Straightforward to set up with easy of capturing database changes and secure storage
We are setting up CDT jobs to get database changes from AWS RDS. We are not really migrating anything, but we get the changes from our source RDS instance and save it as a file in an S3 bucket For our continuity planning, we need all the history happening in the source database because AWS source…

Automates manual activities and has helpful documentation that allows users to self-study
What could be improved in SnapLogic is that it was not capable in terms of processing a large number of datasets, but at that point, SnapLogic was evolving. It didn't give a lot of Snaps. I heard recently there are a lot of Snaps getting added and the solution was being enhanced, particularly to connect different data sources. When I was working with SnapLogic six months to one year back, I faced the issue of it not being capable of handling a huge volume of datasets or didn't have much of Snaps, and that was the drawback. If there is any large number of data sets, that's based on or depends on your configuration. If it is a huge volume of data, other traditional ETL tools such as Informatica and Talend can process millions and billions of records, while in SnapLogic, the Snaplex fails or it returns an error in terms of processing that huge volume of data. Informatica, Talend, or any other ETL tool can run for hours in terms of jobs, while SnapLogic jobs fail when the threshold is reached. SnapLogic isn't able to withstand processing, but I don't know if that's still an issue at present, because the solution is getting enhanced and it's been more than six months to one year since I last worked with SnapLogic. There are now a lot of Snaps getting added to the solution, and if it can overcome the limitations I mentioned, SnapLogic could be the go-to tool because currently, it's not being used as much in organizations. It's being used comparatively less compared to other retail tools.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"What I like about AWS Database Migration Service is that it's a good product that allows you to migrate terabytes of data. My team was able to migrate almost 16TB of data using AWS Database Migration Service. The solution works fine for my use case."
"The tools are very user-friendly."
"The most valuable feature is its ability to get all the changes in our data and store that in an S3 bucket."
"Scalable and stable solution for migrating databases to AWS, with valuable features such as parallel full load and continuous data replication."
"We particularly like that this solution has the facility to integrate with all ETL tools."
"The database migration services allow us to do real-time synchronization of on-premise and database to plan out our releases."
"The solution is stable and reliable."
"The most valuable feature of AWS Database Migration Service is it catches all the history changes, such as inset, observe, and delete. It tracks everything."
"The initial setup is very straightforward."
"They are very good at building out new aspects according to customer requirements."
"The API architecture makes it easy for orchestration."
"The connection with SOAP is the best feature."
"By using snaps instead of functions in code, you can see the building blocks of the integration visually. This helps a lot."
"SnapLogice is a low-code development tool."
"You can use other languages, such as Python, and easily connect to other systems."
"The solution is easy to implement and easy to use. It's basically just drag and drop."

Cons

"There are a set of complexities and challenges when a user wants to integrate AWS products with Microsoft products."
"The live duplication has a delay of two minutes, which can be an issue."
"Database Migration Service could be more integrated. I think that it makes sense to add integration to these functions. For example, AWS Glue has a feature called Orchestrator to create data flows, and that's more straightforward."
"Support could be more expedient. Right now I am waiting on support for an extension."
"Sometimes, the migration processes are not manageable"
"The cost is a concern. We use DMS because of its simplicity, but the price could definitely be more competitive."
"One area that AWS DMS can improve on is its conversion of data types. For example, in Oracle, you have a data type called RAW, but in PostgreSQL there is no such thing. Thus, AWS DMS doesn't know what type I want to use when migrating from Oracle to PostgreSQL, and when performing the migration, AWS DMS changed the RAW data type to the byte data type, which isn't what I wanted."
"If they had some sort of functionality where, at a specific point in time, if I want to start a new job, it should automatically pick up from where it has been left rather than having people worry about the exact job number and the timing."
"SnapLogic sits somewhere in the middle. It doesn’t offer enough easy canned integrations for its users like some of the easier to use integration apps."
"There is room for improvement with APM management and how task execution looks."
"Connecting to data behind enterprise firewalls has been tricky."
"It needs some more snaps. I would like to see some of the features be changed in some of the snaps."
"They should expand in terms of features for SaaS-based market requirements in different sectors."
"One area for improvement in SnapLogic is the transparency in the flow of data. It needs to have more transparency. Right now, users only have a preview option at the end of any job flow, so at the end of any Snap Pack, there is a data preview option that lets you review the data and see how it's moving. What would make the solution better is more debugging and more access to change data from the preview panel or more functionality in terms of the preview option."
"SnapLogic doesn't provide any on-premises software, so users have only cloud-based software to use."
"One of the areas for improvement in SnapLogic is that the connectors for some of the applications should be more available in terms of testing in the dev environment. Another area for improvement is that the logging should be standardized, for example, the integration with an ELK stack should be required out-of-the-box, so you can ship the log and have it in the ELK stack. There should be integration with ELK stack for the log shipping."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"For Egypt, the product's prices are high, making it a specific problem in one region and not globally."
"I rate the product price a seven on a scale of one to ten, where one is a high price, and ten is a low price."
"The pricing can be better and it should be more competitive."
"The pricing is per hour, though I do not have the exact figures. If you have specific questions about the service, a personal support team from Amazon is available, but this will bring in additional costs."
"Cost is the only factor that is challenging."
"The product is pretty expensive"
"AWS Database Migration Service is very inexpensive."
"Pricing for the solution is reasonable, but could still be reduced."
"They have pricing/usage tiers that are easy to move up or down."
"From the ROI perspective, the price is extremely high"
"The cost with SnapLogic is an annual license and better than Informatica."
"The pricing is okay."
"The license model is based on consumption."
"It is a higher initial cost than other easy-to-use integration apps."
"When comparing it with solutions like Apigee or MuleSoft, it still offers better value."
"I used the free trial."
