Other Huawei mid-end storages, like 5600 and 5500, are very easy to use. Engineers with two to three years of experience with Huawei will find that Huawei OceanStor Dorado is a bit complicated to use compared to other Huawei storages. Unlike other storages, you cannot configure the disk domain and storage pool in Huawei OceanStor Dorado.
The built-in reporting tools need some enhancement. However, R&D is really good because we have one of the issues reported to them. They released the patch within one week.

We often find ourselves resorting to the command line interface, which, although not a significant problem due to our extensive implementations, suggests room for improvement in the GUI. Also, the features for partners are not consistently accessible. One of the key areas that need enhancement pertains to the software procurement process.
The technology and the features need improvement. If you compare IBM storage to Huawei OceanStor Dorado, IBM offers DS8000 storage XIV storage. Huawei also offers several storage models, including their brand OceanStor Dorado. If you compare Huawei storage with IBM storage, IBM is mature and offers more stability of the features and technology. However, the pricing of IBM storage is much higher than the Huawei product. If you're not using it for a critical server, you can use Huawei as the cheaper option. But if you have a critical system, maybe choose something more stable like IBM. Additionally, the stability could be improved.

It would be easier to do snapshots on a regular basis. This feature would be great. So, like, a new feature that would allow you to take snapshots every hour.

The localization problem needs to be improved. We have to speak with Chinese resources, and sometimes there is a bit of a language barrier. There is a need for more local people with the necessary knowledge about the product set to present to ourselves and customers.
The solution requires third-party integrations some of which have agreements and policies that prevent us from using them. If you open an Excel or Word file, for example, and a second person has opened it at the same time, they can't use it because it's already locked by you. Microsoft integration is a problem when the solution is managed by Huawei.
The user interface of Huawei OceanStor Dorado could be more user-friendly. Other solutions, such as EMC, have a better user interface. We have experienced some minor issues with the integration of the solution.
The data compression and deduplication ratio of Huawei OceanStor Dorado is not as good as other solutions, such as EMC and Pure Storage. It is important when looking at capacity effectiveness. The solution should be properly sized because if it is not there could be flexibility issues. The system should be sized properly and once it is delivered to the customer, they should ensure everything was done correctly. When the US and China political issues come into play they have issues in qualifying the US applications with their new storage models. Many issues can arise. For example, customers might want to use Oracle hardware with their Huawei hardware to solve some of their use cases but the companies will not coordinate with each other. The political situation makes Huawei OceanStor Dorado not integrate well. In an upcoming release, it would be a benefit to have better algorithms on data reduction, data compression, and data deduplication.
With Huawei Durado we have some issues regarding the connectivity with the AIX system. It should have easy connectivity with the AIX, however, I've found that with AIX, it has some issues and due to this, we need to remove the exact fiber card sometimes and then plug it in again so that it can connect with the AIX systems. IBM flash is much better than Huawei, with respect to the response time and performance. One thing that is really a little annoying is the graphical interface regarding the performance and iOS. That is a little complicated. The GUI could be better with respect to performance. With in-place upgrades, the data should really be right on the desktop. If you want to move to the next version of the box, for example, if I have a Durado 3000 and want to move towards a 6000 version, it should have an in-place upgrade, rather than a complete migration requirement.

This solution can improve by providing easier migrations and better Metro features. In an upcoming release, Huawei could improve by adding migration services to allow customers to migrate from other solutions, such as HPE or Dell. The logistics can be improved because sometimes we have to wait a long time for the product to be delivered, despite there being stores available in Europe. Some of our customers are discouraged due to this long wait time. The marketing for this product needs to be improved because it does not have enough exposure. This solution does not support VMware VVols 2.0. However, I do not feel that this is necessary.

We cannot complain because everything is perfect. The service is perfect. Reliability is perfect. We are very impressed with the solution we implemented.
The speeds of the disks themselves need to be faster. The disks are not flash. When we opened our hard drive from the inclusion, I saw a converter, and it's not entirely flash. It would be helpful in the future if they could create another solution that can manage both Huawei and non-Huawei boxes.
