Oracle OBIEE Valuable Features
It handles large datasets irrespective of performance concerns. Other smaller tools in the market, like Power BI, Microsoft tools, SAP BO, ETC., are not able to handle large data. OBIEE has performance issues, but clients are happy with its stability and want some improvements.

View full review »The solution's most valuable feature is that it is a very comprehensive tool. Oracle OBIEE is a really robust tool for a very large enterprise implementation. Its features in terms of physical data model to logical data model building are all really robust. Though somebody else had developed the tool for the client for whom I used the tool, it was very well done. The data modeling was very well done, and it depends on the person who is executing it, as I hadn't developed it. I had just enhanced it. I had seen whatever my role was, but somebody had initially developed it. It was developed very well. It has a fantastic feature of documenting. When you work with many clients, you see the documentation is always missing, and you end up taking up some other vendor's job. It is usually very hard to figure out technically what was done, what was not done, and where the data is, so the data dictionaries are not up to date, and information documentation is always very poor. Oracle OBIEE has a built-in feature where you can actually create entire documentation of all the data elements and how they are linked, and it throws out HTML documents that are all interlinked, so if you have an entire directory structure, it helps create the document. You can find out which logical model links to which physical table, and it is very easy to identify. There are multiple combinations if you want to identify one particular table and how many models are involved. You just need to click a hyperlink click, and it gives you all the information. If somebody has made any enhancements, you can just regenerate the document as there is a component of the tool that generates the documentation automatically, which is brilliant, I think.

The most valuable feature of Oracle OBIEE is its ability to handle large volumes of data and provide traditional BI functionalities that developers can easily understand. I appreciate how it allows me to view and analyze backend queries, which is helpful for debugging and troubleshooting.
View full review »The data security in OBIEE is superior to other reporting and visualization tools.
Additionally, the complexity that OBIEE can handle in the form of RPD is unmatched. I haven't found this level of complexity in other reporting tools, especially when dealing with complex calculations that are not readily available in the reporting layer. In OBIEE, you can do it in RPD.
So, the two standout features are data security and the ability to handle complexity.
View full review »There are a lot of functions in the product, including a drill-down functionality and level-based hierarchies that are very attractive. Though the tool offers a parent-child hierarchy, I use level-based hierarchies as they have very good functionality. The tool offers a good option known as action links to help with the linking of reports and to deal with master-detail reports. If you want to see the sales from the last year, the previous month, the previous quarter, or a day ago, the tool is helpful with the very good functionalities it offers. In the area of ML, functionalities like forecasting and other features should work properly.

I have not personally used any such products related to this service, however based on the popular opinion, Microsoft Power BI is more popular. We have never switched from this software due to infrastructure and license related costs. However, my team acknowledges that the Power BI is much more enhanced and includes features that are easier to use, including its drag and drop features. I am not sure, if OBIEE has these features, due to lack of updated versions.

Its robustness is most valuable. It can handle massive amounts of data quickly. If it's properly configured and tuned, it can handle massive amounts of data very quickly to produce results. That to me is the number one feature. Everything else after 10 years becomes like second nature.
I find it user-friendly, but some people would argue this point. It's user-friendly in the sense that if you have someone who's properly trained, then it has a user-friendly interface for self-service BI. I used to do training on that product. For someone who is not properly trained, it's difficult.
The solution's most valuable feature is interactive analysis. Also, the layout or design of the report is easy to understand as it is similar to Excel.

View full review »This is an enterprise analytics platform that allows you to do both analytical and real-time reporting. It has a large fleet of products within itself, such as Oracle BI Publisher.
You don't need a lot of time to build and deploy these tools. For the analytical needs, you have OBIEE as a platform where you can build the requirements. You model it, build dashboard reports, and then use it.
Oracle covers all of your reporting needs from an organization standpoint. This application also has a self-service BI, which is an ad-hoc service. It allows businesses to generate their own reports. They don't have to wait for IT to come and do it for them.
It saves a lot of time from a scheduling capability standpoint. If C-level executives want to create more billable reports, they can go down to the granular level of details.
It has good dashboarding. Also, being an Oracle product, it's good for ETLing in and out. It has a very good ETL process to get the data in and out of the data warehouse system. Also, it does have very good integration points to different products, such as Big Data, Hyperion, or Financials. You can pull everything up, project it and dashboard it. It's a good business intelligence platform.

The ability for a user to create their own reports is one of the valuable features. The solution also allows you to manage your access roles, like permissions, directly from the port. There is also a separate enterprise manager where groups and other roles can be created and given access. Finally, if we have certain scripts, we can add chipping into that scheduling function as well as a dashboard and the like. In the newer version, there's a visual analyzer which is more Tableau driven and gives you a free hand. From a user perspective, it's an advantage and will provide us with an additional asset if we do upgrade.

View full review »Just as any business intelligence tool, the top five core expectations of any BI tool is to be able to:
- Build adhoc reports (drag & drop) - for data discovery/exploration as well as to drive insight
- Schedule set cadence reports - to avoid manual running of the report as well as including a broader audience to share with to further avoid any manual bottleneck processes, if this feature were not available
- Visualization and Dashboards - basic & advanced (OBIEE offers both) - adhoc reports/data is great when one has enough time at hand to build great charts. What if the effort can be done just once and used many times? OBIEE out-of-the-box has a great selection of visualization choices, and others can be greatly customized with the right technical expertise
- Offline data availability - OBIEE Briefing Book offers the data to be available even offline, and when connection is available can easily update to get the latest information; as suppose to the alternative of downloading PDF before going offline, and re-downloading when data refreshes
- Customization - I simply cannot think of anything in OBIEE that cannot be customized, not to mention that APIs can also be built on-top for easy data communication with other tools

The most valuable feature of Oracle OBIEE, for me, would be the Web Catalog. From a development perspective, I do not need any client or any software to be installed on my laptop or desktop. Everything is browser-based, so I just open the browser and start development.
Similarly, for the end-user, it provides self-analytics services where the end user can drag and drop various fields, facts, and dimensions and prepare their reports. They can have them in the form of charts, etc. Then they can save them in the Web Catalog.
I have not seen this Web Catalog in any other tool. Web Catalog is kind of like Windows Explorer, where you can define your own folder and whatever analysis you are doing and you can save the analysis for future reference.
View full review »The client required the ability to produce the same reports that they currently produce in Excel (replicating as close as possible to the format as the users were used to this), but distributed via a dashboard/mobile front-end rather than relying on emailing Excel files.
For them, the most important features were the ability to build complex and highly formatted analytic reports, to publish them on dashboards, to build mobile apps to allow access whilst out and about, but still be able to email reports out for those users who still wanted them that way. Including the report in the body of the email to avoid having to open attachments was also desired.
The ability to directly access data in their warehouse rather than downloading into an Excel file was also an important consideration. This is a small company, but growing fast and the amount of data was becoming unwieldy in Excel and would just get worse.
View full review »Some of the most outstanding features of OBIEE is both its scalability and dependability. OBIEE is worthy of its ‘Enterprise’ moniker as it can handle any amount of end-to-end data thrown at it. But these strengths can only be realized if the business and engineering teams work diligently to define not only the various levels of data aggregation, but also clearly define the meta-data in order to establish efficient drill-down hierarchies and relationships.
With proper table design plus good data governance, OBIEE can serve as the central delivery mechanism that brings insight into the business layer of almost any size of company.

Flexibility, scalability, and the speed that you can pull these reports are the most valuable features. Accuracy is also a huge factor because if it's junk in, it's junk out. I'm leading a big data modeling project at the moment. We've been modeling the data properly into a data warehouse. Currently, we've just been using an ETL database and that doesn't really work. The data is not live, it's not instant. The tools plugging into the data warehouse need to produce the results quite quickly and I know the tool is only as good as your data warehouse.

The main features of this solution are that it is easy to use, intuitive, and user-friendly. When I retrieve the data from the database it is in a very raw form, then when I use the Oracle Report Builder it has advanced intelligence features to allow me to view and make changes to the data easily.
View full review »There are many valuable features. For example:
- Multiple data sources: I can easily combine multiple data sources and organize them into a common business model.
- Three-layer repository: With the three-layer repository, the development and interpretation are very simple. The three layers are divided from each other well both in logical and physical meaning. The physical layer is used for importing data, creating aliases, building physical joins, setting up connection pools, managing cache and hints for tables. The business model and mapping layer is used for creating logical columns, fact and dimension tables, hierarchies, measures, using fragmentations and filters, applying business logic. The presentation layer is used to prepare, group and organize the data for users to view.
- Security management: Security management is very detailed, complex and well defined in OBIEE. I can set up everything that I want; user security, object security, row-level security, etc. For example: I can easily connect users with application roles, different application roles with different privileges or set up data filters, other restrictions for users / application roles or manage subject areas/tables/columns access for users / application roles, etc.
- Smart cache management: I can easily manage cache and cache settings. I can use it for common tables only, I can purge it in a scheduled way, etc
- Interactive dashboards and analyses: Lots of rich visualization (dashboards, analyses, graphs, maps, etc); user interactions: drilling, pivoting, filtering, prompting, sorting, navigation and more.
- Spatial integration: Lots of rich map visualizations, many supported map suppliers and a wide range of possibilities to use map data.
- Individual customization using CSS and JavaScript.

- Dashboarding
- Dimensional modeling (Administration tool)
- Security and permissions
For me as a consultant, these are the most valuable features of the product. By using the Analytics feature, users (and consultants) are able to build both simple and complex reports / graphs. The user is able to add complex calculations and to create almost any column he desires.
The Administration tool is the workbench for the implementation consultant; this is where the data warehouse is called, and facts and dimensions are defined and joined. Here we transform data into a business model and make it accessible to the end user. It is possible to join multiple physical sources and combine their data into a single business model. So, if sales are recorded in a sales application and inventory is recorded in a different system, it can be combined right here.
Security and permissions are important when, within a company, specific roles are defined that are (not) allowed to certain areas of data. OBIEEprovides roles and groups and data shielding by role or even user-level to cope with almost any business requirement at this point.

I like the scheduling feature. It has an inbuilt scheduler which is very good, and it allows us to create agents, and those agents can be scheduled. It's quite flexible in that respect and goes into our IT infrastructure. The outputs are sent encrypted to various endpoints. Some are internal, and some are our clients, and it's encrypted at a high level.
I do find Oracle OBIEE flexible. If there is stuff that's not in your model or schema, it's very flexible to create SQL scripts and create the data you want. It's quite nice to create a dashboard in OBIEE, and that's pretty straightforward in the way you drag and drop everything. You can create sections, and you can add elements to your page. That bit of the interface is relatively straightforward.
- Union reports, pivot views, column selectors, action frameworks and write back reports.
- The RPD is also very useful in changing and creating models as per requirements.

I believe the most valuable feature is the ETL, the component to extract the data from the source system.
View full review »The most valuable feature is that we don't have to do anything. They give the code by themselves. We just have to do minor customizations. Its usability is really good. When we implement the tool, we can implement it in a short span of time and start doing enhancements on the basis. It's really good; a good tool.
They offer multiple database support. We can import data from Excel files, CSV files, along with our ERP systems. I just think that’s a cool thing.

Coming into web, we segregated our web interface data entry as opposed to just reporting to OBIEE Analysis. We also have publishers on great front-end tools for the presentation side of it.
