I use Fortinet FortiSwitch - Secure Access ( /products/fortinet-fortiswitch-secure-access-reviews ) hardware for switches, routers, and access points for regular infrastructure networks. I manage firewalls and switches, some with PoE for connected access points, cameras, or phones. I generally don't use expensive backbones as my customers don't require them.

The primary use case for Fortinet FortiSwitch - Secure Access is for network security. Some of the installations are in remote sites, and the fixed infrastructure, like cameras, needs to be secured. Additionally, there are ports for user access where filtering is done by the firewall, not Fortinet.
It allows for centralized monitoring and management of all connected appliances, helping to minimize potential internet disruptions. This solution includes features such as IPS, antivirus, and vulnerability scanning. Fortinet is not just a firewall. It is an advanced next-generation firewall that offers comprehensive management capabilities. FortiGate manages the FortiSwitch, and policies created on the FortiGate can be applied across all connected devices. This setup ensures that the internet and internal network environments are monitored effectively. Additionally, FortiGate handles antivirus, EDR, and other security measures to ensure customer protection. It also manages VPN connections.

FortiSwitch is a great solution. It provides security access and can integrate with FortiGate. We use the devices for health environment for some companies who need to be secured.

Within our company, which operates multiple stores in the area, we recently acquired two firewalls and a large storage facility. To establish our network infrastructure, we require nearly all components, including forty FortiSwitches. Each switch is fully equipped, with the core switches having five hundred ports and the rest featuring forty-eight ports.

Usually, our customers have security devices for the network. We always suggest Fortinet to them, and depending on the number of users, we suggest different versions. If it's a new setup, then we provide FortiAP and FortiSwitch.
We sell a lot of solutions in the educational sector. School boards, universities, colleges, and community colleges are good customers for the Fortinet solution overall and Fortinet switching. I'm usually working with clients who have between 500 to 1,500 users. That's the average commercial enterprise count. About 50 to 60 customers use the product end to end or in some capacity. We've had significant growth in Fortinet business annually. It seems to go up by 10 to 15 clients every year.
When our clients integrate FortiSwitches with FortiGate, they can centrally manage their whole network from FortiGate. That's why it's called Secure Access. The versions of FortiOS that are being used right now are 6.24 and 6.4. These are the two current versions. If we're talking about the models of FortiSwitches, I usually work on 100 to 400 series.

My son owns three healthcare facilities, and two of them are in the same building. That's why I went to VLANs to separate the data to satisfy HIPAA requirements. The other facility is in another town. I'm using them to manage the data and communication through VoIP phones in both locations. They have a server for the whole practice, and so everybody in the building is operating off that server. When they go to the other facility, they use a VPN and connect to the same server.
Our customers use Secure Access to capture log files of many different vendors out there. They're looking at their network, wireless servers, and anything that can capture log files. It seems to be one of the more cost-effective solutions.
We have different use cases in different sectors including in education, banking, health care. You can say it's suitable for all types of businesses like small and medium enterprise. We use this product inside security fabric solutions. We assign switches and then integrate it with FortiGate. We implement this solution for our clients. This has been deployed to the university for student access. We have the controller using FortiGate with the access point being FortiGate. So, we chose FortiSwitch to uniformize our entire equipment and the WiFi for students access. The version depends on the version of FortiOS which is running on the switch.

We use this solution for access-level connectivity for phones and computers. Using it as an access point to connect to the switches directly for their POE.
We primarily use the solution for different reasons. It depends on our customer security requirements and the projects that we are implementing for banks, hospitals, etc.
Our general focus as a company and partner with Fortinet is to act as one of the Security Fabric solution providers. We are trying to deliver the whole solution of the Fortinet Security Fabric to our customers. The Secure Access component is a part of that solution.
Fortinet FortiSwitch Secure Access is a secure, high-performance, and easy-to-manage switch. Fortinet FortiSwitch is the best solution for threat-conscious enterprises of all sizes because it is secure, simple, and scalable. Secure Access, which is tightly integrated into the Fortinet Security Fabric via FortiLink, may be handled directly from the FortiGate interface.
