced a smooth installment process when setting up the Huawei OceanStor Dorado. 

The deployment process can be completed within one or two days. Migrating the old legacy data to the new framework is time-consuming, but overall, the product setup is not challenging. 

I would rate the pricing a six out of ten. Huawei OceanStor Dorado is more affordable than the competitor solutions. The price of the product depends upon the customer's nature of business, data size, usability, availability and number of product boxes.  

At our company, it's a generic SLA that maintains the existing tasks with the same configuration, which has been deployed and running. For the same product services, we prefix the charges for annual support, which is procured through a one-time payment. During renewal, the customer needs to make a yearly payment. There are no additional costs associated with Huawei OceanStor Dorado. An additional fee is charged for upscaling the solution for our customers. 

The multiprotocol feature of Huawei OceanStor Dorado has significantly improved storage management for our organization's customers. Before the aforementioned feature was introduced, the product was used to support one single protocol in the legacy storage system.

The solution currently manages object storage using the object data protocol. Huawei OceanStor Dorado allows data storage in one stack; previously, different storage needed to be used for each type of data. Overall, I would rate the product a nine out of ten. 

The product operates as a single technology based out of one country, which is China; it can be considered as one of the advantageous factors. The presence of strong controllers, affordable factors and a robust architecture based on the native motherboards, chips, SSDs, TLCs, SLCs and MLCs. For huge storage capacity requirements where other solutions might fail, Huawei OceanStor Dorado is able to serve the purpose. 

Our primary use case for the solution includes deployments in the financial services industry (FSI), public and private sector. 

The platform's most valuable features are competitive pricing, high I/O performance, and support for NVMe disks. Its impressive speed and functionality make it a cost-effective choice with top-tier performance.

The product's current pricing model involves over 12 different licenses, which can be complex. Simplifying the process would enhance the overall user experience.

I have been working with the Huawei OceanStore Dorado for several years.

The product is stable. 

The platform is highly scalable, accommodating environments from 40 to 50 terabytes without issues.

The support team is responsive and effective in addressing any issues that arise.

The initial setup of this solution was straightforward. It generally takes about three to four hours for initialization.

The implementation was carried out with an in-house team. Two people were involved: one for cabling and rack mounting, and the other for deploying the solution. The process was handled efficiently.

For future releases, it would be beneficial for OceanStor Dorado to integrate advanced analytics and AI-driven functionalities for predictive maintenance and performance optimization. Additionally, enhanced data encryption and security features would be highly appreciated.

We have been utilizing the OceanStor Dorado solution for approximately six years now.

In terms of stability, the product has proven to be a stable and reliable solution, with no complaints or issues reported by our organization.

If you compare IBM storage to Huawei OceanStor Dorado, IBM offers DS8000 storage XIV storage. Huawei also offers several storage models, including their brand OceanStor Dorado. If you compare Huawei storage with IBM storage, IBM is mature and offers more stability of the features and technology. However, the pricing of IBM storage is much higher than the Huawei product. If you're not using it for a critical server, you can use Huawei as the cheaper option. But if you have a critical system, maybe choose something more stable like IBM.

Additionally, the stability could be improved.

I have been using Huawei OceanStor Dorado for two years.

The solution is not stable with the parts. The part is frequently faulty, especially if compared to IBM storage.

I use the solution outside of the company environment.

The tech support is quite good if you can speak Chinese. You can talk to them in English, but if you can speak Chinese, it is much easier to communicate with them.

I previously used IBM storage.

The setup is not very complex. It is quite straightforward if you have basic knowledge.

It took a month to deploy the solution.

After buying the storage, you must set it up for the deployment. To set it up, you need to load a manual. There is no ISO, and there is no installer that can be downloaded, which is different.

We needed an engineer to deploy the solution. One or two engineers are enough to maintain and deploy the solution.

You need to pay for the license.

I rate Huawei OceanStor Dorado a six out of ten.

We are end users and customers of Huawei. I'm a system admin. 

OceanStor has very good capacity; it's effective, works quickly, and is easy to manage. 

The solution requires third-party integrations some of which have agreements and policies that prevent us from using them. If you open an Excel or Word file, for example, and a second person has opened it at the same time, they can't use it because it's already locked by you. Microsoft integration is a problem when the solution is managed by Huawei. 

I've been using this solution for two years. 

The solution is stable.

The solution is scalable, we have around 600 users. We won't need to expand usage in the near future, there's still plenty of space. 

The technical support is good and they are responsible and relatively quick to respond although there are sometimes problems. We inform them when something is missing and they get back to us pretty quickly. 

We previously used Dell EMC. The change to Huawei was a management decision that may have been related to cost. Huawei offers similar features to Dell. 

The initial setup was somewhat complex because it was new to us. We had Huawei support for our setup as well as assistance from a local partner. The deployment was done as an online upgrade so there wasn't any downtime, it was just a matter of switching over from the old storage to the new. That was a big advantage. We took our time and it took about a week to migrate. We used two in-house engineers as well as one from Huawei and one from the local partner. We currently have one person managing the solution. 

I'm not involved with the licensing process but I understand that Huawei is about 50% cheaper than competing solutions.

This is a good solution if it supports your environment. I am lucky to have 20 years of experience with these solutions so I know how to manage things. For those who are less experienced, it can be difficult.

It provides excellent scalability, providing the flexibility to scale both horizontally and vertically. The support team has proven to be reliable. In my region, we have a proficient team addressing issues promptly. I haven't encountered any significant problems with the support system; it appears to be a mature and well-established component of the product. I would rate it ten out of ten.

I would like to emphasize the importance of utilizing fiber channel switches for seamless operations. Given that a significant portion of our storage configuration is handled manually, particularly in cell configuration decisions, our fiber channel infrastructure has been a critical component for about a year now. Overall, I would rate it ten out of ten.
