Oracle OBIEE Reviews

It's mainly used in the banking sector. It handles very large datasets and prints extensive reports. We recommend it for that purpose, utilizing features like OBIEE Publisher reports, analytical reports, and others available in OBIEE.

We work with clients who are mostly using Oracle Analytical Services and Oracle Analytical Cloud. We are able to fulfill their requirements, but in some scenarios, we inform them that out-of-box support is not present for certain features.

I have used Oracle OBIEE for a single banking client, but that bank has been merged into another bank, and I took care of the technical part of the merger. To be more specific, more than a bank, it was a mortgage company. All the banking reporting was done through Oracle OBIEE. Oracle OBIEE was already with the customer for whom I was working. The customer I was working for was Oracle's clients.

The solution's most valuable feature is that it is a very comprehensive tool. Oracle OBIEE is a really robust tool for a very large enterprise implementation. Its features in terms of physical data model to logical data model building are all really robust. Though somebody else had developed the tool for the client for whom I used the tool, it was very well done. The data modeling was very well done, and it depends on the person who is executing it, as I hadn't developed it. I had just enhanced it. I had seen whatever my role was, but somebody had initially developed it. It was developed very well. It has a fantastic feature of documenting. When you work with many clients, you see the documentation is always missing, and you end up taking up some other vendor's job. It is usually very hard to figure out technically what was done, what was not done, and where the data is, so the data dictionaries are not up to date, and information documentation is always very poor. Oracle OBIEE has a built-in feature where you can actually create entire documentation of all the data elements and how they are linked, and it throws out HTML documents that are all interlinked, so if you have an entire directory structure, it helps create the document. You can find out which logical model links to which physical table, and it is very easy to identify. There are multiple combinations if you want to identify one particular table and how many models are involved. You just need to click a hyperlink click, and it gives you all the information. If somebody has made any enhancements, you can just regenerate the document as there is a component of the tool that generates the documentation automatically, which is brilliant, I think.

In our BAE project, we use Oracle OBIEE as our internal reporting tool. It helps us generate reports and dashboards for various departments and subject areas within our organization. We rely on OBIEE to access, analyze, and share insights from our data sources.

The most valuable feature of Oracle OBIEE is its ability to handle large volumes of data and provide traditional BI functionalities that developers can easily understand. I appreciate how it allows me to view and analyze backend queries, which is helpful for debugging and troubleshooting. 

Regarding the use cases for the solution, I would like to say that we are a global company providing services related to analytics to 1,00,000 users, hundreds of institutions and libraries, specifically university libraries. So, we provide our services worldwide.

Currently, we are in the process of getting to know about database visualization and understanding its benefits for users. Our goal is to spread awareness about its capabilities among our customers, enabling them to access self-service BI and other valuable features. Additionally, we are exploring the use and relation of machine learning in database visualization, an area of focus for our team.

The primary use case is for our various financial products. One is a trading platform called MarkitSERV. All the world-leading financial institutes are on-boarded to that client. They use the platform for trading. On the backend, we have the data warehouse of that trading platform, which helps produce quick analyses of the trading data and prepare reports on demand. For that purpose, we are using the OBIEE. We have defined a lot of trends in OBIEE so you can compare year-on-year and month-on-month data. We have various ways you can measure your numbers.

Performance is just okay. It doesn't have in-memory data. For every new analysis we prepare, it will go to the database and query the SQL. That takes a long time. That is the main challenge we are facing. People nowadays are very demanding. They want their analysis to come up very quickly, at the click of a button.

The most valuable feature of Oracle OBIEE, for me, would be the Web Catalog. From a development perspective, I do not need any client or any software to be installed on my laptop or desktop. Everything is browser-based, so I just open the browser and start development.

Similarly, for the end-user, it provides self-analytics services where the end user can drag and drop various fields, facts, and dimensions and prepare their reports. They can have them in the form of charts, etc. Then they can save them in the Web Catalog.

I have not seen this Web Catalog in any other tool. Web Catalog is kind of like Windows Explorer, where you can define your own folder and whatever analysis you are doing and you can save the analysis for future reference. 

Integration capabilities with other data sources or systems are on par with other tools for integration. 

It can integrate multiple sources of data and databases, accommodating them within the RPD. Moreover, Oracle is building some advanced analytics capabilities in OBIEE, like predictive analysis.

The data security in OBIEE is superior to other reporting and visualization tools. 

Additionally, the complexity that OBIEE can handle in the form of RPD is unmatched. I haven't found this level of complexity in other reporting tools, especially when dealing with complex calculations that are not readily available in the reporting layer. In OBIEE, you can do it in RPD. 

So, the two standout features are data security and the ability to handle complexity.

First Of I am an Administrator of OBIEE more than a developer or User, so my review will be more from that perspective. OBIEE is now not a big focus area for Oracle given that they now have various cloud PaaS solutions available such as Oracle Analytics cloud that does a similar job. However, OBIEE has always been a complex beast with a lot of not well-integrated moving parts.

Oracle OBIEE has improved our organization by providing business intelligence tools and solutions as advertised. We get the dashboard reports, email blasts, and dynamic access as needed. However, to get the best performance you need to understand and tune the system appropriately. 

Most of the use cases were related to financial reporting, project management, and operations.

One of its main features, which is a feature in pretty much every enterprise product these days, is the ability to see a single source of truth (SSOT). It means that of all the different pieces of information in today's contemporary enterprise, you can identify one set of financials, one set of production data, one set of sales, and one set of marketing data, and you can call that the truth or the gold standard. Everybody who accesses the application can refer to the same truth. This is a major benefit of not only OBIEE but many other products, but OBIEE has been doing that for a long time. Being able to access multiple data sources, being able to pull them all together, and being able to establish the same information that everybody can refer to are some of its benefits.
