The full integration has been great. Its infrastructure and its ability to be part of the whole application are very useful for organizations.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The stability is good. Our customers don't seem to have any issues with bugs or glitches. It doesn't crash or freeze.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
I haven't really dealt with scaling the solution. I can't speak to how it is.
How are customer service and support?
I've never been in contact with technical support in the past. I can't speak to how helpful or responsive they are.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I also have experience using Red Hat. However, sometimes I have had some problems with it. It can be a bit more difficult in terms of integration with other vendors.
How was the initial setup?
I didn't actually handle the implementation. I'm working more on the design side, not on setup or configuration. Therefore, I can't speak to how easy or difficult the implementation process is for users.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The licensing is complex. Sometimes I have trouble understanding it.
What other advice do I have?
We are VMware integrators and partners.
I'd advise new or potential users to be aware that you will have to integrate it with other solutions. You'll need to look at how it fits in with all of your infrastructure, including IT infrastructure, for example.
I'd rate the solution at a nine out of ten. It's been very good overall.

What is most valuable?
Some of the key features I find most valuable are the highly graphical user interface, virtualization of networks, and Microsoft application compatibility. It has all the functionality that we require.
What needs improvement?
One drawback is this solution requires a lot of other products in the VMware ecosystem to have a full end-to-end operation orchestration monitoring. You have to buy a lot of add-ons to fully utilize the functionality.
Some additional features in the next release could be for the solution to be more directed toward the end-to-end functions, from physical to virtual monitoring. It should also include streamlined troubleshooting of our operation.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have used the solution for approximately two years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The solution has been stable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
I have found the solution to be highly scalable.
How are customer service and technical support?
The experience we have had with the solutions technical support has been wonderful.
How was the initial setup?
The setup was straightforward and it took a few weeks.
What other advice do I have?
I would recommend the solution. I would like to point out this is a vendor-lock-in solution, where the user might be confined to a certain vendor for some time before they can move on adopting other vendors.
I rate VMware NSX an eight out of ten.

Pre-Sales Engineer at a tech services company with 51-200 employees
Open APIs allow seamless integration with other products.
What is most valuable?
Open APIs allow seamless integration with other products. Eventhough Lastline does not provide an end-to-end solution like their rivals, namely McAfee, TrendMicro and Symantec, Lastline excels by providing their APIs so that they could be integrated with other security products.
How has it helped my organization?
With Lastline, the effort to put in into the protecting the users against zero-day threats and malware can be subsequently reduced. It's accuracy and analysis reports on the objects are what all the other vendors should make an example of.
What needs improvement?
Lastline's reports can sometimes be very complicated and somehow leaves users with lots of technical information that cannot be easily digested. A more presentable reporting should be provided. However, this is not a weakness and their reporting is only suitable for people with certain technical knowledge.
Lastline itself is a complicated product to navigate through, although it provides a lot of details to the users. This was a feedback from one of our customer here during the POC stage. Users may be required to be technically sound to understand what Lastline has provided to them. What I mean by "a more presentable reporting" is that Lastline should provide a more user readable format of the report; perhaps more visual storyline of their process?
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using and performing POC on Lastline for my customers for around 1 year.
What was my experience with deployment of the solution?
No issues.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
No stability issues.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Lastline has no issue with scalability as it is by far the more scalable amongst APT solutions.
How are customer service and technical support?
Customer Service:
Lastline support has yet to fully penetrate into the SEA market. Their responses may come from their Sales and System engineers instead of their support team.
Technical Support:As mentioned, their system engineers are very well trained and experience enough to answer most of the technical and product inquiries thrown at them.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
No.
How was the initial setup?
Initial setup is very straightforward for cloud-based deployment. For on-premise deployment, it will require some UNIX-based commands knowledge.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Lastline is not a cheap product if compared with their competitors. I wish they could do something about the pricing as it is very hard to convince the customers on such a model.

VMware Technician Manager at VAS
Provides more security and micro-segmentation but needs to support more platforms
Pros and Cons
- "It gives more security and micro-segmentation. It helps to set network configurations in an easy way."
- "VMware NSX only supports some platforms like KVM."
What is our primary use case?
It's very useful for making network configurations and setting the network configurations in an easy way. The infrastructure team has all of the components under these controls, that is, the infrastructure and the network itself.
What is most valuable?
It gives more security and micro-segmentation. It helps to set network configurations in an easy way.
What needs improvement?
NSX-T supports more platforms, and VMware NSX only supports some platforms like KVM. I want to see support for Hyper-V and other hypervisors.
Their technical support could be faster as well.

We have one team member per customer for the deployment, and we have 10 customers using this solution.
What other advice do I have?
I would recommend VMware NSX for big projects and would rate it at seven on a scale from one to ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises

Network Practice Lead at a tech services company with 11-50 employees
Good integration with Active Directory and VMware products, but it lacks a network to connect to
Pros and Cons
- "The most valuable features for us at this early stage are the interface and the integration with existing VMware solutions."
- "Everybody needs a network to connect to, and VMware doesn't readily provide one."
What is our primary use case?
We are a professional services company and we have been evaluating VMware NSX for our clients.
What is most valuable?
The most valuable features for us at this early stage are the interface and the integration with existing VMware solutions.
The Active Directory network integration and load balancer are good features.
What needs improvement?
Everybody needs a network to connect to, and VMware doesn't readily provide one. It is reliant on an existing network to connect to, which means that for me, it requires two different teams to manage the SDN.
For how long have I used the solution?
We have been working with VMware NSX for a couple of months.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
It seems like a stable product.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
I have not checked on the scalability, although from what I have read, it seems like there might be some concerns. I will know more once I get the opportunity to test it.
At this point, we have a team of just three people who are using it.
How are customer service and technical support?
We have not had any reason to call technical support at this stage.
Community support seems ok.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We are mainly a Cisco house, but we are trying to use VMware NSX as the next stage of our software-defined networking (SDN) expansion.
How was the initial setup?
I'm not a VMware expert and as a network engineer, I find the setup to be quite complex.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
I am currently in the process of comparing this solution to Cisco ACI.
What other advice do I have?
My advice for anybody who is considering this product is to definitely start with a proof of concept. Be sure to understand your business requirements, networking, and security requirements as well.
I am currently evaluating different scenarios on scalability, integration with other products, and the underlay of the solution. While it may be a good product, I think that VMware should buy a network provider that offers the entire end-to-end networking solution.
I would rate this solution a five out of ten.
