Around 50% of my clients use Veritas Enterprise Vault. A few clients use the solution for archiving, and the remaining clients use it for journaling. Customers who want to keep the data for their purposes use the tool for journaling.
The use cases for Enterprise Vault are data archiving, log backup, mail archiving and saving data space from the current environment. The main purpose is data archiving: log backups and mail archiving. It can also be used for logs for previous access management and database.
The product is very useful for archiving emails. I didn't use the file archive solution much, but it's a very useful tool for emails because it keeps all the emails on each site and Exchange's usage. If one has a large environment for Exchange, they can keep their emails on Enterprise Vault because it is singularly used for emails.
We archive our emails to store them. We can archive our emails based on rules and we archive them after a couple of months. It offers the option to access the emails even if they’re archived. It releases the space from your mailbox, but you can still access the email. As a tool, it works fine. I only need to touch the tool if the servers are down. It’s stable. The only issue we have is when there isn’t network communication.

I am not an end-user with this product. I'm a technical consultant. I am responsible for the migration, as well as the upgrades of this product for my customers. We use this solution in large enterprise companies, with several mailboxes, and are not able to go through the cloud, due to regulation or other similar reasons. These companies need a reliable archive solution, and I always recommend Enterprise Vault.
We have deployed Enterprise Vault's latest version on our on-premises servers. We use it to migrate the existing data from another version to the newest version.
