  • "I like the firewall. It integrates with AWS. I can use the Cisco product on an AWS server."
  • "Another area of improvement is scalability."

What is our primary use case?

It's a good network covering and security company for the internet. But I'm done with it. I don't want the security solution.

Now, I try to learn about it. That's it. Not for long-term internet use.

What is most valuable?

I like the firewall. It integrates with AWS. I can use the Cisco product on an AWS server.

What needs improvement?

It should be cheaper. It is expensive. Another area of improvement is scalability.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using this solution for two years.

It is scalable, but not great. It's not bad, but it could be better.

My company is small and I am the only user.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is complex. The deployment takes about two days.

What about the implementation team?

I deployed it myself.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Licensing is expensive. It is a yearly license.

What other advice do I have?

Overall, I would rate the solution an eight out of ten. However, I have not worked with it for a while.

Very reliable, great performance, but a high cost
Pros and Cons
  • "The most valuable feature is performance."
  • "The solution's support can use improvement because they are not very good at following up."

What is our primary use case?

The solution is used to connect to the local area network for the server room to connect our different floors, and levels, to interconnect all the users from different locations within the campus.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature is performance.

What needs improvement?

The solution's support can use improvement because they are not very good at following up. A reduction in cost can improve the solution.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using the solution for over one year.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The stability should be fine because I'm using Cisco, and I think I have no problem with that.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution is scalable.

How are customer service and support?

Whenever we raise tickets we never receive further feedback or callbacks.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Neutral

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We have always used Cisco products.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is straightforward.

Normally, we have a face-to-face implementation, so it could last three to six months for the implementation because there are a lot of teams involved, including security, and application.

What about the implementation team?

The deployment was completed in-house.

What other advice do I have?

I give the solution a seven out of ten.

We currently have 300 people using the solution and will probably be increasing that number in the near future.

We have 46 members on our technical team.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Reliable, works for a long time, and can expand
Pros and Cons
  • "They are very reliable."
  • "The solution is costly."

What is our primary use case?

We are using Cisco switches for the moment, two backbone switches, and we also have firewalls from Cisco.

We use the solution for networking. We are a graphical company making many designs for Corrugated and Offset and so on, and use the solution for communications.

What is most valuable?

They are very reliable. They don't break. We have some old switches and they're still working.

That's one of the things about Cisco - if you buy Cisco you have a good suite.

It's scalable.

The solution is stable.

What needs improvement?

The solution is costly.

The interface is a bit difficult, and you need to have someone that is trained in Cisco on your team in order to take advantage of it properly.

The solution requires a lot of knowledge and training.

It's hard to configure. You need to understand Command-Line.

The solution is stable.

It scales well.

For how long have I used the solution?

We've used the solution for more than ten years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It is a stable, reliable solution. There are no bugs or glitches. the switches are very robust and last a long time. They do not break easily.

I'd rate the solution four out of five in terms of its stability.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution scales well. It's not a problem.

I'd rate the scalability four out of five in terms of how well it expands.

There are about 80 people using the solution in Belgium and 20 in Holland.

How are customer service and support?

We do not use technical support. We have our own person we go to that can help us troubleshoot.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We are currently looking into Fortigate. We are investigating which would be a better switch for us. Cisco is becoming too expensive, and Fortigate is easier to configure. We may also move to Barracuda, which is also simpler.

How was the initial setup?

It was complex to set up. We also have some sites in Holland that we needed as well and then we had to make the VM, and so on.

There was one person, knowledgeable in Cisco, that handled the deployment. He deployed the solution in about two days. He also maintains the product.

What about the implementation team?

We have an internal employee that knows a lot about Cisco and was able to help us with the setup and configuration.

What was our ROI?

We have not calculated an ROI.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

It's an expensive product. Fortinet, for example, is a bit less. That's true for Barracuda as well.

You don't need to buy a license. If you buy a switch, it's your switch. However, the price to purchase just keeps going up and up.

What other advice do I have?

We're customers and end-users.

We are not on the latest version of the solution.

I'd rate the solution eight out of ten. They are good, yet they are also expensive and difficult to configure.

Good support, a straightforward setup, and offers the ability to expand
Pros and Cons
  • "The solution is stable."
  • "They could work on the pricing and make it more affordable for everyone."

What is our primary use case?

The solution lets me connect to so many hosts and the downtime is very, very minimal.

What is most valuable?

What I like most about the product is basically the user support. Sometimes, I'd get stuck on something, and I could contact customer support. They're always there to assist me with my issues.

The initial setup was straightforward.

Technical support is good.

The solution is stable.

You can scale the product as needed.

What needs improvement?

The costs are a little bit high.

They could work on the pricing and make it more affordable for everyone.

If possible, they could have a good customer care system. For example, on a website, I can see issues that have already been raised before. Sometimes I've had an issue, however, it's already been solved, yet I can't find the solution to my problem easily. It should be published and readily available to users.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been working with the solution for four months.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The stability is okay. There are no bugs or glitches and it doesn't crash or freeze. It is reliable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The product can be scalable. It's very, very scalable.

We have about 120 people using the solution right now.

We plan to increase usage as we add more employees.

How are customer service and support?

Technical support has been okay.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We've always used Cisco switches. We have not used anything else.

How was the initial setup?

The solution's implementation is pretty straightforward and simple. It's not overly complex.

Since we were doing it for an entire office, an entire building, it took us a whole week to get everything up and running.

I'd rate the entire process a four out of five in terms of ease of setup.

We have ten technical people that can handle the deployment and maintenance of the solution. We have developers, engineers, and cyber security experts as well as regular IT experts available.

What about the implementation team?

We handled the implementation ourselves in-house. We did not have the help of any consultants or integrators.

What was our ROI?

We have witnessed an ROI with this solution.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The pricing is a little bit expensive. However, it does offer a good value for money. I'd rate it a three out of five in terms of affordability.

What other advice do I have?

I am an end-user. I'm using the latest version of the solution.

I'd advise potential users to just go for it. They will not be disappointed in this product.

I would rate the product an eight out of ten.

A highly stable solution that enables user connectivity and provides excellent technical support
Pros and Cons
  • "Cisco products are always stable."
  • "The product’s price is a bit high."

What is our primary use case?

The product can be used for user connectivity.

What is most valuable?

Cisco products are always stable.

What needs improvement?

The product’s price is a bit high.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have deployed the solution for our customers.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The tool is quite stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The tool is scalable. In my previous organization, I had a team of 20 engineers. Many of our customers were using the solution.

How are customer service and support?

The support is very good.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

The choice of product depends upon the customer’s requirements and budget. If the customer cannot afford Cisco, we may suggest they use D-Link or TP-Link.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is straightforward. I'm an expert in Cisco, so I don't have any problem setting it up. The deployment, along with the configuration, would take one hour. If we do not want advanced requirements like management, we can just plug it in, and the users can start working. If it is modular, we need to take care of the modules.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

We have to pay a yearly licensing fee for the solution.

What other advice do I have?

The price is the only concern. The product and the support are excellent. I would recommend the solution to others. Cisco must provide a product for users who have low budgets. Overall, I rate the tool a ten out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Stable, reliable, and good support
Pros and Cons
  • "Cisco Linksys Ethernet Switches is a stable solution."
  • "The sales support could improve, they are not supplying the solution on time. For some projects, we have had to wait many months."

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Cisco Linksys Ethernet Switches for approximately seven years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Cisco Linksys Ethernet Switches is a stable solution.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The Cisco Linksys Ethernet Switches are scalable.

We have approximately six people using the solution.

How are customer service and support?

The support from Cisco Linksys Ethernet Switches was not very good prior to 2019. However, the support has improved and is not a problem anymore.

The sales support could improve, they are not supplying the solution on time. For some projects, we have had to wait many months.

How was the initial setup?

The deployment difficulty level of Cisco Linksys Ethernet Switches depends on the requirements of the client. If the IT person from the client's side is good the implementation will be fine. If not the implementation will be difficult.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The price of Cisco Linksys Ethernet Switches is higher than competitors, such as Huawei.

What other advice do I have?

I rate Cisco Linksys Ethernet Switches a nine out of ten.

Fast, maintenance-free, and reliable
Pros and Cons
  • "Their speed and their ability to handle the network well are the most significant aspects of the product."
  • "They just need to simplify the learning curve."

What is our primary use case?

We’ve used a lot of the product. We use them for switches.

What is most valuable?

Their speed and their ability to handle the network well are the most significant aspects of the product. I remember an incident where we bought a different unbranded switch and had many network issues. We had to discard it and buy a Cisco switch. Once some routers and switches from China were installed, the network became very problematic. The only solution was to buy a Cisco switch, replace it, and it was able to handle the network reasonably well, the users and everything. The bandwidth was perfect after replacing those with Cisco. I trust the products from that perspective. They're able to deliver where they promise.

What needs improvement?

They just need to simplify the learning curve.

For how long have I used the solution?

We’ve used the solution for about ten years now.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Cisco is number one in terms of stability.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The switches are entirely scalable. They can handle heavy traffic - even with spikes in demand. Definitely, with the spikes during, for example, lunch hour and everybody wanting to connect to the internet, it handles the uptick well, so it's highly scalable. It can handle varying loads.

Over 400 people connect to the network.

We do plan to increase usage.

How are customer service and support?

The tech support is good.

How was the initial setup?

Cisco products require some knowledge of it. Most of them are not plug-and-play. You will have to have some knowledge in configuring them, specific knowledge for them. They're good. However, for advanced setups, even advanced security and everything, it requires somebody knowledgeable in Cisco systems.

Deploying it took a more extended period to set everything up and running, compared to other products, compared, let's say, to other companies, for example, Tenda or Huawei. Compared to a Huawei switch, a Cisco switch will require to take some more time to do the configuration and everything. It took some time to get it perfectly running.

It doesn't require much to maintain. Once they are set up, maintaining them is very easy since they're quite reliable and stable. For us, two people for a company of 400 will handle the network perfectly. We have two network engineers for a company with 400 to 500 people, so that speaks to the stability of their products. They don't need to be micromanaged every now and then.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Most of them, once you buy, is a one-off payment, so you don't have to re-apply year and year, like buying licenses and stuff. Once you buy, that's it. They were quite expensive.

What other advice do I have?

We’re using the latest version of the solution. We had some switches replaced this year; they're the latest version. Our network team keeps them updated, and they do all the security, et cetera, on the firewalls and routers from Cisco.

I can recommend Cisco switches any day.

I would rate Cisco products at nine out of ten.

Product failed in our industrialized environment. We did like the web GUI and SNMP.
Pros and Cons
  • "Manageable features, which we heavily used like web GUI and SNMP."
  • "Make them tougher and more ruggedized for warmer and Industrial types of environments, and HumiSeal the main boards and internal components."

What is our primary use case?

Manufacturing, server room, and office areas of former employer. Switches were great, except in the factory area, because the product is warmer. This was a machine shop with a lot of water-based coolant vapor in the air. This coalesced on cables, etc., and it made things sticky way up toward the ceiling where the switches and Cat 5 cables ran. I suspect that the coolant got into the switch and killed it. We replaced, then did it again.

How has it helped my organization?

They did not because in the factory area they kept failing, otherwise they were fine. That was not good enough after three Cisco and three Netgears all failed.

What is most valuable?

Manageable features, which we heavily used like web GUI and SNMP, except they failed in our environment. Unfortunately, this made them a wash for us. ProCurve switches were what replaced them eventually.

What needs improvement?

Make them tougher and more ruggedized for warmer and Industrial types of environments, and HumiSeal the main boards and internal components.

For how long have I used the solution?

One to three years.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

Eventually, we gave up using this product. We switched to Netgear ProSafe switches in the factory. We received the same result. What was weird was the web GUIs of both models failed as did SNMP and other features. Only basic plug and play features of switching seemed to work, but you could not ping the switches (managed models were all we used) and all of the management was dead.

What is interesting with Netgear: They allowed me to open our switch after three of theirs failed in the same way. I went through six switches in less than two years in this factory environment. Netgear allowed me to spray HumiSeal into their switch. I disassembled it, sealed the ports off, sprayed and dried the entire main board, then reassembled it. It still failed in the same fashion months later.

Eventually, we replaced it entirely with HPE ProCurve switches. They have never failed and still run to this day.
