Hi John - it is not the BI tool you should worry about as all of them do pretty much the same thing, It is the data that is usually the bigger challenge particularly if some of your clinical data is  coming from EMR's. like Epic or Cerner.  Modeling, Extracting and…

If you mean SAP BusinessObjects, then absolutely, as thousands of manufacturing companies around the world are using it today The Pros are its stability and versatility in producing both operational and BI reports as well as ad-hoc analysis and dashboards. It's semantic…

I do not recommend one specific tool. Use the best tool for the job at hand.

Hi Beth - it's a big question and it really depends on who the users will be and what you are trying to do. Be careful, because I.T. people look at this question differently than business people.  There are a lot of data visualization tools on the market and they can all do…

PowerBI and Tableau are great self-service BI data discovery and visualization tools but not the kind of reporting you describe I would recommend SAP BusinessObjects Web Intelligence which is widely used for this purpose by many organizations in the…

It's not a fair comparison without context Tableau is by far the more popular and accomplished tool with very few organizations using SAC except for point solutions or embedded in one of the SAP applications. SAC is cloud-only whereas Tableau is both on-premise (the…

Tableau is a good Business Intelligence tool for power users who want to explore and visualize data sets. PowerBI is the same type of tool with very similar features. Most business users prefer Tableau over PowerBI but IT tends to prefer PowerBI (which is more I.T…

There is no easy way to convert or replace BusinessObjects which is why most BusinessObjects customers today are in a state of co-existence (BO-Tableau being the most popular followed by BO-PowerBI). Since neither Tableau nor PowerBI are great at BI reporting, customers keep…

Since at least 45% of BusinessObjects customers in North America also use Tableau, you would be a good company using both tools. BusinessObjects is used primarily for BI reporting and Tableau for power users wanting to do data discovery and visualization. Tableau is superior…

I do not think the integration of Design Studio into Lumira as a second client - Lumira Studio - will add very much that would impress an existing Tableau user. I would be interested to hear what your Tableau users think after they have evaluated this.

Unfortunately, Lumira still does not stack up well against Tableau and I think it is too late anyway since at least 40% of BusinessObjects users use Tableau alongside BusinessObjects. Tableau does not replace BusinessObjects because Tableau is weak on BI reporting but it…

It is true that the constant renaming of the Xcelsius products by SAP has caused much confusion along with what each package includes. I would be happy to explain upgrade options for you if you wish to contact me. There are quite a few differences between Xcelsius Engage…

Stuart makes a good point regarding support for Free Hand SQL (FHS) in 4.1 SP6. The Report Conversion Tool (RCT) should now handle conversion of FHS in Deski to FHS in Webi

Happy to help you. It is not necessary to use an Excel spreadsheet with Xcelsius. You can use the Query Browser connector to connect directly to a BOE universe. You can also use the Web services connector, QaaWS and XML connectors to connect to almost any data source.

I agree with Larry Keller's first comment that you should not be comparing Tableau with BusinessObjects - it is like comparing apples and oranges. BusinessObjects is a fully mature Business Intelligence suite which includes powerful analysis and data visualization tools You…

About me

Paul Grill started his career in Information Technology in the U.K. in 1978, as an Executive Data Processing Trainee for Honeywell. More than thirty years later, he still has a voracious appetite for learning as Information Technology continues to advance at an ever accelerating pace. He was first introduced to the world of Business Intelligence in 1991, in France, when he saw a demonstration of an early version of BusinessObjects on Windows 2.1. He returned to the U.S. to rave about this phenomenal product, but it was many years before BusinessObjects made it into the mainstream. Paul founded InfoSol in 1997, and made Business Intelligence one of the key solutions offered by the company. Today, InfoSol is a leading SAP BusinessObjects solutions partner, known for its expert consulting, education and innovative add-on solutions. Paul is well known within the SAP BusinessObjects community for his extensive knowledge of Business Intelligence, and he has lectured and written many articles on the subject. Paul enjoys writing, running and coaching kids soccer, and is passionate about Ancient Egyptology.
