We performed a comparison between Trend Micro Apex One and Trend Micro Smart Protection based on our users’ reviews in four categories. After reading all of the collected data, you can find our conclusion below.
Comparison Results: Users feel Trend Micro Apex One is a solid choice. It is very user friendly and easy to implement. Endpoint security with zero-day vulnerability is extremely valuable. Users feel Trend Micro Smart Protection is lacking in monitoring capabilities to stop threats before they break into the network and damage it, making it a less desirable choice.

"The antivirus is the most valuable aspect of Trend Micro Apex One."
"The most valuable features are reporting and where we have the ability to report back and provide information when an item is quarantined or not quarantined."
"Web reputation and behavior monitoring are valuable features, as they allow us to control which websites users can visit and download from, and to protect against ransomware."
"I use Trend Micro Apex One for work control, application control, firewall, whitelist and blocklist filtration, analysis, monitoring, deep security for the servers, major monitoring, and IPS modules."
"Before Apex One, we used OfficeScan, which Trend Micro acquired, but it was on-prem. We were managing three or four anti-virus solutions. Apex One's cloud model allowed us to decommission the on-prem servers and consolidate. We get all the same features, and everything is upgraded automatically, so we only need to use the software."
"Its threat-hunting capabilities and the information about the known threats are the most available features. It can easily catch any threat in our environment."
"The tool will query the information from the cloud to identify suspicious or malicious files that can be a threat. It will provide you with real-time updates on the latest and ongoing attacks and malware information."
"It is a stable solution."
"The most valuable features are the behavior monitoring, behavior analysis, and web reputation service."
"The solution integrates well with other Trend Micro products."
"Your workstation doesn't slow down, unlike when you use Symantec, for example."
"The scalability works well."
"The administration through the cloud is valuable."
"The most valuable features of the solution are ransomware protection, device control, and DLP."
"Cannot be used on mobile devices with a secure connection."
"The solution should address emerging threats like SQL injection."
"FortiEDR can be improved by providing more detailed reporting."
"There's room for improvement in the quick response time and technical support for integration issues, especially when dealing with multiple vendors."
"The solution is not stable."
"The dashboard isn't easy to access and manage."
"Once, we had an event that was locked and blocked, but information about it came to us two or three days later."
"Everything with Fortinet having to do with their cloud services. They need to invest more in their internal infrastructure that they are running in the cloud. One of the things I find with their cloud environment compared to others' is that they go cheap on the equipment. So it causes some performance degradation."
"The portal is a little bit slow in loading. The cloud portal or management control should be a little faster. There seems to be a lot of load on their servers over there. Maybe they are using one server for multiple customers. It would be great if they can increase server performance in the cloud. Its technical support and reporting can be improved. There is no proper reporting, and there is no PDF or things like that. They should include detailed reporting. An attack happened at a client's site, but we couldn't get the report on the same day. We were unable to provide a detailed report to our client. We approached the technical support, and even they didn't give proper answers. They need to improve the reporting capabilities, or the technical team should support us in providing these reports. They should include reporting in the solution. They should also insert sandbox analysis in Apex One."
"I don't give it a perfect 10 because of the Active Directory integration. It would make things easier if the Active Directory were integrated more seamlessly."
"The DLP model needs improvement."
"One of Trend Micro's weaknesses is its high resource utilization."
"We cover many things, but there is something called ATP, advanced threat prevention. I think they need to invest in this technology."
"The integration capabilities of the solution could be improved."
"There is room for improvement in the reporting aspect"
"This software could affect the performance of your device negatively, particularly causing slow performance after installation."
"The solution’s technical support is not very good and could be improved."
"Documentation-wise, they are a disaster. If you want to know something about Trend Micro, you will not find anything useful from Trend Micro themselves. You have to basically dig some blog, or you need to seek some expert to help you understand what they are offering. I have never seen such a good product with such disastrous documentation. Feature-wise, almost all vendors are providing the same features, but it is all about the integration. For example, Trend Micro is promoting their endpoint protection suite, but they never mention about the integration that they are offering with their EDR solution. They are treating each product as a separate island, and you don't know much about their integration. It would be good if they can focus on integration."
"The pricing of the solution can be improved."
"It is onsite. It does have its challenges in terms of scalability."
"Some functionalities within the DLP can be improved."
"The threat response could be a bit better."
"In the next release, I would like to see a combination of the different features from Apex One and OfficeScan in Trend Micro Smart, rather than as upgraded features."
"No online encryption or cloud services are available for the tool, so my company has to install it mostly in an on-premises environment. Encryption or cloud services need to be made available in the product."
