Mature and helpful support but is out of date
Pros and Cons
  • "It has worked fine for many years."
  • "World is old, so everybody is looking to just upgrade or migrate from it."

What is our primary use case?

We primarily use the solution for finance, procurement, and capital asset management, among other things.

What is most valuable?

The solution is very mature.

It has worked fine for many years.

It's stable.

It has been able to scale.

Support was always helpful.

What needs improvement?

World is old, so everybody is looking to just upgrade or migrate from it. The client has used it for the past 18 or 19 years. They've outgrown World, so they want to move from World to EnterpriseOne or Fusion.

The solution is out-of-date and no longer supported.

It's a command-based system. Everybody these days wants a good grid to use.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've used the solution for the last 12 months at last. I have a client using it currently and I help support them.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It is very stable. World is one of the most stable ERPs, I would say.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

World was scalable. As our business grew, business processes were reviewed, and they were able to implement them in World. As of now, World works for them. Obviously, if they wanted to implement some new things like interfaces with other systems, World would be struggling. That is the main reason why the client wants to upgrade or change their software.

How are customer service and support?

Support is good. When we were doing the capital asset management, we escalated a few issues to technical support to resolve those. We were happy with the level of service.

Usually, they'll just give you scripts to run. Their response is always really good.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

This customer currently wants to upgrade, so they're looking to go to either EnterpriseOne or maybe Oracle Fusion.

How was the initial setup?

Originally, the initial setup was fine. It was fun. However, now it is harder. It's not getting updated. Not much is changing on it. Likely no one will be installing it anymore.

I was involved in this World implementation way back. It wasn't difficult. Basically, they would give you a task, and then you go through the task. It was fun then. Now, you have to always remember a lot of commands to be able to use it, and nobody does that now.

It is not difficult to maintain. If you know what you're doing, it's okay. Obviously, the IBM box is where there will be challenges. When your hardware goes off, then you have to find people with that skill set to come in and deploy for you.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I'm not sure of the exact pricing.

What other advice do I have?

I started working with JD Edwards World 7.3. I worked with 9.1 and then now EnterpriseOne.

It's difficult to compare this solution to the modern ERP solutions out there. It's very dated. I wouldn't recommend it to others as it is out of date. I'd rate it six out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

On-premises

Easy to set up with the capability to expand as necessary but needs more graphic dashboards
Pros and Cons
  • "We've found the initial setup to be easy."
  • "The integration technology could be stronger at this point."

What is our primary use case?

I'm using the solution for financials, taxes, supply areas, and backup functionalities.

What is most valuable?

The functionality just related to integration is the most valuable aspect of the solution.

The solution is stable.

The scalability of the product is great.

We've found the initial setup to be easy.

What needs improvement?

The integration technology could be stronger at this point.

There could be some more functionality related to the dashboard to check information using reports in a graph view. It could be more manageable.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using the solution for four years. I've used it for a while at this point.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution has very good stability. There aren't any bugs or glitches. It doesn't crash or freeze. It's reliable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The scalability potential is strong. The solution can expand as needed. It's not a problem.

How are customer service and support?

I don't handle troubleshooting aspects of the solution. I've never directly dealt with them and therefore can't comment on their level of service.

How was the initial setup?

The solution is very easy to set up. It's not a complex or difficult process. A company shouldn't have any issues.

What other advice do I have?

We are a customer and an end-user.

I'd advise potential new users to understand better the requirements and check how their other applications can connect with the ERP before starting out.

I'd rate the solution at a seven out of ten.

Convenient and flexible for users
Pros and Cons
  • "I think JDE ERP is very flexible and very convenient for the users. I think EnterpriseOne is more convenient for users to do the inquiry and do the data entry. The UI is better than JDE World. For JDE products, including the World version, is very flexible. It's a good product for clients."
  • "I have more than 18 years of JDE experience in JDE EnterpriseOne and World versions. I think JDE is good but compared to SAP and Oracle EPS, we can see which area needs to have some improvement for JDE."

What is our primary use case?

With the World version, we use the finance module, distribution module, and the manufacturing module.

What is most valuable?

I think JDE ERP is very flexible and very convenient for the users. I think EnterpriseOne is more convenient for users to do the inquiry and do the data entry. The UI is better than JDE World. JDE products, including the World version, is very flexible. It's a good product for clients.

What needs improvement?

I have more than 18 years of JDE experience in JDE EnterpriseOne and World versions. I think JDE is good but compared to SAP and Oracle EPS, we can see which area needs to have some improvement for JDE.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using JD Edwards Worlds for three to four years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

JDE World is more stable than JDE EnterpriseOne. For JDE EnterpriseOne, the Integrity part will generate some errors. Since they have low Integrity, we get some duplicate records in the accumulator table. This is an issue.

For this type of issue, that will cause maybe the losses, it is about a single step or a single web program.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

A main difference between EnterpriseOne and World is the user interface, they are different. JDE is totally web-based system already. But for the JDE World, I think they need to use a CS program to access the server and then do the operations.

There is some type of difference between JDE EnterpriseOne and JDE World version. The table is not the same. Most of them are the same, but some tables are different.

The server is also a difference. For the JDE World version, they normally use the IBM X400 servers. But for JDE EnterpriseOne, they can build on the Intel servers.

What other advice do I have?

I would rate JDE World and eight out of ten.

I would like to see performance monitoring improve. Since I have experience with SAP, I know they have some program to monitor the performance, they can know what the current CPU is and what the program status is. But in JDE, I don't know whether they have enough programs to do the monitoring for the performance.

I would recommend EnterpriseOne over World. I have done a comparison between JDE, SAP, and EPS, I think JDE is the best amongst these three ERPs. I'm in China and JDE has very few customers here. I think the root cause is the cost strategy. Their sales strategy is wrong.
