Oracle Cloud Services currently has some problems. With Oracle OCI GoldenGate, for instance, there are aspects that do not work well. I sometimes encounter problems with data alignment due to certain data types. Oracle GoldenGate is the official tool generally preferred because Oracle assures its efficiency. While evaluating tools like Sharplex, I found that Oracle GoldenGate integrates well with on-premise databases. However, if I cannot move data quickly due to changes, GoldenGate can cause issues. Sharplex might stop working if changes in the source database are too frequent for it to handle. Oracle GoldenGate is the preferred tool as it integrates with on-premise databases. OCI GoldenGate is simple to use when necessary and easy to deploy. It is a good tool but not ready for every situation. My experience is that while Oracle products like Exadata are reliable, the Oracle Cloud documentation needs improvement to help users understand how everything works. Those familiar with Oracle generally can operate Oracle Cloud effectively. The support could be better, especially when certain DBA functions are limited. The overall product rating is seven out of ten.
We move operational data to informational repositories to capture real-time data produced operationally. On the informational side, we manipulate, manage, and pass on the data to reporting services, APIs, and other endpoints. We also have strong integration with all our operational services. Currently, we primarily use relational database integrations, which simplifies our processes. We have a specific agreement with Oracle, which offers significant benefits compared to other providers. We are exploring ways to facilitate and accelerate deployment through infrastructure as code, which should enhance scalability. While Oracle might not be the strongest in this area compared to others, overall, our experience with Oracle GoldenGate has been positive. The pricing benefits and the business cases we are developing make our position favorable compared to alternatives. Patch and update management has been a significant challenge for us over the past few years. Additionally, Oracle GoldenGate's monitoring and troubleshooting capabilities need improvement. The service operates on Kubernetes or Docker containers, and we lack visibility into what's happening within the system. Overall, I rate the solution as seven out of ten.
I recommend the product to those who plan to use it. The product could be made better by adding features related to AI and by adding more stuff to make the analytics part better. I rate the overall product a seven and a half out of ten.
