We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The most valuable feature is the dashboard, where I can have a single screen that provides a summary for hundreds of servers.""You want to monitor a specific metric that nobody else has? You can do it even with the most basic of scripting skills, and you can always share it with the vast community of Nagios Exchange.""The most valuable features of Nagios XI are you can customize it based on your use case and requirements. It is flexible and easy to integrate with our systems. You can customize the solution by adding additional features using code.""The most valuable feature is the monitoring of processes.""The most valuable feature is its support for different types of devices, where it can use all of the equipment that you need.""The solution has a lot of plugins and scripts integrated with it.""I can monitor a phone on a desk to very big servers of any company.""Nagios XI helped me to draw the network and check for system failures."

"Nutanix Prism is popular in the Indian market, particularly in enterprises where they need a DR type of environment, and where they look for less than finite RPO and RTO. If you have this environment on-premises, and if you can just rent out some portion to any of the service providers, then you can easily set up a DR environment to give you a finite list versus RPO and RTO.""There are so many valuable features but Nutanix Flow for microsegmentation of the network, and the Life Cycle Manager for dating hardware and software are among the most important for us.""Prism Central is a single point to manage every cluster. Everything can be managed in one panel. Everything is there on the main page of the dashboard.""The most valuable feature is the solution's single-pane-of-glass approach to consolidating all of the various metrics and interfaces that I would typically have to access via multiple screens in other products. The ease of use would probably be the single biggest selling point.""The most valuable features are Prism Central and the Disaster Recovery.""The centralized management of Nutanix Prism is the best feature.""Duplication and compression work for data in a hybrid solution.""I am very satisfied with the technical support."

Cons
"The product does not have SAP monitoring.""The scalability of Nagios XI is scalable. However, it is not easy to do.""The product could be optimized to improve the administrative user experience via the Nagios Core Configuration (NCC) GUI module.""They need more documentation for the plugins.""The installation and monitoring need improvement.""The product's stability could be even better.""It is really difficult to integrate Nagios XI with another system to generate logs and alert our management of failures in security infrastructure.""The PNP4Nagios plugin not working easily with XI is an issue for me, because some open source monitoring plugins do not work out of the box. But in the end, you learn to live with it."

"Nutanix Prism can be more stable because it's not as stable as VMware.""There is a bug with the HTML5 interface.""The product currently fails to provide a complete view to customers.""There are no firewall policies.""Performance metrics and analytics could be improved.""Although this solution has very good analytics capabilities, it can be even more granular.""The interface is good, but it needs improvements. There are a lot of functions that are only available in the CLI. In addition, some of the hardware components could be improved. We already had some trouble with disks.""The main area where an improvement could be made would be the pricing."

  • "The license for Prism is costlier than other VMs."
  • "We have spent a lot of money on the Nutanix solution with Prism. Yet, for this amount of money we could be buying high-end storage with a lot of IOPS and bandwidth, even more than with Nutanix."
  • "Nutanix have bundles for pricing. On a single bundle, we get everything including vSAN or VMware and there are no additional costs. It is just a single license that is needed."

I have researched a quite a few network monitoring tools which can be used for various monitoring purposes of not only the servers, but the intermediate routers as well. There are majorly three types of these softwares. Ones which are completely open-source, you can do almost anything you want using these, but they require quite some expertise before you can use them. Then there are the ones that are not open source, the enterprise softwares and cost you some money, but on the other hand, they are extremely easy to set-up and learn. You can have them up and running in a matter of minutes. And then there are those which are completely cloud based. They can be free of cost or charge some money depending on the software. The good thing about these is that you don’t have to install any extra software, and it can be managed completely online but then again these have limited features and you cannot exploit them to the full extent as you can do with the open-source and to some extent the enterprise software, so I won’t suggest you to use these, because these are generally not the complete solutions and require other support software to achieve the same. Below I have listed the outstanding pros and cons of the various Network analyzers that you can look into Nagios Pros: Nagios offers an extensive set of collector plug-ins that allows users to gather performance and availability data from a broad range of operating systems, including  Windows and Netware Nagios… Read more →
