The initial setup of the Dell EqualLogic PS series is simple. The physical connectivity and rack mounting time depend on the size of the deployment. For example, if we have five of the Dell EqualLogic PS series we can mount and do the cabling within two hours. The initial configuration can be done within an hour. The estimated time to deploy from start to finish in this scenario is four to five hours maximum. One person can do most of the deployment, such as configuration, but a helper is needed to do the mounting of the cables.

The most valuable feature of the solution stems from the peer-to-peer cloning of storage volumes. My company tried to use Dell EqualLogic PS Series as a replication mechanism for our recovery sites where there is enough bandwidth available, and though geographically it is not separate, we were able to do a hardware replication mechanism with the tool's help.

The solution's initial setup process was straightforward. On a scale of one to ten, where one is difficult and ten is very easy, I rate the solution's initial setup a nine out of ten. I don't know how long the deployment process took since it was already deployed before I joined the organization. Also, the solution requires very little maintenance. A person who is a specialist or an IT technician can take care of the maintenance.

"Dell EqualLogic PS series could improve by providing fiber channel connectivity. Fiber channel connectivity is not supported, which is a requirement of advanced applications, such as SAP HANA. SAP HANA recommends fiber channel connectivity, but the Dell EqualLogic PS series is only an ISCSI data storage."
