Very good real-time monitoring capabilities, deep problem diagnosis, and transaction mapping
As for areas of improvement, AppDynamics could benefit from greater integration with emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and machine learning. This would allow the tool to automatically analyze and correlate application performance and behavior data to detect patterns and anomalies not evident to users. Additionally, the ability to track performance in multi-cloud environments would be valuable as many organizations are adopting hybrid cloud or multi-cloud strategies. In terms of additional features, it would be beneficial to include a capacity management module that allows operations teams to proactively plan and adjust capacity, avoiding performance issues related to lack of resources.

Easy to use and the dashboard is very intuitive
The solution is mainly used for stack observability. It observes service behavior or any kind of failure that may be happening. The tool is also related to research. My company is working more on this, but I have been working on my SLOs and defining SLOs for the last seven months The solution's…

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It has improved our organization with its ability to catch issues quickly and fix them."
"The transaction snapshots let you find out where the application broke; it pinpoints where in the call stack, and then how long it took to resolve."
"Capacity planning is, in my opinion, the most useful."
"This solution is easy to use and very powerful, it is a complete tool for us."
"Despite dozens of deployments across hundreds of applications- we have yet to see a case where AD is negatively impacting application execution or functionality."
"It's good for a larger scale deployment such as what my company is working on."
"That visual representation’s been really good, also the overhead that AppDynamics creates is quite small. We've tried Dynatrace in the past. Some of the applications didn't work as well with Dynatrace."
"From the performance management side, I like everything from business transaction work to tracking. On the database side, we can get a lot of insights from the database. On the server monitoring side, it helped us a lot to find out some of the issues on the VM side because VMs were creating a little trouble for us."
"The solution's initial setup process was straightforward since we were getting enough support from Honeycomb.io's team."
"The solution's most valuable features are the queries for the OpenTelemetry events and all the tracing."

Cons

"Its resiliency can be improved. We're told that the best we can do with an on-prem solution is to have a hot standby that requires a manual switchover. So, it is a do-it-yourself Ikea model of maintaining data consistency between two servers, without having low balance or failover considerations for an on-prem solution."
"Their support should be improved. Clusters and monitoring can also be improved."
"More native support for other hardware is needed because having to install various extensions and perform extra setup for different devices is really challenging, and not as easy or straightforward as it is in other products."
"We would love to see support for more types of agents in the mainframe world."
"SQL statement monitoring"
"The solution could improve by covering more technologies. For example, it does support .NET Core applications. However, it could be a bit better."
"The solution is available at an inflated cost"
"There could be some improvement in the constructions of the diagrams, it is too difficult currently."
"We can make alerts based on static numbers, which may block us from building alerts that could be generic enough or could be serviced."
"The process of log scraping gets delayed on Honeycomb.io. At times, it gives false alerts to the application team."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"I would like more flexible pricing: A pay-per-use model, rather than just a fixed-price model."
"The way it is structured in terms of price could be better. You pay for individual modules and that adds on to the cost, which detracts you from implementing those modules and slows you down."
"Yearly payments have to be made toward the licensing costs of the solution. The solution has no additional costs apart from the licensing costs."
"There is no standard license instead, the license is adapted to the organization's requirements."
"We are looking forward to purchasing the solution on the AWS Marketplace."
"The solution is highly expensive"
"It would be better if there were more solutions incorporated into the base price. "
"We do not have any issues with the price."
