What is Google Cloud VPN?

Cloud VPN securely connects your peer network to your Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) network through an IPsec VPN connection. Traffic traveling between the two networks is encrypted by one VPN gateway, and then decrypted by the other VPN gateway. This protects your data as it travels over the internet. You can also connect two instances of Cloud VPN to each other.

The most valuable features of Google Cloud VPN are its speed, connectivity, and reliability. It is easy to manage as it is an inbuilt solution from Google. With the infrastructure migrated from data centers to the cloud, services are now easier to provision and scale. Overall, there are fewer outages and issues, and the teams are more knowledgeable.

We were already using Google Cloud for other things. Anything that we couldn't set up with OpenVPN, we would just set up with Google Cloud VPN. The solution has strong documentation for any troubleshooting we need. The solution requires a few updates here and there. Just like with OpenVPN, there's not much that we have to do. Google provides great documentation if we have to do some maintenance, and it's usually just a command we have to run. The solution's connection is smooth and fast, at least for what we need it for. That was a benefit. We didn't have any problems connecting, and it would seem as if we were on the network directly. I would recommend the solution to other users because of its strong documentation, reliability, and connectivity. Overall, I rate the solution an eight out of ten.
