My understanding is that IBM is actually shutting down the solution. They're moving to something called Digital Business Automation because Case Foundation uses a workflow engine that is relatively outdated. They haven't updated it in seven years. Instead, they're moving to a new line of products. They do the same thing but in a more modern and flexible way. A newer version will need better security, email integration, and scripting.
The service as it currently stands is out-of-date and lacks flexibility.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've been using the solution for 2.5 years.

The stability of the solution is okay.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The solution is scalable.
How was the initial setup?
If an organization does a base installation, it's not that complex to set it up.
The problem is that instructions are not that easy to come by and not really available or very helpful if you can find them.
To get the project running completely, meaning implementing an actual solution completely for a customer, that will depend on what the customer wants. This can be extremely complex for certain clients.
The main deployment may take one to two weeks, however, full implementation can be anywhere from three months to a full year.
The customer plays a big role in implementation. For example, at the beginning of the project, you do a business analysis with them and collect data. They approve the design and everything else after that. You may run into problems where the customer changes the design as the project rolls out. That extends the project drastically.
What was our ROI?
The solution isn't really the type of product that provides ROI. It's more of a support product; it's not aimed for financial gains or savings. Its purpose is very intangible. You allow employees to apply for leave easier, or you optimize your correspondence, which doesn't really translate to ROI.
What other advice do I have?
We use the on-premises deployment model. We're an IBM partner. We have about six projects ongoing in which we are implementing the solution for clients.
As this solution is being phased out, I'd advise others to go with something newer. Also, be sure you do a proper design study before implementing a solution.
I'd rate the solution six out of ten. In terms of rolling out deployments, it's good and there aren't really any bugs. However, it has a general lack of features.

What is most valuable?
The most valuable feature is the flexibility and the ability to divide search screens and to search for documents. The ECM feature inside the system is great. Everything you need from modern ECM, you can find in this system.
What needs improvement?
My only thought on how the product could be improved would be the addition of some features that could be enhanced like the document viewer but I think the product is very good.
I think some enhancements could be included in the next release. The content navigator is very good, and the viewer too. They could include music on the navigator, features like that. They need to concentrate on the document viewer itself which needs to be enhanced to manage the document comparison feature. It would be great if that were included.

I've been using the solution for almost 10 years.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is somewhat complex and needs to be simplified.
What other advice do I have?
It's a very good solution. I would rate it a 10 out of 10.

It definitely has provided better proficiency in our business processes. The user does not need to look for and launch something on their own. It can be launched automatically. It provides the capability of doing system integrations, again, without having a need for a user to launch a specific process.

It provides us the capability of producing business processes for documents that are launched immediately when a document comes into the repository.

I rate it a six out of 10, mostly because of not using the other Case Manager in BPM enough. Case Foundation, we're all over that. We're using it considerably. But, again, maybe a little bit of a hurdle in what's next or how to implement that next step.

This is a very stable solution and I use it on a daily basis. It has not been a problem.

What is our primary use case?
We primarily use the solution as a correspondence system. We also use it for procedures and implementation as well.
What is most valuable?
The client and the IBM content navigation are the solution's most valuable features.
The product allows us to easily customize at each step.
What needs improvement?
The solution needs more courses based on Dojo programming and Dojo processes.
Their Java updates need to be reconsidered. I heard they would be removed, but that hasn't happened yet. They should support BPM language.
Comparing the solution with other interfaces, IBM BPM is much better than Case Foundation. They need to make this solution's interface more user-friendly.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
I consider the solution to be very stable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The solution is largely scalable, but it depends on the case. If it's something that's not too complex, it should be alright.
How are customer service and technical support?
There are no specific problems per se with technical support but sometimes we find they have a shortage of documentation that could help with troubleshooting.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is straightforward. Deployment takes one or two days depending on the environment.
What other advice do I have?
We use the on-premises deployment model. In the past, I've developed solutions based on Case Foundation. We're partners with IBM.
I'd rate the solution eight out of ten.
