IP Address Management (IPAM) is used to plan, track and manage information associated with a network’s Internet Protocol address space. Using IPAM software, administrators can make sure the repository of assignable IP addresses stays up-to-date.
IPAM solutions help simplify and automate the administration of several tasks related to IP space management, including writing DNS records and configuring DHCP settings.
Other common functionality includes reservation controlling in DHCP plus other data aggregation and reporting capabilities. Interfacing IPAM with DNS, DHCP as well as external components like RIR (Regional Internet Registries) ensures that each component is aware of changes made in the other ones.
1) Managing Thousands of IP-connected Devices 2) Centralized Repository For Accurate Records 3) Easier administration 4) Reduces complexity 5) Ensures integrity
I have used ManageEngine opUtils & phpIPAM, and have shared some of the features and details of the product.
ManageEngine opUtils
OpUtils IP Address Management (IPAM) helps you effectively monitor your IP Address space, including your IPv4 and IPv6 addresses using IP Address tools. IP Address Solution by OpUtils provides centralized IP management of all the networked devices. Thus, it helps to identify whether an IP Address is currently available or not, in an enterprise network thereby aiding you to have complete IP Address management.
Features Overview:
-Active Directory Integration
-Hierarchical Tree View
-IP History and Audit
-Discovering Adding Subnets
-IP Address Reports
phpIPAM
phpIPAM is an open-source web IP address management application (IPAM). It provides light, modern and useful IP address management. It is a PHP-based application with a MySQL database backend, using jQuery libraries, Ajax and HTML5/CSS3 features. It is recommended to install phpIPAM on CentOS or Debian, it does not have a Windows installer.

We are using Infoblox IPAM for our main IPAM solution and I highly recommend this tool. It is reasonably priced and very stable and secure.
One of the features we like most about it is its ability to automatically discover and monitor all of our IP assets across the network and send us reports on their status. It also has a feature where it predicts IP address capacity, which definitely helps us prevent configuration errors and IP address allocation errors.
We receive clear visibility into our entire network operations. This solution allows us to automatically detect and quarantine or assign rogue devices and lower security risks.
We also find that the price of this solution is very reasonable compared to its competitors.
Another IPAM tool that we use and like is Device42. We have built automation to get information from Device42 by using an API call. As a result, it's possible to deploy a new VM in 15 minutes and all the information is pulled from Device42, by our automation, to build that new VM.
It's the same for load balancers. When we want to create a new virtual IP for load balancers, we have it automated with an API call and Device42 provides all the information needed to get the job done. So Device42 helps us to build automation into our infrastructure.
Device42 is a really impressive tool. Their IP discovery seems to be really coordinated, in the sense that we have different types of discoveries we can actually run. That's one unique aspect about them.
